    BUFFALO — (Lewiston) - James G. McGhee, age 64, of Lewiston, died Saturday, August 7, 2010, in Roswell Park Cancer Institute, in Buffalo.

    James was born May 21, 1946, in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late John N. and Margaret (Tracy) McGhee. He attended local schools and graduated in 1964 from Wilson High School. James served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968. He married Louise (Placek) McGhee on August 15, 1970 at St. Stanislaus RC Church, in Niagara Falls.

    He worked in maintenance and chemical operations for Harrison Radiator, Hysen Supplies, Montgomery Ward, Dupont, Safety Kleen and the Bartech Group at Detroit Edison, MI, retiring in 2006. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his friends and family, and traveling with his wife. He also spent time building homes for his son and daughter. James was a past commander and member of American Legion O. Leo Curtiss Post #830 in Ransomville.

    In addition to his wife, Louise, he is survived by a son, Brett W. (Stephanie) McGhee of Newfane; a daughter, Traci A. (Dave) Wayda of Youngstown; his grandchildren, Taylor, Cameron, Jensen and Morgan McGhee, all of Newfane, and Tori Wayda of Youngstown; a brother, John N. McGhee, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

    Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 10 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Moran officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Youngstown. Memorials may be made to Camp Good Days & Special Times, 2440 Sheridan Dr., Tonawanda, NY 14150.

    Legion Portage Post. On their
    return from a motor trip to
    the Cape Cod area, Mr. and
    Mrs. McGhee will reside in
    Lockport. The bride is a
    teacher at Lockport Senior
    High School.

    NIAGARA FALLS — Jeannette (Smistek) Placek, 86 years old, went to be with her Lord while surrounded by her loving family on November 30, 2011. She was born in Niagara Falls on May 10, 1925,the daughter of the late Frank and Louise (Syper) Smistek.

    Mrs. Placek attended Holy Trinity Parochial School and Niagara Falls High School. She worked as a production packer for 23 years at Carborundum in Wheatfield and retired in 1987. One of the great joys in her life was polka dancing. She taught her children and grandchildren how to polka and on this past October 1st, she enjoyed a night of dancing with her entire family. Mrs. Placek's special place was her cottage at Long Beach, where she enjoyed many wonderful times with her family. During her retirement years, she babysat all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Portage Post #1465 Ladies Auxiliary and the Carborundum Retirees. She also enjoyed activities at the Duke Center.

    Mrs. Placek was predeceased by her husband, Edward Placek, who passed away in 1982. She is survived by her children, Louise (late James) McGhee of Lewiston, Gloria (Mark Bullock) Gwozdek of the Town of Niagara and Gary (Margaret) Placek of Niagara Falls. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Placek is also survived by her companion of 22 years, Bruce Felton, with whom she traveled the world. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Smistek.

    Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 PM at the LABUDA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 356 Portage Road, where the American Legion Portage Post #1465 Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a prayer service at 4:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at Divine Mercy Parish, corner of Niagara and 24th Streets, with Rev. Jacek P. Mazur officiating. PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
