MIDDLETOWN, RI — Dorothy D. St. Denny, age 94, formerly of Lewiston, died Tuesday (June 11, 2013) in the Grand Islander Center in Middletown, RI.
Dorothy was born July 4, 1918 in Corning, NY, the daughter of the late Oran A. and Martha B. (Barenthaler) Dann. She was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and on August 26, 1938, she married Maurice K. "Moe" St. Denny. They lived in Niagara Falls for many years where they owned and operated Cataract Glass Co., Inc. After selling their business, Dorothy became Office Manager at the Niagara Frontier Country Club and served in that position for over 15 years. Moe predeceased her on August 7, 2003.
Dorothy enjoyed golfing, bowling, the casino, reading and knitting. She was a lifetime member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club and had bowled with the Tuesday & Wednesday Night Ladies at Frontier and Beverly Lanes. Dorothy was also a former member of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston and a 50-year member of the LaSalle Yacht Club in Niagara Falls.
She is survived by her daughters, Judith Mangan and Susan St. Denny, both of Sarasota, FL, and Patricia D. King of Jamestown, RI; her grandchildren, Donald King III, Pamela King, William, Maurice and Thomas Mangan, Margaret Matthews, Catherine Oakes, Jennifer and Christian Hanns; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two grandsons, Lawrence Mangan and Jeffrey Hanns; and a brother, James O. Dann.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston, on Sunday from 3-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 17, at 10:00 AM in St. Peter's RC Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Michael Zuffolettto officiating.(Please assemble at church.) Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston. The marriage of Miss Dorothy
Ann Dann, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs,. Oran Dann, of Niagara ave-
nue, and Mr. Maurice St. Denny,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy St. Denny,
of Lewiston road, was solemnized
Saturday morning at 8 o'cloclk at
the Sacred Heart church, with the
Rev. John J. Sheeny officiating.
Pink gladiioli decorated the church
for the wedding ceremony.
the bride, who was given in mar-
riage by her father, wore white
moire fashioned with puffed sleeves,
the skirt having the new bustle ef-
fect. Her cap was made of tiny
white flowers and her bouquet was
of white roses and baby's breath.
Miss Doris St. Denny, sister of the
bridegroom, wore a windsor blue
gown made on the same lines as
that of the bride and her bouquet
was of pale yellow roses.
Mr. James Dann, brother of the
bride, was the best man of the
ushers were Mr. Jack REagan, of
Corning, N.Yl., cousin of the bride,
and Mr. Paul Schaffer, of this city.
A corsage of yellow roses was
worn with black silk by the mother
of the bride and teal blue was the
shade of the gown worn by the
mother of the bridegroom. She also
wore a corsage of yellow roses.
A wedding dinner was served at
the Imperial hotel for the members
of the immediate families and from
1 to 4 o'clock a reception was held
at the home of the bride's parents.
Mr. and Mrs. St. Denny left later
for a trip, the bride traveling in an
ensemble of black and white.
Among the out-of-town guests at-
tending the wedding and reception
were Mrs. J.W. Readan and daugh-
ters, Ruth and Helen, and a son,
Jack, of Corning, N.Y.; Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Barenthaler, of Buf-
falo; Mr. and Mrs. George Hayslip
and Mrs. Winifred Dawn and
daughter, Patricia, of Tonawanda.
