AUGUST RICKERT, HOTELMAN, DEAD
August Rickert, one of the best known hotelman in this section of the state died at the family home, No. 426 Elmwood Ave, shortly after 10 o'clock last night of heart failure. Mr. Rickert had been ill of rheumatism since Friday, but it was thought that he was on the road to recovery. He was 59 years old. Mr Rickert was born in the town of Stettin, Germany on August 18th, 1850. he came to the country in 1871. With his parents he settled in Wisconsin. He came to Niagara Falls in 1879 and for eleven years he was employed by the Niagara Falls Brewing Company. August Rickert became the proprietor of the Casino Café in 1890, leaving the casino in 1895, he took over the United States Hotel, now the Empire Hotel at Falls and Second Streets. He remained there until 1901 when he opened up the Richmond Hotel at No. 12 West Falls Street. he was actively in charge of the business until his fatal illness. He is survived by a large family. besides his wife, he leaves five sons, George J. of this city, William H. of Logansport, Ind., Charles E., Frank A., and Fred C. of this city., one daughter, Mrs. C. George Seager of San Francisco, three brothers, William Rickert of Martinsville, Fred and Charles Rickert of this city, four sisters, Mrs. Sentiff and Mrs. Ready of Rochester, Mrs. Jacob Luick of LaSalle, and Mrs. George Enos of this city also survive. Mr. Rickert was a prominent man in fraternal circles. He was a Past Noble Grand of Bellevue Lodge No. 316. I.O.O.F.. and he was a member also of Niagara Falls Lodge No. 346 B.P.O.E. He was affiliated with the Liquor Dealers association. The funeral will be hold tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the family home on Elmwood Avenue. The Reverend Albert S. Bacon, pastor of The First Presbyterian Church will officiate. The burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery.
