    Memorial services were held
    last Saturday in St. Matthews
    United Church of Christ, with
    the Rev. Gene Prostek, pastor,
    officiating for Norman L. Benning
    of Maple Avenue who
    died Mar. 30 in his 63rd year.
    A Bethlehem Steel Corporation
    industrial engineer, Mr.
    Benning was a member of St.
    Matthew's Church and Fraternal
    Lodge 625 F & A M which
    conducted memorial rites
    prior to funeral services.
    Surviving are his wife, the
    former Ruth Stein; two
    d a u g h t e r s , Mrs. Susan
    Eckhardt of Skaneateles and
    Karen Benning of West Falls;
    and two grandchildren, Andrew
    and Benjamin Eckhardt.
    Arrangements were by the
    W. L. Froehley Funeral Home
    on Lake Street.

    Christ, 5289 McKinley Pkwy.,
    Hamburg, for Ruth S. Stein Benning,
    86, of Hamburg, who died
    Friday, Jan. 20, 2006.
    Wife of the late Norman L.
    Benning, she is survived by her
    daughters, Susan (Wayne) Eckhardt
    and Karen A. Benning;
    and grandsons, Andrew J. and
    Benjamin J. Eckhardt.
    She was predeceased by her parents,
    Charles and Bertha Stein.
    Mrs. Benning was a graduate
    of Bryant & Stratton Business
    Institute, and was a member of
    the Order of the Eastern Star and
    St. Matthew's U.C.C.
    Memorials may be made to the
    church or the SPCA. Arrangements
    made by Froehley Dengler

    The marriage -of Miss Ruth
    Anita Stein, daughter of Mr. and
    Mrs. Charles 'Stein, to Norman
    Lawrence Benning, son of Mrs.
    Alice Benning of Niagara Falls,
    N. .Y., took place last Saturday
    evening, at St Jamea* Church
    here. The Rev. P. Walter Meisenheimer,
    pastor of the church, performed
    the double ring ceremony.
    The bride proceeded down the
    candlelit aisle escorted by her
    father. She wore a gown of mousseline
    de soie velveray, fashioned
    with a high shadow neckline, long
    sleeves and fitted^!>odicev Her
    full skirt terminated in a chapel
    length circular train and her fingertip
    length veil of bridal illusion,
    which fell from a tiara of orange
    blossoms, was edged in lace. The
    bridal bouquet was of white
    roses, carnations, gypsophelia, and
    sweetpeas with a center of gardenias.
    Mrs. Virginia Davis sang
    a group of solos before and during
    the service.
    Miss Pearl Buggenhagen was
    maid of honor and the bridesmaids
    were Miss Hazel Bastian and Miss
    Catherine Boehle. Their gowns
    were made alike, of aqua velvaray
    for the honor attendant and maize
    yellow for the others. They all
    carried colonial shower bouquets
    made with rows of ruffled maline
    among the flowers and showers
    of satin ribbon to which were tied
    bits of fern, daisies or sweet peas.
    All wore headbands of rosebuds.
    Kenneth Groll of Clarence,
    N. Y., was best man for the bridegroom,
    who had as his ushers,
    Paul Fries of Buffalo, Allen Hock
    and Donald Hock, his cousins and
    Donald Minekime.
    The bride's mother wore an
    aqua sheer crepe dress with lace
    trim. Her accessories were black
    and she wore a corsage of pastel
    flowers. The mother of the bridegroom
    was in a grey and white
    print dress with which she wore a
    grey hat and white accessories.
    Pink roses predominated in her
    corsage.
    A reception was held at the
    Community Center immediately
    after the ceremony. There the receiving
    room was decorated with
    great baskets of varicolored flowers
    and chairs were grouped here
    and there. A four tiered bridal
    cake, flanked with tall white candles
    and bowls of white flowers,
    provided a center piece for the
    serving table.
    Miss Sally Lou Mohr, Miss
    Thelma Bastian and Miss Marie
    Boehle served refreshments to the
    guests.
    The bride wore for traveling a
    dress of Madelaine rose crepe with
    white accessories and corsage of
    white roses. After, a motor trip
    through the New England states
    and parts of Canada, Mr. Benning
    and his bride will be at home
    on River Road, Niagara Falls,
    N. Y.
    Out of town guests at the wedding
    included Mr. and Mrs. Howard
    Marx of Chicago, Ill., and
    their son, Wesley, and Mr. and
    Mrs. Claude Starr of Erie, Pa.

    Benning of Maple Ave. were
    honored by their children at an
    Open House at their home last
    Sunday on the occasion of
    their 35th Wedding Anniversary.
    Mr. Benning and the former
    Ruth Stein were married June
    28, 1947 in St. James United
    Church of Christ here.
    Mr. Benning has been with
    the industrial engineering
    department at Bethlehem
    Steel for 29 years and will
    retire this fall.
    Hosts for the affair were Dr.
    and Mrs. Wayne A. Eckhardt
    of Skaneateles, and Karen A.
    Benning ofwest Falls.
    Members of the original
    wedding party who attended
    were Mrs. Maurice Emerling,
    Mrs. Hazel Abbott, Mrs.
    William R. Wendel Mr. Alan
    Hock and Mr. Paul Fries.
    Out of town guests were
    Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bateford of
    Indiana, Penns.

    Funeral services were held Saturday
    from the W. L. Froehley
    Funeral Home for Alice Groll
    Benning of Newton Rd., who died
    July 17 in her 70th year. The Rev.
    P. W. Meisenheimer officiated.
    Mrs. Benning was a member of
    the Hamburg Senior Citizens
    Club. She was the wife of the
    late Lawrence J. Benning and the
    mother of Norman L. Benning
    and the sister of William H. Groll
    of Clarence. She is also survived
    by two grandchildren.
