    LOCKPORT — Carol A. (Berube) Strassburg, formerly of North Tonawanda, of Lockport, died peacefully on Monday, February 7, 2011 at home, surrounded by her family, while receiving care from Niagara Hospice.

    Carol was born in North Tonawanda, NY on September 4, 1949, a daughter of the late Camille and Violet (Stoeckel) Berube. She attended St. Mark Lutheran School, North Tonawanda and was a longtime member of its church. Carol graduated from North Tonawanda High School Class of 1967 and the Continental School of Beauty. While her husband, Terry was in the US Marine Corps, they lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Shawnee, KS, where she practiced cosmetology before returning home to North Tonawanda in 1986.

    Having a keen eye for decorating, Carol began to share her love of country décor and opened “Lets Go Country” in 1986 in her former Oliver Street home. She operated the store until 1998.

    A savvy business woman, Carol was instrumental in the growth of the family business, JT Enterprises to an international medical company, operating from their Lockport home.

    She enjoyed traveling, gardening and cross stitch. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, Collin, Jessica and Morgan Strassburg and Madison and David Bunn.

    Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Terry A. Strassburg; her son, David Strassburg of Lockport, NY; her daughter, Amanda Bunn and her husband, David of Lockport; two sisters, Barbara Jean LeFevers (Garry) of Lee Summit, MO, Linda Dolpp (Mike) of North Tonawanda; her brother, Mark Berube (Karrie) of North Tonawanda; aunt and uncle, William and Esther Stoeckel of North Tonawanda; her lifetime friend, Peggy Schaab and dear friend, Dotty McIntosh; five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    The family will be present Friday from 2-5, 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where funeral services will be held Saturday 11 AM. The interment will be in St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, NY, or to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, North Ridge, 4169 Church Road, Lockport, NY 14094.

    August F. "Sonny" Strassburg Jr., 81, who worked as a millwright with DuPont Co. in Niagara Falls for more than 20 years, died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, following a three-month illness. He was born in North Tonawanda and lived on Stenzel Avenue. He attended the former Gratwick Grammar School there as well. Strassburg worked for several years in production at the former Buffalo Bolt County, North Tonawanda, and as an inspector at the former Bell Aircraft here. A veteran of World War II, he entered the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942 and served as a machinist with the 893rd Air Engineer Squadron in the European Theater until honorably discharged in 1946. Strassburg then worked as a millwright at DuPont, retiring in the mid-1970s. He was a lifelong member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, and was an airplane and air show enthusiast. His wife, the former Violet R. Mellenthine, died in 1978. Survivors include two sons, Terry A. of North Tonawanda and Gary D. of Niagara Falls; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday in Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls. Burial will be in St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery, North Tonawanda.

    Strassburg-Mellenthine Rites Took Place in Church at Sioux Falls, S.D.
    Miss Violet Mellenthine, daughter of Mrs. Eleonora Mellenthine and Private August F. Strassburg, son of Mrs. Emma Strassburg were married Wednesday afternoon, November 3, at 1:30 o’clock in the Zion Lutheran church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. G. A. Troenel of Sioux Falls.
    The bride was lovely in her gown of white satin, and net skirt. A sweetheart neckline and three-quarter length sleeves completed the dress. Her veil of illusion was held by a juliet cap, and she carried a bouquet of white asters and roses. The groom is serving with the armed forces at the air base at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
    Her only attendant, Mrs. Hugo Belling, the former Marjorie Butzbach, was matron of honor. She wore a dusty blue taffeta dress with a spray of blue flowers in her hair, and carried a bouquet of yellow asters and roses.
    P. F. C. Wilbert Ostwald of Ward road, Niagara Falls, N. Y., who is stationed at Sioux Falls was best man.
    The reception was held at Carpenter Hotel.
    Mrs. August Strassburg and Mrs. Hugo Belling will return shortly and the bride will make her home with her parent for the duration.

    of corn flowers, yellow roses and

    sweetpeas.
    Following the ceremony, a reception
    for about 60 guests was
    given at the home of the bride's
    aunt, Mrs. Pauline Innis. Baskets
    of flowers decorated the rooms.
    A buffet luncheon was served
    from a long table featuring all
    white decorations.
    Cpl. and Mrs. Stoeckel left for
    a few days visit with the groom's
    parents in Dracut, Mass Upon
    the expiration of his furlough, Cpl.
    Berube will report back to Camp
    Gordon, Ga. Mrs. Berube will
    make her home with her aunt,
    Mrs. Innis, in Ward road.

    August S. Strassburg, 63 years old, died yesterday afternoon at his home, 63 Stenzel street. He suffered a stroke three months ago and had been in failing health since. Born in the town of Wheatfield, he had resided in North Tonawanda for the past 50 years. For 40 years he conducted a grocery and hardware business in the Gratwick section of North Tonawanda. He retired from business a year ago.
    Surviving are a wife, Emma; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Ostwald and Miss Dorothy Strassburg; four sons, Edward, George, Albert and August Strassburg, Jr.; six grandchildren; two brothers, William S. Strassburg of Santa Monica, Calif., and Frederick Strassburg, and a sister, Mrs. Edward Stenzel. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home and half an hour later from the St. Mark's church on Washington street, Rev. Paul Fretthold officiating. Interment will be at Elmlawn.

    Mrs. Emma Strassburg, 81, died this morning in her home, 63 Stenzil St., after a long illness. Mrs. Strassburg was a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas. She was the mother of Edward, Albert and August Strassburg, Mrs. Arthur Ostwald and Mrs. Edward Berndt, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. The former Eleonora Stenzel was born in Wheatfield. She was employed for 25 years in the sewing department at Du Pont, retiring in 1966. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid Society, the Lutheran Missionary League, the DeGraff Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Wheatfield Senior Citizens and the Du Pont 25-Year Club. Her husband, Helmuth, died in 1936. Survivors include two sisters, Mathilda Stoelting of Bergholz and Dorothy Bross of North Tonawanda; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls Boulevard at Ward Road.
