    NORTH TONAWANDA — Jane Catherine (nee Mancewicz) Grose, age 92, of North Tonawanda, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. Born in Buffalo on April 22, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Teresa (nee Gelman) Mancewicz. Jane was a Foster Grandmother in the North Tonawanda Head Start Program for more than 20 years. She enjoyed reading, crosswords, word search puzzles, her rose garden and peonies.

    She was the beloved mother of Kenneth (Noralee Taylor) Grose, Carole J. Blank, Robert (Jacqueline) Grose and Elaine (Marlene Matarazzo) Grose; beloved grandmother of Kevin, Keith, Kenneth (Rhonda), Joseph (Brenda), Christian (Sarah) and Aaron (Laura); great-grandmother of James, Marea, Randy (Jessica) and Amy (Matt); great-great-grandmother of Logan and Peyton. Jane is also survived by her brother, Victor (Claire) Manz and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

    honor of Miss Jane Manz, whose
    marriage to Mr. Norman Grose

    Games were played, and refreshments
    were served to twenty
    at small tables. The honor-guest's
    place was marked by a miniature
    bride, and she received many
    beautiful gifts. The house decorations
    were vari -colored autumn
    flowers. Among those present were
    the Misses Jean and Olive Lewkus
    and the Misses Blanche and
    Jean Dwornik of Buffalo.
    Other parties which have been
    given in honor of the bride-elect
    include a variety shower with
    Mrs. Otto Gross of Falconer street
    as hostess, and a variety shower
    given by her mother, Mrs. Theresa
    Manz of 120 Amherst street, Buffalo.

    Albert G. Gross
    Albert G. Gross, 85, of 8817 Pear avenue, LaSalle, died Thursday night in Memorail Hospital, Niagara Falls. He was born in Germany, and came to live in LaSalle many years ago. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Louis Roloff of Tonawanda, Mrs. George Strasburg and Miss Emma Grose of LaSalle; one son, Otto F. Grose of North Tonawanda; one sister, Mrs. Fred Krueger of Niagara, North Dakota; one brother, August Grose of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the home, with services at 2:30 p.m. in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, LaSalle. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Niagara Falls.

    Christian Wittkowski, 88, died
    yesterday afternoon at the home
    of His son. Armin T., of 288 Sommer
    street North Tonawanda.
    He was born in Germany and
    lived in North Tonawanda for the
    past 58 years. He is survived by
    a brother John of Neudeck, Germany,
    two other sons, Herman F.
    of North Tonawanda and Christian
    A., of Miami, Fla., and two
    daughters, Mrs. William Krause
    and Mrs. Otto Grose of North
    Tonawanda. Also surviving him
    are 10 grandchildren and four
    great grandchildren.
    The funeral will be held Saturday
    afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The
    Rev. Theodore Mayer will officiate.
    Burial will be in Salem
    Cemetery.

    Mrs. K. A. Schulz called to extend
    their congratulations and Reverend
    S c h u l z gave an a p p r o p r i a t e speech.
    Mr and Mrs. W i t t k o w s k i were mar
    ried at Neudorfeheu. West Prussia,
    Germany in 1864 and came to America
    and then settling in North Tonawanda
    where they have resided

    f r i e n d s .

    of 286 Bryant street, celebrated
    their 57th wedding anniversary
    yesterday. They were presented
    with a beautiful bouquet of
    chrysanthemums by their children.

    with the exception of a son
    living in Miami, Fla., were all
    present with their families for
    the evening.
    Mr. and Mrs. Wittkowski were
    married in Germany on Nov. 8,
    1874, came to America in 1881,
    and have been residents of North
    Tonawanda for 50 years.
    Mr. and Mrs. Wittkowski have
    four children residing in North
    Tonawanda, Mrs. William Krause,
    Mrs. Otto Grose, and Messrs. Ar-
    m l n a n d Herman Wittkowski, also
    a son, Christian, Jr., of Miami.
