    20. 1987. at St Luke* Memorial
    Hospital. ' after a
    long illness, at.the
    age of 68.
    He was born in
    Utica on. March 4,
    1919. a son of the
    l a t e Luigi and
    Christina Ruggiero
    Spina. Sam was
    raised and educated
    in the Utica
    area, graduating
    from T.R. Proctor
    High School in
    1938. A WW II Army Veteran, Mr.
    Spina Was awarded the American
    Theatre Medal. The WW 11. Victory
    Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.
    On March 29. 1943, Sam was wed to
    the former Josephine Abiusi in Camp
    Roberts, Ca. For many yearsfhe had
    been a self-employed building and.
    roofing contractor, operating under
    the name of Spina & Abiusi Contractors.
    Mr. Spina later held the position
    of Building Estimator and Consultant
    with various area firms until his
    retirement in 1981 from the Buck
    instruction Co. A communicant of
    rStNAnthony of Padua Church, he was
    also>a member of the Benevolent and
    Protective Order of Elks and a former
    member of the Order of United Commerical
    Travelers.
    Surviving are his wife, Josephine; a
    son, Mr. Barry Spina, of Utica; a
    granddaughter. Miss AnnMarie
    Spina, of Utica; three sisters, Mrs,
    Robert (Victoria) Egleston, of Endwell.
    N.Y.. Mrs. Lee Greco, of Utica,
    Mrs. John (Eva) Russb. of Ca.; three
    aunts, Mrs. Jenny Foresti. Mrs. Mary
    Pacciarelli. both of Utica. Mrs. Sarah
    Esposito, and an uncle, Mr. Ralph
    Rogers, both of Ca. Also surviving are
    several nieces, nephews and cousins;
    a brother-in-law and his wife, James
    and Josephine Abiusi. of Utica; two
    sisters-in-law, Mrs. Grace Marchitelli.

    Fla.;" special family"friends. Dawn.
    Joseph and Jessica Saunders. He was
    preceded in death by a brother. John
    Spina, in July of 1986.
    The f- -eral will be held on Monday
    morning at 10:00 from The Eannace
    Funeral Home. Inc.. 932 South St..
    corner of Hammond Ave., and at 10:45
    at St. Anthony of Padua Church,
    where a Mass of Christian Burial will
    be offered. Interment will take place
    in Calvary" Cemetery at the conve-

    He was bom in the Town of ScandaJe
    in the Province of Calabria. Italy
    November 1.1891, a son of the late
    John and Clara
    (Todere) Spina.
    Mr. Spina came to
    the U.S. and to Utica
    as a young man
    iod on-May 23^1914
    was married to
    Christina Ruggi-
    ero who died in
    1947. He was
    employed as a
    stone mason and
    by the Sitroux
    Paper co. He was
    most recently
    employed by the G.A.F.B. for 20
    years until his retirement in 1960. Mr
    Spina was a member of St. Anthony
    of Padua Church and the Scandalese
    Society at the Sons of Italy Lodge.
    Mr. Spina is survived by three
    daughters. Mrs Robert (Victoria)
    Egleston of End well. NY . Mrs Lee
    Greco of Utica and Mrs. John (Eva)
    Russo of Huntington, Calif.; two sons.

    Spina, both of Utica; four sisters in
    Italy. Josephine. Francesca. Teresa
    and Catherine Spina. Also surviving
    are 11 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.
    The funeral will be held Saturday
    at 8:30 from The Eannace Funenl
    Home. Inc.. 932 South St and 9
    o'clock at St. Anthony of Padua
    Church where a Mass of Christian
    Burial will be offered Interment will
    ^ake place in Calvary' Cemetery. Visitatlon

    in her home.
    She was born in Naples,
    Italy, and came to Utica in
    1905. Two years later she
    was married to Mr. Abiusi in
    Utica. He died in 1953. Mrs.
    Abiusi was a member of St.
    Mary of Mt. Carmel Church
    and its Adolorato Society-
    She leaves three daughters,
    Mrs. Rocco (Dorothy) Basi,
    Mrs. Nicholas (Grace) Mar-
    chitelli and Mrs. Samuel
    (Josephine) Spina; two sons,
    James and Samuel Abiusi and
    a brother, Frank Vivenzo, all
    of Utica.
    The funeral will be at 8:30
    Wednesday from the Eannace
    Funeral Home, and at 9 from
    St. Mary of Mt Carmel
    Church, with a requiem Mass.
    Burial will be in Calvary
    Cemetery.
