September 14, 2013 Thomas E. Garrity Anonymous The Tonawanda News The Tonawanda News Sat Sep 14, 2013, 04:25 PM EDT CITY OF TONAWANDA — Thomas E. Garrity, age 88, of the City of Tonawanda, died on Saturday, September 14, 2013, after a brief illness. Born in Tonawanda, NY to the late Richard J. and Whilamenna (Kohler) Garrity, he was a lifelong resident of the City of Tonawanda, and was the husband of Jessie A. (nee Ross) Garrity, who died in August of 2012. Thomas was a US Navy Veteran of WW II. He had been employed as a letter carrier for the City of Tonawanda for over 20 years, retiring in 1982. Thomas was a 60 plus-year member of Union Hook & Ladder Co. # 1, a member of the Tonawanda Historical Society, and a longtime member of Tonawanda United Methodist Church. He was also an avid golfer and and active bowler. He is survived by one daughter, Letetia (Mark) Dahlquist of Grand Island, NY; three grandchildren, Thomas (Grace) Dahlquist, James Dahlquist, and Nancy Dahlquist; one great-grandson, Henry Thomas Dahlquist; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James, Richard, Margaret, Charles, Gladys, John, William, Catherine, Joseph, Robert, Elizabeth, and Etta. Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at JOHN O. ROTH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 25 William St. (Between Morgan & Broad Sts.) City of Tonawanda, where a Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 17th at 11 AM. Friends invited. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery.
