    Samuel E. Britton Sr., 81, of
    8010 Lockport Road, Town of
    Niagara, died late Saturday at
    his home after a lengthy illness.
    He was a former peace justice,
    having served Town of
    Niagara in that capacity for
    18 years.
    Mr. Brittton was • born on
    • July 7, 1885 in Niagara Falls.
    He was the husband of the
    late Philomena Lochner Britton,
    who died in 1956.
    A lifelong Republican, he
    was at one time the GOP candidate
    • for State Assembly.
    More than 70 years ago he
    was a Gazette, carrier boy in
    this city. He moved to the
    Town of Niagara 50 years ago.
    "He retired about 15 years
    ago after working for several
    years in the New York Central
    Railroad car shop. He was
    employed by the railroad for
    35 years.
    He was a charter member
    of the Railroad Clerk's Association.
    He- is survived by six sons,
    Earl P.. John J., and Phillip
    C; Britton, all of this city,
    Harry and Harold Britton,
    both of Cape Kennedy, Fla.,
    and Samuel E. Britton Jr. of
    California: five daughters,
    Mrs. Angus Gray, of this city,
    Mrs. Ernest Ganshow, Mrs.
    Seymour Martin and Mrs.
    William Fredericks, all of
    Wilson, and Mrs. George Amsdill
    of Lewiston: three sisters,
    Mrs. Jacob Sweitzer, this city,
    Mrs. Irene Blount, of North
    Tonawanda, and Mrs. Lulu
    Packer, of Los Angeles, Calif.;
    36 gra n dchild ren; and 44
    •great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 2
    p.m. Tuesday at the Cornell
    and Daggett Funeral Chapel.

    Mrs. Philomena Teresa Britton.
    68, RFD No. 1, Lockport Rd.,
    Town of Niagara, died 'today (Jan.
    14, 1956) at her home.. Mrs. Britton
    had been in poor health for
    more than three years. Her last
    sickness was of a few days length.
    Mrs. Britton was a native of
    Pittsburgh, Pa. She had resided in
    the Town of Niagara for 38 years.
    Surviving are her husband, Samuel
    Earl Britton, retired justice of
    the peace: six sons, Earl. Samuel,
    John, Phillip, Harry and Harold
    Britton, all of Town of Niagara;
    five daughters, Mrs. Ernest Ganshaw,
    Wilson; Mrs. Grace Gray,
    Town of Niagara, Mrs. Seymour
    Martin, Wilson, Mrs. George Armdell,
    Lewiston, and Mrs. William
    Fredericks,-Wilson: 33 grandchild-
    ren; 2 great grandchildren; a brother,
    Lawrence Schubert, Pittsburgh;
    and a sister, Mrs. Phillip
    Vrenegor. Town of Niagara.
    Funeral services will be held
    Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at Cornell
    and Daggett Funeral Chapel and
    at 9 o'clock at St. Teresa of the
    Infant Jesus Church. Burial will
    be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

    General Hospital after a month's illness.
    Born in Wheatland, Pa., he*
    lived in this area since 1929.
    He was a contractor and home
    builder until his retirement.
    He is survived by his wife,
    Mrs. Mattie Tucker; three
    daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Margaret)
    Fogg, Sanborn, Mrs.
    Chester (May) Gunzelman,
    Youngstown, and Mrs. Earl
    (Dorothy) Britton, Town of Niagara;
    one son, George Tucker,
    Town of Niagara; four sisters,
    Mrs. Albert Kandioto,
    and Mrs. George Piror, both
    of New Castle, Pa., Mrs. William
    Ball, Pontiac,; Mich., and
    Mrs. Henry Roney, Downingtown,
    Pa.; seven grandchildren,
    and 11 great grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held
    Monday at 2 p.m. at the Lane
    Funeral Home, with Rev. William
    J. Devine, pastor of Town
    of Niagara United Presbyterian
    . Church, officiating. Burial
    will be in Acacia Park Cemetery.
    Friends may call from
    2 p.m. to 5. p.m. and 7 p.m. to
    9 p.m. today, Saturday and
    Sunday.
