    LEWISTON — Andrew H. Nowak, surrounded by his loving family, was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The family is grateful for the dignity provided by Niagara Hospice.

    Andrew grew up in Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. In 1960 he joined the Niagara Falls Police Force and retired after 27 dedicated years to the City of Niagara Falls.

    Andrew is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet (Sullivan) Nowak. Andrew will be lovingly remembered by his three sons, Martin of Lewiston, Vincent of Texas, and Sean (Erin) of Illinois; three daughters, Linda Hardison of Lewiston, Diane (Joe) Ippolito of Grand Island, and Katherine Nowak (Miles Smith) of Sewickley, PA. Andrew H. was predeceased this year by a son, Andrew V. Nowak. He is also survived by grandchildren, Eric, Samantha, James, Ryan, Sean, Jayden, Gregory, Evan, Ian, Nicole, Rachel, Kyle, Lila and Whitney and great-grandchildren, McKenna and Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews. Andrew will also be remembered by his brothers, Thomas (Jo) of Mississippi, Steven (Donna) of Niagara Falls, and Leonard (Karen) of Niagara Falls; and sisters, Pauline (late Myron) Pucak and Margie (John) Urban, both of Niagara Falls. Andrew was predeceased by brothers, Henry, Martin, Stanley, Frank, Philip and Paul; and two sisters, Helen Oliver and Mary Jane Baggos.

    Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston on Friday from 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Robert Hughson on Saturday, December 11th at 10 AM at the St Vincent de Paul Parish, Prince of Peace site at 1055 N. Military Rd. (Please assemble at church.) Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Holy Angels Mausoleum.     Janet Nowak passed away peacefully on April 6, 2023 in Amarillo,TX surrounded by family. Janet was born on March 11, 1937 to Henry and Mary(Collins) Sullivan. She attended St. Mary's high school and went on to work at Niagara University. She married the love of her life, Andrew Nowak, on June 16, 1956, who preceded her in death on December 7, 2010. Janet’s first love was her family. She was an outstanding seamstress, and it showed in the clothes that she made for her children and grandchildren. Among the favorites, her knitted sweaters, hats and mittens. Janet was a longtime secretary at Prince of Peace rectory in Niagara Falls, NY. Her other love was being a dance teacher at Miss Bev's Dance Studio. She also looked forward to her monthly breakfasts with her girlfriends.Janet joins in spirit her husband Andrew H. Nowak along with her firstborn Andrew Vincent Nowak. She was also predeceased by five brothers and four sisters.Janet will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Martin of Bradford, PA, Vincent of Amarillo, TX, Sean,of Lewiston, NY. Three daughters, Linda Hardison of Lewiston, NY, Diane(Joe) Ippolito of Fort Myers, FL, and Katie Smith of Sewickley, PA.Janet will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Eric (Erika)Nowak, Samantha(Adrian)Villegas, James Nowak, Ryan(Katie)Nowak, Sean Nowak , and Jaden Farrell.     Sacred Heart Church was the setting for the marriage rite
    of Miss Janet Ann Sullivan, to Andrew H,. Nowak this morning
    (June 16, 1956) at 10 o'clock. The Rev. Francis Gardner
    performed the double-ring ceremony for the daughter of
    Mrs. Daniel A. Sullivan, Cleveland Ave. and the late Mr.
    Sullivan, and the son of Henry Nowak, A St., and the late
    Mrs. Nowak.
    Henry Collins,- uncle of the
    bride, escorted her to the altar.
    Her gown, fashioned of lace and
    tulle, was styled with a Sabrina
    neckline and a full skirt with inserts
    of ruffled tulle extending
    (o a cathedral-length train. A
    beaded queen's crown held a
    veil of illusion, and she carried
    an orchid mounted on a prayer
    book.
    Miss Joan Sullivan was maid
    of honor and bridal attendants
    were Mrs. Lester Gillian and
    Miss Pauline Nowak. They wore
    orchid nylon chiffon gowns with
    picture hats. Mary Lou Roy was
    flower girl.
    Henry Nowak Jr., was best
    man, and ushers were William
    Oliver and David Roy.

    Mrs. Mary Nowak, 46, of 61 A
    street, mother of Radarman Martin
    Joseph Nowak, U. S. Navy, who was
    killed early in the Korean war on
    the aircraft carrier, Pledge, died suddenly
    late yesterday at Mt. St. Mary's
    hospital.
    Requiem High Mass for Mrs.
    Nowak will be celebrated at 9 a.m.
    on Wednesday at Our Lady of the
    Rosary church after 8:30 a.m. services
    at the Zajac Funeral home.
    Mrs. Nowak was born at Bituman,
    Pa., and moved here during her infancy.
    She attended Sugar Street
    school and Our Lady of Rosary
    parochial school.
    Mrs. Nowak was the mother of 12
    other children, Two of her-sons,
    Stanley Nowak, AK2, Lakehurst, N.
    J., and Philip Nowak, AOAN, San
    Francisco, Calif., are serving in the
    United States Navy.
    Abo surviving are her husband,
    Henry Nowak; six other sons, Henry,
    Thomas, Andrew, Stephen, Leonard
    and Francis Nowak, all pf this city;
    four daughters, the Misses Helen,
    Pauline and Margaret Nowak and
    Mrs. Mary Jane Roy, all of this
    city;, her mother, Mrs. Mary Monko,
    this city; six sisters, Mrs. Margaret
    Polewicz, Mrs. Josephine Guzdek,
    Mrs. Sophie Beczkowski, Mrs. Helen
    Schram and Mrs. Susan Kapelka,
    all of this city, and Mrs. Anna
    Tomaka, Lackawanna; two brothers,
    Michael and John Monko, this city;
    one grandchild and 19 nieces and
    nephews.
    Burial will be in Gat of Heaven
    cemetery.

    Engineer Dies
    Daniel A. Sullivan, 1637 Cleveland
    avenue, a locomotive engineer
    for the New York Central system
    for the last 39 years, died early today
    at Memorial hospital after
    a lengthy illness.
    Solemn Requiem Mass for Mr.
    Sullivan will be sung at Sacred Heart
    church at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday
    after 9 a.m. services at the Rhoney
    Funeral home. Burial will be in
    Gate of Heaven cemetery.
    Mr. Sullivan was born in New
    York City. He served for three
    years in the U. S. Army after which
    he came here to work with the New
    York Central.
    In this city, he was a member
    of the New York Central Veterans
    association, the Sacred Heart Holy
    Name society, the North End Demo-
    cratic club and the Brotherhood of
    Locomotive Firemen and Engine-
    men.
    Surviving are his wife, Mary, four
    daughters., Mrs. Lester Gillman.
    Mrs. Robert Considine. Miss Janet
    Sullivan and Miss . Joan Sullivan;
    four sons. Henry. Daniel A. Jr.,

    Funeral services will be held Saturday,
    for Mrs. Mary Monko, 3012
    Monroe Ave., who died last night
    in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital after a
    long illness.
    A native of Czechoslovakia, she
    was a resident of this city for 42
    years and was the widow of Martin
    Monko.
    Mrs. Monko was a member of
    the Ladies Sodality and Society,
    St. Mary's Greek Catholic Church;
    the Polish Roman Catholic Union
    and St. Hedwig's Society. During
    World War II, she was employed at
    International Graphite and Electrode
    Co. for about 2-1/2 years.
    She is survived by'six daughters,
    Mrs. Sophie Beczkowski, Mrs.
    Helen Schram, Mrs. Margaret Polewicz,
    Mrs. Susan Kapelka and Mrs.
    Josephine Guzdek. all of this city,
    and Mrs. Anna Tomaka, Lackawanna.
    Two sons. John and Michael
    Monko; a brother, Andrew Prokop,
    Beaverdale, Pa.; 32 grandchildren
    and 19 great-grandchildren also survive.
    The services will be held at the
    Zajac Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m.
    Saturday and at St. Mary's Greek
    Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment
