Obituary for Francis Sumi "Frank"
Francis "Frank" Sumi, A life long resident of North Tonawanda, passed away unexpectedly on November 30, 2020 at the age of 70. Frank was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School and Buffalo State College. He was a teacher in the Niagara Falls City School District for 33 Years. He coached hockey at LaSalle Senior High School, and coached Babe Ruth Baseball. Frank was an avid Bills, Sabres, and Yankees Fan. In 2012 he got the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at the Yankee Stadium. He also enjoyed golfing and going on the yearly golf trips. Most of all Frank loved to spend his time with his friends and family. Frank was a longtime member of Third Warders Social Club, where he participated on many of the sports teams over the years, and was a member of the GAC Club. Frank always looked forward to his weekly get-togethers with the guys.
Frank was a loving father, brother, uncle, and devoted friend. Frank leaves behind his children Erik (Jamie), Joanie (Ernie), Ryan, and their mother Lynda (Tussing) Sumi. Devoted grandfather of Ava, Dylan, and Riley, brother of Wayne (Maureen) Sumi, and Joan Wisniewski, also survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Frank was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Mary Sumi, also his nephew Mark Sumi.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, private services will be held for the immediate family. A public celebration of Franks life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Third Warders Social Club Building Fund in Franks Memory.

BUFFALO — James J. Carere, age 60, of North Tonawanda, passed away January 7, 2011 in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, following a long illness. Mr. Carere was born February 23, 1950 in North Tonawanda, son of the late Joseph and Adelaide Carere.

Mr. Carere, a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, graduated from North Tonawanda High School and Buffalo State College. Mr. Carere enjoyed being surrounded by his family and sharing family traditions. He was a very talented man, designing and constructing a vacation home on the lake for his family.

Beloved husband of Kathleen (Stenzel) Carere; devoted father of Jamie (Erik) Sumi and Joseph Carere, both of North Tonawanda; loving grandfather of Ava and Dylan; also survived by an uncle, Anthony Clementino and many close cousins.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 15 at 11:00 AM at First Trinity Lutheran Church, 1570 Niagara Falls Blvd., Tonawanda. Flowers gratefully declined. Arrangements by Wattengel Funeral Home (692-0440).

Held, died Tuesday (Jan. 11,
1966 at DeGraff Memorial
Hospital. Mr. Stenzel suffered
an apparent heart attack
at his home earlier In
the evening and waa taken to
the hospital.
He was a life long resident
of St. Johnsburg and a member
of St. John's Lutheran
Church and the Luther Lay
league of the church. He was
employed as a machinist at
the Carborundum Co.
He is survived by his wife;
a son, Kent Stenzel, and a
doughter, Miss Kathleen Sten.

TOWN OF WHEATFIELD - Erna L. (nee Pfohl) Stenzel, age 89, of the Town of Wheatfield, February 24, 2011 in Crestwood Health Care Facility. Erna was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild; she had also served as a Sunday School teacher. She loved animals and had work for the McBride Small Animal Hospital. She was the wife of the late Carl Stenzel who died in 1966. Beloved mother of Kathleen (late James) Carere of North Tonawanda and Kent (Barbara) Stenzel of Hamilton, MT. Grandmother of Roger (Martha) Stenzel of Renton, WA, James (Kristi) Stenzel of Hayden, ID; Kara (Billy) Tabor of Corvallis, MT, Jamie (Erik) Sumi and Joe Carere, both of North Tonawanda; great-grandmother of nine great-grandchildren; sister of the late Wallace and Gustav Pfohl. Dear aunt of Carol (Gilbert) Walck of Sanborn. Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd. in North Tonawanda on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
