    Mrs. Katherhie Mack, widow of
    John E. Mack and one of the most j
    widely known residents of the north!
    end section of the city, died today at
    her home, 1661 Ontario avenue. She
    was 83 years old and had been ill
    only two weeks. Plans for the funeral
    have not been completed.
    Born In Wurten, Germany, Mrs.
    Mack came to Niagara Falls when
    she was 16 years old and had lived
    here ever since. She was held in
    the highest esteem among a wide
    circle of friends, she was a member
    of the Zlon Lutheran church for the
    past 67 years and was an active
    worker in numerous church affairs
    She was a member of the Ladles Aid
    society of the church and of Riverdae
    Rebekah Lodge. No. 195, I.O.O.P.
    Mrs. Mack is survived by three
    sons, Jacob, Charles and John Mack,
    all of this city; four daughters, Mrs.
    John Gassier, Mrs. Fred Winker and
    Mrs. Louis Hudson, of this city, and
    Mrs. Herman Quester. of Sanborn;
    21 grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren

    George Mess Dies
    of Heart Disease

    Was One of Best Known Con-
    tractors.in City, a Member of
    Zion Lutheran Church.

    George Mess, for 25 years a well
    known and respected resident of this
    city, died yesterday afternoon at his
    home, No. 1639 Niagara avenue. He
    had been ill enough to be confined to
    his bed only one day. Death was due
    to arterio-scherosis.
    Mr. Mess was born in Germany 71
    years ago. He emigrated from there
    with his parents, when he was 17
    years old, and settled at Ayton, Ont.
    where he met and married Katherine
    Guinther, soon after. He came to
    Niagara Falls with his family in 1897
    starting a mason contracting busi-
    ness which he conducted successful-
    ly until his retirement five years ago.
    On May 12, of this year, he and his
    wife celebrated their golden wedding
    anniversary.
    He was a member of the Zion
    Lutheran church, and served for 17
    years as an elder on the church coun-
    cil. He was also a member of Ni-
    agara River Lodge, No. 785, F. and
    A.M.; Niagara Chapter, No. 190, R.
    A. M.; Niagara Commandery, No. 61
    K.t. and Ismailia Temple, of Buf-
    falo.
    The following survive him besides
    his wife: Three daughters, Mrs.
    Henry Laur, Mrs. Jacob Mack, Mrs.
    Charles Mack two sons, Willian and
    Henry G. Mess, all of this city; a sis-
    ter, Mrs. Margaret Miller of New
    York and 10 grandchildren.
    Mrs. Laur and Mrs. Mack left with
    their husbands a few days ago for a
    vacation trip in upper Canada and can-
    not readily be reached.
    Funeral services will be held Wed-
    nesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the
    house and at 2:30 o'clock from Zion
    Lutheran church. The Rev. Herman
    Brezing will officiate. Masonic ser-
    vices under the auspices of Niagara
    River Lodge No. 785, F. & A.M., will
    be held at the grave.
