    CITY OF TONAWANDA — Anna B. (nee Ross) Gentzke, age 91, of the City of Tonawanda, Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Absolut Care of Aurora. Born in DuBois, PA, she had been a resident of Tonawanda for more than 70 years, and was the wife of Frank L. Gentzke, who died in 1997; and was the grandmother of the late Richard Gentzke of Indianapolis, IN. Anna had formerly been employed at Valis Ice Cream Luncheonette and Remington Rand, both in North Tonawanda, Dr. George Nussbaum Dental office in Tonawanda, and Creations on China. Anna also hand-painted china portraits and flower designs since the late 1970’s and was a member of the Great Lakes China Painters Assn. for many years, and will be a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the New York State World Organization of China Painters. She was also a member of Sirius Chapter 301 OES.

    She is survived by four children, Frank S. (Audrey) Gentzke of Indianapolis, IN, Nancy E. (Kenneth) Schifferle of Williamsville, Kenneth L. (Mary) Gentzke of Honeoye, NY, and Glenn D. (Ann) Gentzke of Tonawanda; eight grandchildren, Laurie (David), Steven (Laurie), Michael (Peggy), Michael (Kathy), Kenneth Jr. (Kim), Scott (Jen), Gerlinde and Glenn James; 15 great-grandchildren, Kelly, Matthew, Jill, Ryan, Katie, Kaylie, Sean, Eric, Brian, Wayne, Ken III, Paul, Courtney, Tyler and Zoe; and four great-great-grandchildren, Jordan, Tyler, Zachary and Alexis; three sisters, Nancy (late Donald) Thorpe of Lockport, Marion (Leo) Ziegler of the Town of Tonawanda, and Jessie (Thomas) Garrity of Tonawanda; two sisters-in-law, Virginia (late Edward) Kopp and Eleanor (late Wilbur) Gentzke, both of North Tonawanda. She was the sister of the late John (late Frances), Samuel (late Ethel) and William (late Frances) Ross, Florence Ross, Iona (late William) Balls, Janet Ross, Dorothy (late Robert) Scott and Catherine (late Edward) Briggs. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

    Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7-9 and Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts.), in Tonawanda. Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 10:30 AM in Immanuel Lutheran Church, corner of William and Scott Sts., in Tonawanda. Friends invited. The Rev. Robert L. Rickus will officiate. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or to Hospice Buffalo, Inc.

    GENTZKE - Otto F Gentzke. 93. of Tonawanda. Monday evening (Sept 2, 1974) at Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Germany, he had been a resident of Tonawanda the greater part of his life and was the husband of Lillian A. (nee Jaenecke) Gentzke. who died in 1967 Mr Gentzke owned and operated Gentzke's Market at Main and Adam Sts in Tonawanda for more than 55 years, retiring ten years ago. He was past president of Immanuel Lutheran Church and member of St. Matthew, Lutheran Church. L.L.L., and the Lutheran Extension Society. He is survived by four daughters. Mrs. John (Helen) Schulz. Mrs. Edmund (Erma) Hoffmeister. Mrs. Martin (Verna) Wambsganss and Mrs. Edward (Virginia) Kopp. all of the Tonawandas; six sons. Wilbert F., Frank L .. Walter G , and Otto Gentzke Jr . all of the Tonawandas. Marvin J., of Barker. N.Y., and Harley H Gentzke of Niagara Falls: 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.. and until noon Thursday at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Morgan and William Sts .     August C. Jaenecke, 89, of 107 Zimmerman street, a life-long resident and a member of the St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran church, died this morning at his home after a prolonged illness. He is survived by two sons, Julius and Arnold of North Tonawanda; two daughters, Mrs. Rose Kaufmann of North Tonawanda and Mrs. O. F. Gentzke of Tonawanda; 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a brother, William Jaenecke of North Tonawanda, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hake of Alden, Mrs. Elizabeth Kopp of Ransomville and Mrs. Anna Goltz of North Tonawanda. Two of the grandsons, Pvt. Norman Jaenecke of the U. S. Army and Pvt. Otto Gentzke of the U. S. Marines, are serving with the armed forces. Rites will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence. The Rev. Carl Frankenstein will officiate. Burial will be in St. Matthew's cemetery.
