  1. 1.  BECKETT, Harold D was born about 1908 in Oswego, Oswego County, NY (son of BECKETT, George H and Pearl); died on 12 Jul 1944 in Burma.

    The body of S/Sgt. Harold D.
    Beckett, son of Mrs. Peaarl Beckett,
    934 South avenue, will arrive at
    the New York Central railroad sta-
    tion at 8:56 a.m. tomorrow. He was
    killed in action in Burma on July 12, 1944.
    Born in Oswego, Sgt. Beckett
    came to Niagara Falls at the age of
    15 and was employed at E. I. du
    Pont de Nemours and company for
    seven years, prior to his enlistment
    in the army on August 11, 1943.
    After training as a machine
    funner at Camp Van Dorn, Miss.
    he left for overseas duty on Apr.
    23, 1944, arriving in India in May.
    He was then sent to Burma.
    Sgt. Beckett is survived by his
    mother, a brother, Glenn L. Beck-
    ett, and a sister, Mrs. John Werth,
    all of this city.
    Services will be held at 2 p.m.
    Saturday at the Bell Funeral par-
    lor, with the Rev. George Keeling
    officiating. Interment will be in
    Memorial Park cemetery.

    Mrs. Pearl Beckett, 81, of
    1149 LaSalle Ave., died in the
    Ransomville Nursing Home
    late Monday night (Feb. 24,
    1969) after an illness of 2-1/2
    years.
    Born in Hannible, Oswego
    County, Mrs. Beckett had
    lived in Niagara Falls for
    the last 54 years. She was a
    member of St. James United
    Methodist Church, the Gold
    Star Mothers Club of Niagara
    Falls, the Spanish-American
    War Veterans women's auxiliary
    and the auxiliary of Veterans
    of Foreign Wars, Post
    54, this city.
    Mrs. Beckett lost a son in
    World War II-Army Staff
    Sgt. Harold Beckett who was
    killed in Burma.
    She is survived by a son,
    Glenn L. Beckett, this city;
    two grandchildren and one
    great-granddaughter.
    Funeral services will be
    held Thursday at 2 p.m. at
    the Otto Redanz Funeral
    Home, with the Rev. William
    H. Jessop, pastor of St.
    James Church, officiating.
    Burial will be in Memorial
    Park Cemetery.
    Friends may call today
    from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday
    from 3 to 5 and 7 to
    9 pjn.
