    Occupants of Car Are Showered with Blazing Fluid - Man Leaps into Water
    Mr. and. Mrs, Adelbert Sherman. No. 3 Niagara street, Mrs. Jacob Meahl. No. 466 Second street, this city, and Arnold Cumrow of Ransomville, were fatally injured when an auto owned by Sherman and in which all four rode early Sunday morning
    was sideswiped by a Lehigh Valley freight train at the Ellicott creek crossing in Tonawanda. The Shermans are survived by two children, nine and eleven respectively. Mrs. Meahl is survived by her husband and two children aged seven and four respectively. The women were sisters. It was told here that Mr. Sherman was trying out a new car and that his wife at first objected to making the trip out Saturday night. Coroner Helwig will conduct an inquest. Sherman was a trusted employe at the Wm. A. Rogers, Ltd., and had lived here fourteen years. Mr. Meahl is employed in an up river plant.
    Gasoline Explodes.
    When the collision occurred the gasoline tank of the auto exploded and the vehicle was set on fire. The clothing of the woman and Cumrow caught fire. Sherman jumped into the creek from which his body was taken Sunday'morning. The others died in the DeGraff hospital. The two men and Cumrow were Jammed
    in the car with their clothing on fire and the. train crew had to release them. An all night search for Sherman proved futile until daylight when the creek was dragged, He had a fractured skull and other injuries. He jumped from the car before it caught fire. Mrs. Meahl will be buried in Akron, NY. Mr & Mrs. Sherman in Newfane, and Cumrow in Ransomville.
