    Arthur W. "Sonny" Krehan, age 89, died September 30, 2014, at his home in Addison, Maine. He was born February 28, 1925 in North Tonawanda. He was the son of August and Ida M. (nee Refke) Krehan.

    He served in WWII as an electrician's mate and received the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and Victory Medal. He received a teaching degree from Buffalo State and became a shop teach. He later went to work for New York State setting up training programs in companies throughout Western New York. He loved to travel and interact with people. After retiring from his job with the State, he became active with the Riverside Lions Club, Meals on Wheels, LaSalle Sportsman's Club and the Renaissance Club.

    He is survived by a son, Raymond; step-daughters, Karen Unruh and Linda Berndt; grandsons, Philip Krehan, Steven Latimer, Jeff Unruh and granddaughter, Lindy Bohlen; six great-grandchildren, Kelsey Krehan, Shawn Krehan, Kellen, Latimer, Macie Latimer, A.J. Bohen and Oliver Unruh. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Marie (Bernhardt) and brothers, Herman and Gary; and great-grandchild, Mackenzie Latimer.

    Private funeral services will be held at Fretthold Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery.

    Born in Germany, he lived
    in this city for 54 years. He
    was formerly employed as a
    machinist by the Carborundum
    Co':, Niagara Falls, and
    retired 12 years ago. He was
    a member of St. Matthew's
    Lutheran Church. Surviving
    are his wife, the former Ida
    Refke;,three sons, Herman G.
    Gerhardt K, and Arthur W.
    Krehan, all of this city;, eight
    grandchildren and.eight great
    grandchildren.
    Rev. A. W. Moldenhauer will
    conduct, funeral services at, 2
    p.m. Saturday in the Frethoid
    Funeral Home. Burial will be
    in St. Matthew's Lutheran
    Cemetery.

    NORTH TONAWANDA -
    Mrs. Ida M. Krehan, 78, widow
    of the late August Krehan,
    formerly of 724 Cramer St.,
    died Sunday, (Oct. 8, 1972) at
    DeGraff Memorial Hospital
    after a long illness.
    She was a member of St.
    Matthew's Lutheran Church,
    the Golden Agers of the .
    Tonawandas, and the Senior
    Citizens of this city.
    Survivors include three sons:
    Herman G. Krehan and
    Gerhardt Krehan, both of
    North Tonawanda, and Arthur
    W. Krehan of Grand Island,
    three sisters, Mrs. Anna Herth
    and Mrs. Marie Schmeling,
    both of Germany, and Mrs
    Gustel Bush of Buffalo; a
    brother, Gustav Refke of
    Germany; eight grandchildren
    and 12 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held
    at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the
    Fretthold Funeral Home with
    the Rev. A.W. Moldenhauer
    officiating.
    Burial will be in the St.
    Matthews Lutheran Cemetery.
    Friends may call from 2 to 4
    p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.. at the
    funeral home today and
    Tuesday.

    NORTH TONAWANDA-
    Mr. and Mrs. August E.
    Krehan, 24 Cramer Street,
    will celebrate their 50th
    wedding anniversary today
    with a open house at their
    home beginning at 3 p.m.
    Mr. and Mrs. Krehan
    were married April 8, 1912
    at Marienwerder, Germany,
    and moved to this country
    two weeks later. They have
    resided in this area since.
    Mr. Krehan was employed
    for 15 years at the Carborundum
    Co., Niagara Falls,
    prior to his retirement in
    1952.
    Joining in the celebration
    today will be the couple's
    three sons, Herman G.,
    Gerhardt E. and Arthur W.
    Krenan, all of this city;
    e i g h t grandchildren and
    seven great, grandchildren.
    The family will attend
    church services at St. Matthew's
    Lutheran Church
    and a dinner at Warren's
    Steak House prior to the
    open house.
