    The funeral of George S. Barber,
    1108 Kossuth, who died in a local
    hospital Saturday, Sept 21, 1940,
    will be held at 11 tomorrow morning
    from the home.
    Mr. Barber was born in Utlca,
    May 7, 1888, a son of Minnie-Rockwell
    Barb errand the late George L.
    Barber. He attended^local public
    schools. In recent years he was
    employed at the Utica incinerator
    p l a n t.
    His marriage to Carrie Elefante
    took place Apr. 13, 1921, and she
    survives him. He was a member
    of Calvary Episcopal Church.
    Mr. Barber served in the Navy
    on the U3S Colorado, also in the
    301st Engineers during the World
    War and participated in the St
    Mihiel drive.
    Besides his mother and wife, he
    leaves four daughters: Flora Mae,
    Josephine Marie and Lillian, Utica,
    and Ida. Schenectady; two sons,
    Charles Louis and George F.; one
    sister, Mrs. I. S. Benjamin; two
    brothers, Harold and Walter, all of
    Utica, and several nieces and
    nephews.

    the International Alliance
    Club, died today In St Luke's
    Memorial-Hospital after-a
    brief illness.
    Bom in Utica, the daughter

    of Louis - and Mary Felicia
    Elefante, she was educated in
    local schools. She was married
    to George S. Barber in
    1920 in Sarah, Pa. Mr. Barber
    died in Utica in 1938.
    Mrs. Barber
    was a member
    of St. Agnes
    Church, the
    Avanti Savoia
    Society, and
    president
    of the Alliance
    Club for the

    past 15 years.
    She leaves
    a son, Charles
    L. Barber; two
    daughters, Mrs. Salvatore
    (Flora-Mae) Brindisi and Mrs.

    Warren (Josephine) Kane; two
    brothers, Michael and Fred
    Elefante, and a sister, Mrs.
    Anthony (Josephine) Nicotera,
    all of Utica; a stepson, George
    Barber, and two stepdaughters,
    Mrs. Lillian Bonina and
    Mrs. Ida Fassett, all of Utica
    The funeral will be at 9
    Tuesday from the Assaro
    funeral Home, 2118 Beech-
    grove Pl, and at 9:30 from St.
    Agnes Church, where a sol-
    emn requiem high Mass will
    be offered. Burial will be in
    Calvary Cemetery.
    Calling hours at the funeral

    home are from 7 to 9 tonight
    and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
    tomorrow and Monday.
    The Avanti Savoia Society
    will visit the funeral home at
    7:30 Monday. The Alliance
    Club will visit the funeral
    home at 8 Monday.

    George L Barber, 69, former
    well known Utica wrestler and
    drum major, died Saturday, Feb.
    8, 1936, at the home of his son,
    George S. Barber, 1108 Kossuth
    Avenue.
    He was born in this city In
    February, 1867, and attended the
    public schools. He learned the
    trade of a painter with his father,
    who had a shop first on Charlotte
    Street and later in the
    Eighth Ward. Mr. Barber followed
    the painter's trade up' to
    1910.
    For several years he had had

    the privilege for the sale of certain
    articles at the Utica baseball
    grounds. , Mr. Barber waa a charter
    member of the Painters and
    Decorators' Union, which was
    founded in 1887 a n d h e served It
    as treasurer for some .years.
    He was also well known in military

    circles. He was for 20 years
    a member of the Nntlonal Guard,
    serving first in the 24th and later
    in the 28th Separate Company.
    He w a s armorer for this company
    when it had its headquarters on
    Bleecker Street and later in the
    new armory on Steuben Park. He
    succeeded Alonso F. Miller as drum
    major of the old Utica Band and
    he also served in the drum major
    corps of the 28th Separate Company.
    Mr. Barber waa a man of

    strong physique and commanding
    presence

    and had more than a
    Ideal reputation as an athlete.
    His specialty was wrestling and
    in this he figured In professional
    circles for 15 or 20 years. He
    had wrestled all over this and
    other states and a m o n g . t h e men
    whom" he had met and defeated
    were Marvin Thompson, Professor
    Dwyer, George Dyke. Harry
    Parker, Douglas E. Ross, James
    Parr, the English champion, and
    Gotch when he wrestled in the
    Utica armory.
    Mr. Barber attended - Bethany
    Presbyterian Church.
    Surviving are his widow; three
    sons, George S.. Harold W. and
    Walter E.. Barber; a daughter,
    Mrs. L. M. Benjamin; one sister.
    Mrs. James Ashcroft, and two
    brothers, Charles and-Walter E
    Barber, all of Utica, and several
    nieces and nephews
