    Viola W. Witkop (nee Frieling), age 99, of North Tonawanda, died July 13, 2009, in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church (Old Falls Blvd.), the Women of St. Paul and the Friendship Club.She was the wife of the late Frederick W. Witkop, who died in 1984. Beloved mother of Marlene (William) Leal of Lincoln, CA, Kathleen (Jonathan) Brauer of North Tonawanda and Thomas (Jacqueline) Witkop of Baiting Hollow, Long Island. Grandmother of Kierstin (Donald), John, Rebecca (Robert Jr.), David (Lisa), Susan (Jeremy) and Thomas Jr.; and seven great-grandchildren.     William J. Witkop, 75, died suddenly in his home, 27 Stenzel St., after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Witkop, a native of Tonawanda, had lived in North Tonawanda 40 years. Survivors include his widow, Julia, nee Heuer; two daughters, Mrs. Bernhardt Moll and Mrs. Albert Jendrian; two sons, Frederick and William J. Jr.; 10 grandchildren, all of North Tonawanda; two brothers, Albert of Tonawanda, August of Pekin, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Strassburg, North Tonawanda. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St., and at 2:30 p.m. in the St. Marks’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Fretthold will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery.

    Mr. and Mrs. William Witkop
    of 27 Stenzel Street were pleasantly
    surprised last evening by
    large number of relatives and
    friends the occasion being their
    fortieth wedding anniversary.
    The Rev. Louis Heuer of Bergholtz,
    brother of Mrs. Witkop,
    gave an appropriate talk appro
    priate to the occasion. The evening

    was spent in playing games.
    Four children and five grandchildren
    of the couple were present.
    The children are Mrs. Bernard
    Moll, Mrs. Ruth Ziehm, William
    Witkop and Fred Witkop.
    Mrs. Phillip Schultz of Niagara
    Falls, was one of the guests. She
    was a bridesmaid at the wedding
    which took place in St. Johns
    church, St. Johnsburg in 1899.

    was served to thirty-two guests.
