    Hewitts Celebrate 50th Anniversary;
    Both Are Descendants of Early Settlers
    Members of two of the oldest families which settled in this area,
    Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hewitt, Military road, Lewiston, celebrated their
    golden wedding anniversary on Sunday with an open house at their
    home.
    Attractively attired in a floor-length gown of dusty pink, chiffon
    and Chantilly lace, Mr. ansi Mrs. Hewitt received more than 250
    guests at the observance.
    The first town meeting of Cambria
    in 1808, which then embraced
    all of Western New York was held
    at the home of Mr. Joseph Hewitt,
    great grandfather of Mr. Hewitt.
    The pioneer served as the first
    supervisor in 1808 and 1809' and
    for two additional terms several
    years later. During the War of
    1812, the Hewitt family was burned
    out by the Indians. Mr. Roy. Hewitt
    served as supervisor for the Town
    of Lewiston for six years and for
    five years was a member of the
    New York State Assembly from the
    Second assembly district of Niagara
    county.
    Mrs. Hewitt is the former Miss
    Edna J. Sutherland, whose great
    grandparents settled on the Upper
    Mountain road in 1814. The original
    house still .stands near Military
    road. She formerly was a teacher
    in the Wilson and Lewiston schools.
    The residence of Mr. and Mrs.
    Hewitt was decorated for the celebration
    with golden roses, chrysanthemums,
    gladioli and spring
    flowers. Mrs. John Diez, Wilson,
    and Mrs, Alan Hewitt, Lewiston,
    presided at the lace covered table
    enhanced with candelabra and a
    centerpiece of yellow roses and
    snapdragons with blue iris.
    Mr. and Mrs. Hewitt are the
    parents of Mrs. Robert Robertson.
    Mrs. Kenneth Potter, Mrs. Paul
    Sticker. Mr. J. Paul Hewitt and
    Mrs. Howard Davidson, all of
    Lewiston, and Mr. Russell Hewitt
    and Mrs. A. E. Shrubsall, of this
    city. They have four grandchildren,
    Miss Sharon Strieker. Mr. William
    Barney, Mr. Robert Hewitt and
    Miss Linda Davidson. Among outof-
    town guests were those from
    Washington, D. C, Angola and
    Welland, Ont.

    2. HEWITT, Russell Willard was born on 31 Jan 1909 in Town of Lewiston, Niagara County, NY; died on 26 Dec 2000 in Town of Lewiston, Niagara County, NY; was buried on 28 Dec 2000 in St Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Bergholtz, Niagara County, NY.
    3. HEWITT, Grace H was born about 1912 in ND; and died.
    4. HEWITT, Jerome Paul was born about 1913 in ND; died in 1999; was buried in North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria, Niagara County, NY.
    5. HEWITT, Doris M was born about 1915 in ND.
