April 11, at Lockport Memorial
Hospital. She leaves to daughters.
Mrs. Robert H. Bell, of Lockport,
and Mrs. Kenneth Hal!. Cincinnati.
Ohio; four sons, Roy L., of
Lockport, Warren F., Hartland,
N. Y., Lester C, of Clarence
Center, N. Y., and John Jr., of
Raymond Hill; 13 grandchildren,
and 18 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the home of
John Bars Jr., Beattie Ave., Raymond
Hill beginning Sunday from
2 to S and 7 to 10 p.m. where
funeral Services will be held
Tuesday, April 14, at 2 p.m. In-
terment in Hartland Central
Cemetery. Arrangements by
Bream and Lange Funeral Home.

Mr. and Mrs. John Bars, RD 3 Lockport,^who spent their
childhoods in log cabins in Western New York. Monday marked
the 50th anniversary of their wedding. In honor ol the occa-
sion, they were entertained at a surprise iamily dinner party at
Park Hotel Saturday evening attended by 32 persons
This is the third golden wedding
observed in recent years in Mr
Bars' family.
For the past quarter of a cen-
tury the oouple has resided at
their 196-acre farm at Raymond
Hill.
Mrs. Bars, the former Elizabeth
Altro. daughter of Mr. and Mrs
Fred Altro, was born in the Town
of Clarence. When she was six
months old, she moved to a log
cabin in the Kinne Road.
At the age of 13, Mrs. bars fam-
ily settled on a neighboring farm
and she remained there until her
marriage by the Rev. S. E. Way.
Erie County Native
Mr. Bars was born in a log cab.n
in the Town of Newstead.- Erie
County, and moved to Niagara
County at the age of nine, where
he attended a district school. He
is still active as a successful
farmer.
"The log cabin was town down
shortly after we moved," Mrs. Bars
said, as she vividly recalled the
crowded conditions in the two -room
hut for the family fo four, and her
daily two-mile hike to the district
school.
"The most noticeable change I
have seen through the years is in
farm machinery. When I was a
child, I remember my father work-
ing the land with wooden imple-
ments, drawn by horses."
Farming Family
Both Mr. and Mrs. Bars parents
were lifelong farmers. Their grand-
parents were natives of Germany.
After their marriage, the couple
moved to the Town of Royalton.
They have six children: Mrs.
Robert Bell, Transit Road; Mrs.
Edward Wartman, Cincinnati, O.;
Roy and John Bars, Town of Lock-
port; Warren Bars, Gasport RD 1;
Lester Bars, Clarence Center.
Mrs. Bars had a brother, Clarence
Altro, living at Gasport RD. Her
husband has four sisters:
Mrs. William Dietz, Newstead;
Mrs. Fred Cable, 127 Spalding St.;
Mrs. William Seigler, Newfane;
Mrs. DeForest Klutts, Middleport.
