    LEWISTON — Russell E. Urtel, age 89, of the Town of Cambria, entered into rest on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. Born May 21, 1922 in Wilson, Russ was the son of the late Edward L. and Mabel I. (Rohring) Urtel.

    He married Dorothy (Flagler) Urtel June 20, 1942, at Exley United Methodist Church of Wilson. Dorothy died December 1, 1993. A WWII Veteran, Russ served from 1943 until 1945. He was in the European Theatre of operation in the 113th Mechanized Cavalry and as a truck driver on the Red Ball Express for the 3888 Quartermaster Truck Company. While in the service he traveled to 11 different countries. He had worked at General Motors Chevrolet Plant in Tonawanda as a Quality Analyst and Inspection Supervisor, retiring in 1987 after 47 years. Russ enjoyed spending time with his family and working on his farm. Russ was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of North Ridge, past member of the Wilson VFW and past member of the American Legion. He also was a member of the Chevrolet Retiree Club. Russ enjoyed going to the Newfane Golden Agers and deer hunting. He had lived in Cambria the past 67 years; previously of Wilson.

    Russ is survived by his children, William R. (Shirley) Urtel of Lockport, Rosemary (Michael) Bohlman of Ripley, Thomas E. Urtel of Florida, Barbara (Lance) Cronshaw of Newfane, Sharon (Sean) Healy of Wilson and the late Robert J. Urtel. Brother of Harold “Dolly” Urtel of Middleport, Helen Bye of Newfane, Elton “Bob” (Phyllis) Urtel of North Tonawanda, Hazel (Robert) Walker of Olcott and the late Delilah Grzybowski and Lawrence Urtel. Eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and dear friend, Beatrice Zastrow survive him. A grandchild, Amy Raynor, predeceased Russell.

    Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane, NY on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 4169 Church Road, Lockport, NY, at 11 AM. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Cambria, NY. Memorials appreciated to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 4169 Church Road, Lockport, NY 14094.

    WILSON-A lovely wedding was
    solemnized Saturday afternoon at 3
    o'clock in the Methodist church,
    Wilson, when Miss Dorothy M.
    Flagler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs
    Elwyn Flagler, became the bride of'
    Mr. Russel Urtel, son of Mr. and
    Mrs. Edward Urtel. of Wilson.
    The double ring ceremony was
    performed before a bank of white
    gladioli and carnations by the Rev
    John F. Leffler, former pastor of
    that church. The wedding music was
    played by J. Earl McCormick.
    The bride, who was given in mar-
    riage by her father, wore a charm-
    ing gown of white sugar mist and
    a pearl necklace, gift of the groom.
    Her fingertip veil of fine net was
    edged with lace and gathered to a
    tiara of orange blossoms. She car-
    ried an arm bouquet of white roses
    tied with white satin and tulle rib-
    bons.
    Miss Helen Flagler, sister of the
    bride, was maid of honor, wearing
    blue sugar mist and carrying an
    arm bouquet of pink roses and white
    sweet peas tied with pink satin.
    Miss Janeta Rohring, cousin of
    the groom, was bridesmaid, wearing
    pink sugar mist and carrying an
    arm bouquet of yellow roses and pink
    sweet peas tied with yellow satin.
    The hroom's attendant was Nor-
    man Witkop as best man. The ush-
    ers were Norman Heimann, cousin
    of the groom, and Pfc. Harold E.
    Urtel, brother of the groom.
    Mrs. Flagler wore an attractive
    gown of dustry rose with white ac-
    cessories and a shoulder corsage of
    roses and sweet peas. Mrs. Urtel
    wore aquamarine with white acces-
    sories and a shoulder corsage of
    roses and sweet peas.
    Following the ceremony a recep-
    tion was held in the church parlors
    to about 65 relatives and friends.
    The couple left on an extended wed-
    ding tirp.

    WILSON, Nov. 9-Former chair-
    man of the Town Board of Assessors,
    William C. Rohring, 82. of
    Lake Ave., died yesterday (Nov. 8,
    1955) in Ransomville General Hospital
    where he had been a patient
    for several weeks.
    Born in Germany Dec. 5, 1872,
    Mr. Rohring came to the United
    States with his parents in 1885. The
    family took up residence in Brayley
    Rd. His parents were Charles and
    Wilhelmina Rohring.
    Mr. Rohring married Reka Kraus
    of this village in 1893. She died
    in 1931. He was married to Cecilia
    Kiegler, Buffalo, in 1933.
    Survivors include his wife; five
    sons, Elwood, Glenn,-.Clarence,
    Wesley and Levell Rohring; a'
    daughter, Mrs. Mabel Urtel, all of,
    the Town of Wilson; two stepsons
    August Kiegler, Buffalo, and Paul
    Kiegler, Hopewell. Va.; 20 grandchildren
    and 28 great grandchildren.
    He was predeceased by a son, Wilbur-
    Rohring. All his children were
    born during his first marriage.
    Mr. Rohring operated a farm in
    Town Line Rd. until 1926 when
    he retired from farming. He served
    as tax collector for two years, as
    superintendant of highways for 10
    years and as a member of the Board
    of Assessors for 20 years, 18 of
    which as chairman.
    Funeral services will be conducted
    at 2 p.m. Friday at thc residence,
    and at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran
    Church. North Ridge, at
    2:30. Burial will be in the Lutheran
    Cemetery. North Ridge. The Rev.
    Carl W. Oldach will officiate.
