    Charles Louis Roepke, 86, of Albany entered into rest Tuesday at Gateway Gardens in
    Eugene. He was born in Strafford, Mo., the son of Agustive F. and Hedwig A.
    (Hunholtz) Roepke.He was raised in Missouri and married Edith Cooksey in
    Springfield, Mo., on June 25, 1941. During World War II, the Roepkes moved with their
    toddler son to San Diego, Calif., where their two girls were born. In 1950 the family
    moved to the Knox Butte area and bought their home of over 50 years.Charles
    pastored the Wren Community Church for a while in the 1950s. He worked for 30-plus
    years for Willamette Industries, retiring in 1981. He very much enjoyed working in his
    gardens and raising his cows. He will be remembered as a godly man who shared his
    faith everywhere he went.He is survived by son Charles M. Roepke of Albany;
    daughters Nancy Shields of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ann Witkin of Eugene; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four step-great-greatgrandchildren;
    brother Ray Roepke of Springfield, Mo.; and sisters Dorothy Barnett of
    Joplin, Mo., and Bonnell Coble of Springfield, Mo.Charles was preceded in death by
    his wife of 63 years, Edith Roepke; brothers Edwin, Frederick, Wilbur and Robert
    Roepke; and sisters Martha Hoard, Mildred, and Elsie Pope.

    Edith Roepke The funeral was held June 9 at Calvary Community Church in
    Albany for Edith Mae Roepke of Eugene, who died June 4 of age-related causes. She
    was 82. Roepke was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Springfield, Mo., to John and Gertrude
    Root Cooksey. She married Charles Roepke in Springfield, Mo., on June 25, 1941.
    She lived in San Diego before moving to Oregon and she lived in Albany for 53
    years before moving to Eugene. She graduated from Springfield High School in
    Missouri. She worked at Britton's Store in Lebanon. She was also employed with
    Payless, JC Penney and Mayfair Market. Her interests included cooking and she
    won first prize at the Linn County Fair for her lemon meringue pie. She was a member
    of Calvary Community Church, where she enjoyed working with youth and singing in
    the choir. She also enjoyed sewing, bowling and making peanut butter fudge. She
    especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband; a
    son, Charles of Albany; two daughters, Nancy Shields of Colorado Springs, Colo., and
    Ann Witkin of Eugene; a brother, Jim Cooksey of Lancaster, Calif.; five sisters, Louse
    Shepard of Topeka, Kan., Leona Beeves of San Diego, Betty Williams of Spring, Texas,
    and Franny Orsborn and Hazel Truax, both of Albany; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-
    grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Burial was at Independent
    Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lebanon. AAsum Funeral Home in Albany is in
    charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the youth
    program at Calvary Community Church or to the Alzheimer's Association.
