    Life Long Resident, North Tonawanda , Dies
    NORTH TONAWANDA. Nov. 21 - A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, Mrs. Apolonla Thlele, 67, of 182 Payne avenue, died Saturday at DeGraff Memorial hospital. Services were held at 2:30 pm. today. from the Hamp Funeral home, 37 Adam street, the Rev. Theophilus Berner officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memorial park. Mrs. Thiele was a member of St. Martin's Luther church. Survivors include her husband, Robert W.; a daughter, Mrs. Benjamin Sattelberg. North Tonawanda: a son, Ervin Thiele, North Tonawanda; three sisters, Mrs. Adolph Thlele. Mrs. Louis Sattelberg and Mrs. Walter Denef; three brothers, John Billings, Town of Pendleton, and Carl and George Billings, of the Tonawandas.

    North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 2/5/1906

    Mrs. Robert Thiele of Paynes avenue
    narrowly escaped drowning in the Tonawanda
    Creek at Martinsville shortly
    before noon today. She was rescued
    with great difficulty by Casper Dauman
    of Martinsville.
    Mrs. Thiele went to Martinsville by
    trolley this morning and attempted to
    walk across the creek to the home of
    her father, Charles Belling, on the opposite
    side of the stream. She had
    reached the middle of the creek when
    the ice broke and she was precipitated
    into the water.
    Several times Mrs. Thiele attempted
    to climb upon the ice, 'but each
    time the ice broke and she fell back into
    the water. Finally almost overcome
    from her efforts and immersions the
    woman cried for help. Dauman was the
    first to arrive on the scene. He approached
    within a few yards of the woman
    and then extended a pole to her,
    Mrs. Thiele clung to the pole and was
    pulled onto solid ice. She was assisted
    to the home of Mrs. J. Grosskupf of
    Martinsville and provided with dry clothing
    and stimulants.
    Mrs. Thiele is a bride of a few days.
    Her husband is employed at the Knapp-
    Cramer Hardware Company's store in
    Webster street.

    wedding party adjourned to the home

    100. After September 20, the happy
    voting couple will be at home at 182
    Paynes avenue in this city. Among

    North Tonawanda, March 31 - Charles Belling, 88, died Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adolph Thiele, of the Shawnee Road, Town of Wheatfield. Mr. Belling was born in Sweeney street when this part of the city was part of the Town of Wheatfield and the street was known as the Creek road. He retired as a farmer 20 years ago. He was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran church at Martinsville. He is survived by three sons, John of the Town of Pendleton, George of the Town of Wheatfield, and Charles Belling, Jr. of Tonawanda; four daughters, Mrs. Robert Thiele and Mrs. Louis Sattelberg, of this city; Mrs. Adolph Thiele of the Town of Wheatfield, and Mrs. Walter Denel of the Town of Amherst; 21 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Mrs. Anna Ewald, of this city Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at the Hamp Funeral home, 37 adam street, with the Rev. Theophilus Berner officiating. Interment will be in St. Martin's cemetery.
