    Services for Ruth Clara Arthurs of East Aurora, a homemaker, were held last month in Niagara Falls and Ohio. She was buried in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Chagrin Falls, OH.

    Born Ruth Binkley in Niagara Falls, she died Feb. 23 at the home of a daughter, Lynn Fischer, in East Aurora, after a short battle with cancer. She was 84.

    She was a graduate of LaSalle High School in Niagara Falls and attended Michigan State University. She married her high school sweetheart, Stanley Arthurs, also a student at Michigan State.

    After college, the couple lived in the Cleveland area, most of the time in the suburb of Solon, where their nine children were born and raised.

    She was an active member of Valley Lutheran Church in Chagrin Falls and Our Redeemed Lutheran Church in Solon, where she was a Sunday school teacher and played the organ. She also directed and sang in the church's choirs.

    Mrs. Arthurs and her husband had lived for the last three years with their daughter in East Aurora.

    Survivors include her husband of 64 years; two other daughters, Kim Gallagher of Kent, OH, and Gail of Orchard Park; five sons, Lee of Big Canoe, Ga., Jay of Saratoga, Calif., Bruce of Pleasanton, Calif., Kent of Stretsboro, OH, and Paul of Mountain Ranch, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

    John J. Russ, 82, River Rd.,
    Wheatfield, who rose- from the job
    of handyman at the Carbor-
    undum Co. here to president and
    board chairman of N a t i o n a l
    Grinding Wheel Co.. North Ton-
    awanda. died yesterday (May 28,.
    1957) at his home. He had been in
    ill health for several months.
    Born here Dec. 17. 1874, Mr.
    Russ joined Carborundum in 1896
    as a laborer and climbed rapidly,
    to a managerial position. He is
    credited with making many im-.
    provements in early g r i n d i ng
    wheel manufacture.
    He went to Dusseldorf, Germany,
    in 1907 to supervise wheel
    operations and train new employes
    for Carborundum's Ger-
    man plant. _ •
    Mr. Russ left Carborundum in
    1923 to reorganize the National
    Grinding Wheel Co. which then
    operated in Buffalo. When the
    plant was moved to North Tonawanda
    in 1929, he was elected
    president. He. became chairman
    of the company in 1951 and con-
    tinued active in management until
    his recent illness.
    Mr. Russ was a long time leader
    in civic affairs in the village
    of LaSalle before its incorporation
    into the city of Niagara Falls
    in 1927. He was a member of
    the village board of trustees, president
    of the village and a member
    of the LaSalle school board.
    Mr. Russ was one of the founders
    of the Carborundum Employes'
    Benefit Assn. in 1898. •
    He was predeceased by his
    wife, the former Fredericka Mellenthin.
    Survivors are Miss Clara
    M. Russ. who lived with her father,
    Mrs. George P. Eddy, this
    city, and three sons, Frederick W.,
    John T. and Arthur A. Russ, all
    of North Tonawanda.
    He is'also survived by a brother,
    Peter J. Russ, Detroit: two
    sisters, Mrs. Frank H. Taylor,
    this city, and Mrs. Harry Walters,
    Lake Worth, Fla., seven grandchildren
    and 12 great grandchildren.
    He was a member of LaSalle
    Zion Lutheran Church, now
    Grace Lutheran Church;
    Funeral services will be held
    at the home Friday at 1 p.m. and
    at Redeemer Lutheran Church,
    Fajcsner and T h o m p s o n Sts.,
    North Tonawanda, at 1:30 p.m.
    The Rev. H. G. Kleiner, pastor,
    of the church, will officiate. Burial
    will be in Oakwood Cemetery
    here.
    The family said contributions
    to the DeGraff Memorial Hospital
    fund will be acceptable as
    tributes.

    Mrs. Friederlcka Russ. 69, of the
    River road, town of Wheatfleld, collapsed
    and died of a heart attack In
    Bennett street, North Tonawanda,
    at 8 o'clock last evening. She was
    the wife of John J. Russ. president
    of the National Grinding Wheel
    company, of the Walck road and
    Erie avenue, North Tonawanda.
    She was returning from a shopping
    trip at Niagara Falls and was walking
    from the bus in Payne avenue
    when she was stricken. She as on
    her way to the home of her son,
    John T. Russ, 413 Evans street,
    North Tonawanda, for dinner.
    Bom in Germany.Mrs. Russ had
    lived in Niagara Fells since coming
    to America st the age of seven, with
    the exception of the past two years
    during which she and her husband
    resided in the River road.
    Mr. Russ is in Miami Beach, Florida,
    where his wife planned to join
    him as soon aa she was able to secure
    plane reservations. Mr. Russ in
    former years was an official of the
    Carborundum company here but
    started his own abrasive plant in
    North Tonawanda several eyars ago.
    Besides her husband and son,
    John. Mrs. Russ is survived by two
    Other sons, Frederick W. and Arthur
    A. Ruse, of North Tonavanda; two
    daughters. Clara, at borne, arid Mrs.
    George P. Eddy, of Niagara Falls,
    six grandchildren and.one great
    grandchild.•
    Mrs. Ruas was a member of the
    Zion Evangelical Lutheran church,
    Cayuga drive, this city, and the
    Ladies Aid society of. the church.
    Funeral services will be held at
    the family home in River road with
    interment- in Oakwood cemetery.
    The time of the rites has not been
    fixed pending the arrivad of Mr.
    Russ, who is flying here from Flori--
    da.

    Wah Binkley, one of the oldest
    residents of Niagara county, died at
    his home on the Mile Line road, In
    the Town of Niagara, last night at the
    age of 87 years. Mr. Binkley was born
    in Washington, Lancaster county. Pa.,
    November 10th, 1822 and came to
    this city 52 years ago. He settled
    in what is now Pine avenue, about a
    mile east of the city line, and lived
    there until his death.
    He is survived by two daughters
    and eight sons, Herman G., Uriah E.,
    Albright, Kate L., Willie and
    A Wilder, also one sister, Mrs. h. H.
    Witmer, of Goshen, Ind.; and two
    brothers, John H. Binkley of LaSalle
    and David H. Binkley, of Long Beach,
    Cal. The funeral will be held from
    his late residence Sunday afternoon at
    1:30 o'clock,m under direction of Quinn
    and Reardon.

    Mr. Russ was one of the pioneers
    of N i a g a r a Falls. He was born in
    W u r t e n b u r g , Germany, and came to
    N i a g a r a in 1866 where he has since
    made his home. He was in the emp
    l o y of the New York Central for
    m a n y years and was retired twelve
    y e a r s apo on a pension in recognition
    of his w o r t h as a mechanic. He celeb
    r a t e d his golden wedding annivers
    a r y J u n e 27 last. He was one of the
    o r g a n i z e r s of Trinity Lutheran
    c h u r c h . He had lived for 39 y e a r s in
    t h e house in which he ..passed away.
    He leaves t h i r t e e n g r a n d c h i l d r e n and
    two g r e a t - g r a n d c h i l d r e n.

    Mrs. Barbara Russ, 74 years old,
    widow of John Russ, died at 7
    o'clock this morning at the family
    home. No. 1601 Whirlpool street.
    She had been ill a year. Mrs. Russ
    was born In Wurtemburg, Germany,
    and came to this country, settling in
    this city 53 years ago. Practically
    all of .her residence in this city was
    spent in, the neighborhood In which
    she lived at the time of her death.
    She held the confidence and esteem
    of- a wide circle of friends and was
    beloved for her many admirable
    qualities.
    For many years a member of the
    Trinity Lutheran church, Cleveland
    avenue, Mrs. Russ wa.s active In the
    Interests and affairs of that congregation.
    She is survived by three
    sons, Johns Russ of La Salle, former
    La Salle village president, and William
    and Peter Russ, both of this
    city; two daughters, Mrs. Frank
    Taylor and Mrs. Charlotte Taylor
    of Niagara Fails, a brother In St.
    Paul, Minn., and a sister In Germany.
    The funeral will be held on Sunday
    afternoon at 2 o'clock from the
    home and. a t 2:30 o'clock from the
    Trinity Lutheran church, the Rev.
    M. C. Kertzman officiating. Burial
    will be in the family plot in Oakwood
    cemetery.

    Whirlpool street celebrated- their
    golden wedding anniversary at a
    dinner party at the home of their
    daughter, Mrs. Frank Taylor of No.
    714 Linwood avenue. on Tuesday
    evening. The color scheme of the
    decorations was gold and white, carried
    out with quantities of yellow
    and white roses. Mr. a nd Mrs. Russ
    were presented with a purse of gold.
    The guests consisted of the immediate
    family, three sons and two daughters
    and their families. Mr. John Russ
    of. La Salle, Mr. Peter Russ of Linwood
    avenue and Mr. William Russ
    pt; Spring street. Mrs. Frank Taylor
    of Linwood avenue and Mrs. George
    Taylor of Chicago were -the sons and
    daughters present at the dinner
    party. Mr. and Mrs. Russ were
    born in Wurtemburg, Germany, and
    came to this country at different
    times during their early youth. They
    were married at the German Lutheran
    church in this city 50 years ago and
    have made their, home here for the
    past 40 years.
