    LOCKPORT —
    Loretta Atwater passed away on December 31, 2012 at Good Shepherd Services in Seymour, WI. She was born on April 27, 1922 in Lyndonville, NY, the daughter of the late Fred and Vinona Voelker. She married the late Elwood Atwater April 25, 1942. He passed away on June 12, 2007.
    Loretta is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Tarajos of Lockport, NY; her son, Jeffrey (Karen) Atwater of Appleton, WI; four grandchildren, Lisa (Ron) Bolt of East Amherst, NY, Deniale (Todd) Steffen of Merrill, WI, Ryan (Lisa) Atwater of Green Bay, WI and Tracy (John) Larson of Appleton, WI; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Marcia (Paul) Kenyon of Lyndonville, NY. She was predeceased by her sister, Bernice (William) Balschmiter; and her brothers, Leland and Raymond Voelker.
    Loretta and Elwood lived in Somerset, NY, for many years. Loretta retired from Harrison Radiator, General Motors, May 1977. After retiring, she and Elwood moved to St. Petersburg, FL, where they lived until 2000. They then moved to Appleton, WI. Loretta and Elwood enjoyed traveling and went on 22 cruises and drove cross-country many times.
    Friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1708 Pallister Ave., Barker, NY on Friday from 7-9 PM, where funeral services will be held on SATURDAY at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Hartland Cemetery.     Miss Loretta Voelker, whose marriage
    to Elwood Atwater takes place
    this Month, was feted at a red,
    black and white kitchen shower given
    by Mrs. Stanley Atwater at the
    latter's home, Carmen road. The 12
    guests were members of the class of
    1939 of Barker Central school with
    which Miss Voelker was graduated.
    Oreen and white decorations including
    candles were used on the
    lunch table. A variety of pretty
    and useful gifts were presented to
    the honor guest who was recently
    given. another shower by a group
    of Buffalo friends.

    - Spring flowers,
    ferns and palms formed the
    background of a beautiful spring
    wedding today at 12:30 o'clock
    when Miss Loretta May Voelker.
    daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
    Voelker. of Lyndonville, became the
    bride of Mr. Elwood Martin Atwater,
    son of Mr. and Mrs. George Atwater.
    of Barker, at the Somerset Methodist
    church. Rev. Benton F.
    Swartz, pastor, officiated at the
    ceremony.
    The bride, who was given in
    marriage by her father, was lovely
    in a white satin gown, with train,
    made princess style, with sweet-
    heart neckline, beaded bodice and
    leg-o-mutton sleeves. Her finger-
    tip veil fell from a tiara of tulle.
    She wore a string of pearls, a gift

    of the groom, and carried an arm
    bouquet of calla lilies.
    Attending her as maid of honor,
    was her sister. Miss Bernlce Voelker,
    a student at the Kelley Business Institute,
    Niagara Falls.
    Mrs. Roland Sanford, of Albion,
    and Miss Evelyn Whitney, of Middleport,
    were bridesmaids. Their
    dresses were made alike. The maid
    of honor, wearing aqua, and the
    bridesmaid, wearing rose, with
    shoulder length veils of contrasting
    colors, carried bouquets of daffodils
    and snap dragons.
    Arthur Porter, of Baltimore,
    Maryland, acted as bestman. The
    ushers were Roland Sanford, of
    Albion, and Richard Gaskill, of
    Newfane.
    Miss Fay Colman, of Barker, accompanied

    by Miss Hilda Parker,
    sang, "I Love You Truly" and "Oh
    Promise Me." Miss Parker also
    played the wedding March.
    The bride's mother was attired in
    a navy redingote dress with navy

    and white accessories. The groom's
    mother chose a dress of powder blue
    with matching accessories. They
    wore corsages of sweet peas.
    Following the double ring ceremony
    a reception was held at the
    home of the bride's parents which
    approximately 100 relatives and
    friends attended. Cousins and girl
    friends of the bride served the food.
    The three-tiered wedding cake, topped
    with a miniature bride and
    groom, was the centerpiece.
    A dinner was held at 7:30 at the
    Fenton hotel in Middleport for the
    bridal party and the parents of the
    bride and groom.
    For her going away costume, the

    bride chose a light blue gaberdine
    suit with navy and white accessories.
    After a wedding trip to New York
    City and Washington, D. C, the
    couple will reside in Lockport, where
    Mr. Atwater is employed
    Guests were present from Buf-
    falo, East Bethany, Barker, New-
    fane, Lockport, Middleport and
    Lyndonville.
    Mr. and Mrs. Atwater are both
    graduates of Barker high school.
    Prenuuptial events included a va-
    riety shower given by Miss Virginia
    Burkard, of Buffalo, a red and white
    kitchen shower, given by Mrs. Stan-
    ley Atwater, and a variety shower
    by Mrs. Sidney Engall and Mrs.
    Anna Bergeman, of Lyndonville.

    BARKER, N. Y., June 22.-Puneral
    services for Mrs. Adah Atwater,
    53, wife of George Atwater, Lower
    Lake road, who died Wednesday
    night after only a few hours illness,
    will be held at the family home tomorrow
    afternoon at 2 o'clock. The
    Rev. Marcum B. May will officiate.
    Interment will be In Hartland Central
    cemetery.
    Mrs. Atwater was stricken Wednesday
    afternoon in the Methodist
    church parlars at Somerset, with a
    cerebral hemorrhage shortlv after
    closing a meeting of the Woman's
    Society of Christian Service, at
    which she had preside*. A doctor
    and ambulance were called and she
    was taken to her home, where she
    -passed-away-at-10-o'clock that
    night.
    Besides her husband, she Is sur
    vived by three sons, Stanley, of
    Barker, Corporal Elwood Atwater,
    ln the Medical Corps of the Army
    of Occupation, somewhere In Germany,
    and Melvln, at home; three
    granddaughters; two sisters. Mrs.
    Grace Gasklll. of Millers. N. Y. and
    Miss Clara Martin, of Newark, N.
    Y.
    Mrs. Atwater was the daughter
    of the late Ezra and Cora Coates
    Martin and had resided all her life
    in the Town of Somerset She was
    a member of the Somerset Union
    Methodist church, the Somerset
    Woman's Society of Christian Service,
    Somerset Orange. Millers
    Home bureau and Townsend Chapter.
    Order of the Eastern Star.

    Ave., will be guests of honor
    at a family dinner Sunday at
    the Apple Grove Inn in observance
    of their 50th wedding
    anniversary.
    Mr. and Mrs. Voelker were
    married Dec. 12, 1917. They
    have lived in their, present
    home for two years. At one
    time they operated a farm at
    Yates Center for 20 years. Before
    that, they operated a
    farm oh Lower Lake Road.
    Mr. Voelker is presently employed
    by Wolfe's Lumber
    Mill, Gasport. The couple belongs
    to St. John's Lutheran
    Church.
    They have five children,

    Somerset and County Line were
    afflicted with three fatalities last week,
    namely : The funeral of a Mr. Leo at
    Barker village on the 16th inst, an
    obscure person about 70 years of age,
    of whom little is known. Funeral ser
    vices over the remains of the late Mrs.
    Nellist, of the same place, were observed
    on Wednesday, the 17th inst., at
    her late home. Deceased was born in
    Somerset 54 years ago and was the
    daughter of the late Aaron Coleman.
    She is survived by her husband,
    George M. Nellist; also by two children.
    her mother and several brothers
    and sisters. Funeral services were
    also observed on the same day over the
    remains of the late Stephen Atwater in
    the M. K. Church at Somerset. Deceased
    was born forty-two years ago
    ou the same farm where he died on
    the lake shore. He is survived by his
    wife and three children; also by one
    brother, William I.. Atwater and four
    sisters.

    Ezra. T. Martin. 84. was held at 2 30
    o'clock this afternoon at the home of
    his daughter. Mrs. George Atwater. of
    Lower Lake road The Rev William

    Methodist Episcopal church, officiated.
    Burial was In Somerset cemetery. Mr
    Martin passed away Friday at the
    Lockport City hospital where he underwent
    an operation Tor the imputation
    of his foot last Wednesday.
    Mr. Martin operated a blacksmith
    shop at Somerset for many years and
    later took up farming He was bom
    at Clarendale. N. Y. Since the death
    of his wife, he has been making his
    home with his daughter.
    He is survived by three daughters.

    BARKER, July 7.-The death of
    Mrs. Cora Martin, 71. wife of Ezra T.
    Martin, occurred Wednesday at her
    home, Somerset, following a prolonged
    illness. Funeral services will be
    held this afternoon at the home, with
    the Rev. Ernest F. Scott. pastor Somerset
    Methodist Episcopal church, officiating.
    Burial will be In Somerset
    cemetery.
    Mrs. Martin, a life-long resident of
    this town, was the last of a family
    of five, the daughter of Thomas and
    Jane Coates. pioneer residents. Until
    prevented by physical infirmities, Mrs.
    Martin was always active in church
    organizations. She was organist of
    Somerset M. E. church for many
    years, treasurer of the Ladies' Aid
    society and a member of the Woman's
    Foreign Missionary society, Somerset
    Grange and Somerset Academic association.
    She is survived by her husband and
    three daughters. Mrs. George Atwater,
    Barker. Mrs. Donald Gaskill, Millers,
    and Clara, at home, and six grandchildren.

    for Christopher Bergeman, 71.
    who died suddenly Monday of a
    cerebral hemorrhage at the home of
    his daughter, Mrs. Fred Voelker,
    West Lake road, will be held at his
    late home, North Main street, at 2
    o'clock tomorrow, followed by other
    rites in St. John's Lutheran church,
    County Line, the Rev. A. W. Glessner
    officiating. Burial will be in
    Lynhaven.
    Born in Germany, Mr. Bergeman
    came to this country at an early age.
    He spent many years farming on
    the West LaKe road before moving
    to Lyndonvllle.
    Besides Mrs. Voelker, other survivors
    are his wife, Mrs. Anna Foss
    Bergeman; two daughters, Mrs. Sidney
    Engall and Mrs. Arthur Klino,
    Lyndonvllle; four half-brothers,
    Fred and August Quintern, Medina;
    Albert Quintern, Millville; and
    Ferdinand Quintern, Eagle Harbor;
    a half-sister, Mrs. Martha Blessett,
    Kuckvlile; and eight grandchildren.

    Christopher married FOSS, Anna on 4 Mar 1895 in Town of Yates, Orleans County, NY. Anna (daughter of FOSS, John and Minnie) was born on 2 Jun 1872 in Town of Somerset, Niagara County, NY; died on 18 May 1961 in Medina, Orleans County, NY. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Mrs. Anna Bergeman. 88, of N.
    Main St., Lyndonville, died Thursday
    (May 18, 1961) in Medina Memorial
    Hospital, where she had
    been a patient for a week, following
    a stroke.
    Born in the Town of Somerset
    June 2, 1872, she was the daughter
    of John and Minnie Foss.
    March 4, 1895, she was married
    to Chris Bergeman of the Town
    of Yates. Mr. Bergeman died in
    1940.
    She was amember of St. John's
    Lutheran Church at County Line.
    She is survived by three daughters,
    Mrs. Fred Voelker, Y a t e s
    Center; Mrs. Sidney Engall and
    Mrs. Arthur Klino, both Lyndonville;
    a brother, Leo Foss, Lyndonville;
    and five sisters, Mrs.
    Frederick York, Corry, Pa.; Mrs.
    Evelyn Payne, Medina; Mrs. Harry
    Westcott, Lockport; Mrs. Viola
    Henion and Mrs. Lewis Cole,
    both Lyndonville. Eight grandchildren,
    14 great - grandchildren
    and several nieces and nephews
    survive her.
    Services will be held Sunday
    afternoon at 2 at the Smythe
    Funeral Home, Lyndonville, the
    Rev. Clarence Elliott, pastor of
    St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating.
    Burial will be Lynhaven
    Cemetery.
