    of 7 Fremont St. Tonawanda, Sat-
    urday evening (July 28, 1956) in
    DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a
    long illness. Born in Buffalo, he
    had lived in Tonawanda 34 years.
    He was a member of Salem Evan-
    gelicall and Reformed Church and
    was a past master of Tonawanda
    Lodge 247 F&AM. He also was a
    member of the Erie County Past
    Masters Assn.,, the Erie County
    Wardens Assn.,, National Fedr-
    ated Craft 131 of Niagara Falls,
    Tonawanda Chapter 278 R&AM,
    the Twin Cities Rifle, Revolver and
    Pistol Club, and the Masonic bowl-
    ing team. He was an employe of
    the U.S.. Customs Service for 30
    years and a member of the Cus-
    toms Assn. and the National Cus-
    toms Service Assn. Surviving are
    his wife, Alice J., (nee Ens-
    minger); three daughters, Mrs.
    Robert (Jean) Hutchinson and
    Mrs. Wallace (Alice) Helwig, both
    of North Tonawanda, and Mrs..
    Bernard (Ruth) Ross of Grand Is-
    land; a son, Robert of North Ton-
    anwanda; eight grandchildren, and
    a brother, Howard G. of Bangor,
    Maine. Friends may call at Hil-
    liard Funeral Home, 147 Delaware
    St.,, where services will be at 2
    p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Walter F.
    Hetzel officiating. Buriall will be in
    Elmlawn Cemetery. Msonic serv-
    ices will be at 8 p.m. Monday in
    the funeral home.

    service at Salem Evangelical
    Church on Saturday, September 7
    at 7:80 p. m Mias Alice Brush
    daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. A
    Brush, and Wallace Helwig, aon
    of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Helwig
    were united in marriage. The Rev
    Walter Hetzel officiated at the
    double ring ceremony before the
    altar which was adorned with
    white gladioli.
    The bride, given in marriage by
    her father, was lovely in a gown
    of white satin with long pointed
    sleeves and a court length train
    Her finger tip vet' fell from a
    headdress of orange blossoms and
    she carried white roses and pompoms
    tied with white satin ribbon
    Mrs. Ruth Ross, sister of the
    bride and matron of honor, was
    attired in aqua brocaded satin
    She wore yellow pompoms in her
    hair and carried yellow roses and
    white pompoms.
    Attending as bridesmaids were
    Mrs. Jean Hutchinson, sister of
    the bride; Mrs. Betty Helwig and
    Miss Delores Camp. All wow
    gowns of orchid brocaded satin
    with floral headpieces of white
    pompoms and carried red roses
    and white pompoms.
    Warren Helwig, brother of the
    bridegroom, attended as best mar
    and the ushers were Robert Hut
    chinson, Bernard Bossv and Rob
    ert Brush, brother of the bride.
    A reeeptioit for one hundred
    guests followed the ceremony in
    Labor Hall.
    For traveling the bride chose a
    blue gabardine suit with match
    ing accessories. Mr. and Mrs. Hel
    wig are now at home in 237 Main street,
    Tonawanda

    BRUSH - Samuel S. Brush, 84,
    of 7 Fremont St., Tonawanda,
    Wednesday evening (Dec. 7, 1955)
    in a Niagara Falls nursing home
    after a long illness. Born in Crawford
    Co., Pa., Mr. Brush had lived
    in this area for 65 years. He was
    formerly the custodian of the National
    Gypsum building's in Buffalo
    and was a journeyman blacksmith
    for about 40 years. Mr. Brush's
    survivors are two sons, Thomas A.
    of Tonawanda and Howard G. of
    Orrington, Me.; five grandchildren,
    and six great grandchildren.
    Friends may call at the Hilliard
    Funeral Home, where services will
    be at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the
    Rev. W. F. Hetzel officiating.
    Burial in Elmlawn Cemetery.

    away this morning at her home,
    570 Delaware avenue, Buffalo,
    leaving her husband, Samuel, two
    sons, Thomas A. of Tonawanda
    and Howard G. of Grosse Point
    Mich.; one brother, William Snyder
    of Youngstown, Ohio; three
    sisters, Mrs. Frank Haag of Buffalo,
    Mrs. Robert MacPhail and
    Mrs. Frank Ellis of Tacoma, Wash.,
    and five grand-children. Friends
    may call at Milliard funeral home,
    147 Delaware street, Tonawanda.
    The funeral will be held Thursday
    at 2 pan. with the Rev. V. S. Mumbulo
    of Asbury-Delaware Methodist
    church, Buffalo, officiating.
    Burial will he in Elmlawn cemetery.

    Mrs. Philip Ensminger, wife of a pioneer farmer
    of this area, is to celebrate her 90th birthday Sunday
    with members of her family.
    Hostess for the occasion, will be
    one of her -granddaughters. Mrs.
    Kenneth Stryker, 47 Canton St.,
    another granddaughter. Mrs. Robert
    Hutchinson is baking the birthday
    cake.
    Mrs. Ensminger's late husband
    owned a large tract of land in
    the Military and Ensminger R,
    section, of what is now the Town
    of Tonawanda and at: that, time was
    within the limits of Tona-
    wanda. Ensminger Rd- was named
    for the family, Mr. Ensminger
    died about, 20 years ago.
    At the time of her marriage
    and early married life, farms
    abounded in this section of the
    Frontier and Mrs. Ensminger,
    over the years, watched the
    changes irom the rural tone to
    the present residential and indus-
    trial theme.
    Mrs. Ensminger, the former
    Julia Klingenschmitt, was born
    in Wendelville, July 28, 1868 and
    was married in 1893. She and the
    late Philip Ensminger were the
    parents of five daughters.
    Mrs. Louis Scheid, Kenmore.
    .Mrs. Thomas Brush and Mrs.
    William. Breitenbach, both
    Tonawanda; Mrs. Walter Radant,
    Gasport; and Miss Margaret Ens-
    minger, who lives with her moth-
    er in 1850 Miitary Rd. She has
    nine grand children and 15 great
    grandchildren. the family still
    celebrates Christmas "at grand-
    ma's."
    Because of progressively failing
    eyesight, Mrs. Ensminger identi-
    fied member of the family large-
    ly through their voices. An acid
    radio fan, she listens to the stor-
    ies and for the latest new items
    on the radio and television. She
    enjoys vacations and traveling by
    car and is active and alert to the
    world and people around her.
    She tells her children and grand-
    children "they have it easy" i
    their homes, in comparison to the
    "old days" and she rejoices with
    the conveniences available to the
    modern housewife.
    Her "party" will begin at noon
    with a buffet luncheon. In the aft-
    ernoon Mrs. Ensminger will re-
    count family stories for the fami-
    lies to make her birthday another
    full and eventful day in her long
    life.
