SANBORN - Rudolph J. Kroening, 64, of Fair View Drive, a member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. for 38 years, died in Erie County Medical Center Tuesday (April 7, 1987).
The lifelong resident of Sanborn was the son of the late Phillip and Minnie (Pfohl) Kroening.
He was a self-employed truck driver for 40 years and for the past year drove for the Buffalo Fuel Corp. He was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Laymen's League, and was treasurer and assistant bingo chairman of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. He was a former member of the Sanborn Band and a member of the Niagara County Volunteer Firemen's Association.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Gombert) Kroening; sons, Arthur, Hartley, Darryl and Stephen Kroening of Wheatfield;. daughters, Mrs. John (Eileen) Gieseler and Naomi Kroening of Wheatfield; a brother, Herman Kroening of Sanborn; a sister, Mrs. Donald (Esther) Schneck of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren.
Friends may call today and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz, where the Sanborn Fire Co. will hold services at 8 p.m. Thursday.
The Rev. Stephen P. Roehrs will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz. Burial will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery. Contributions to the church are acceptable as tribute.

Lorraine C. Kroening, 73, of Bridgeman Road, a longtime member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) in the CrestWood Health Care Center, Wheatfield, after a brief illness.
The former Lorraine Gombert was born in North Tonawanda. She was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Wheatfield Senior Citizens, and the Sanborn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. In addition, she had attended the DeGraff Adult Day Care Center since 1993. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards.
Her husband, Rudolph J., died in 1987.
Survivors include four sons, Arthur, Hartley and Darryl, all of Wheatfield, and Stephen of Lewiston; two daughters, Eileen Gieseler of Wheatfield and Naomi Kroening of Lewiston; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Luther Street and Niagara Road, Bergholz. Burial will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery, Bergholz

SANBORN - Philip W. Kroening, 80, of 3056 Lockport Rd., died Saturday at the Niagara Falls Medical Center after a short illness. He operated a farm for the last 50 years on Lockport Rd. and since 1939 had operated a saw mill there also. Survivors include his wife, Minnie; two sons Rudolph of Niagara Falls and Herman of here; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Esther) Schneck of Wappingers Falls; a sister Mrs. Albert (Elizabeth) Haseley of Niagara Falls and nine grandchildren. The Rev. Harold L. Baum will officiate at services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church here. Burial will be in the church cemetery. SANBORN - Mrs. Minnie Kroening, 79, of 3056 Lockport Road died Wednesday (Jan. 3, 1979) in Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
A lifelong resident of Sanborn, she was a longtime member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore and a member of the American Lutheran Church Woman of St. Peter's. She was predeceased by her husband Philip W. Kroening, who died in 1972.
Survivors include two sons, Rudolph Kroening of Niagara Falls and Herman Kroening of Sanborn; daughter, Mrs. Donald (Esther) Schneck of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; two brothers, Max and Louis Pfohl both of Sanborn; four sisters, Mrs. Jonas (Martha) Haseley, Mrs. Mervin (Verone) Haseley, Mrs. Marcus (Lizzie) Haseley, Mrs. Raymond (Eleonore) Craft, all of Sanborn, nine grandchildren five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Sigmund and John Pfohl.
Funeral services will be a held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

Arthur F. Gombert, 56, died Monday in Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital after a short illness. A lifelong resident of the Town of Wheatfield, Mr. Gombert was a member of The Lutheran Laymens' League, St. Johnsburg Fire Company and was director of the Sanborn Band. Surviving are his wife, Clara, nee Ingwerson, a daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Kroening, a grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Benjamin Wittkop, Mrs. Elmer Mielke, Pekin, Mrs. Edward Moll, St. Johnsburgh. Services will be Thursday in the family residence in Niagara Rd. at 2 p.m. and in Holy Ghost Church at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Victor Dahlke will officiate. Burial in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery.

WHEATFIELD -- Funeral services will be held Wednesday for Clara B. Gombert, 79, of 2554 Wurl St., who died unexpectedly Sunday (Jan. 28, 1973) in Memorial Medical Center. Services will be held at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Albert W. Bahr officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery. Mrs. Gombert was a member of the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Ladles Aid Society and the Women's Missionary League and Town of Wheatfield Senior Citizens. The wife of the late Arthur Gombert, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Rudolph (Lorraine) Kroening of Wheatfield: one sister, Mrs. Elsie Stenzel of Wheatfield, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1311 Oliver St.. at Ward Rd, North Tonawanda, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and until noon Wednesday. Sanborn Resident Dies
SANBORN, Mar. 24.-August Kroening died today at the family home here. Funeral services will be held from the home on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 from St. Peter's church at Walmore. Interment will be in Walmore cemetery, Mr. Kroening is survived by his wife, Augusta (sic) two sons and two daughters, Mrs. Anton Haseley of Niagara Falls, Philip and Mrs. Albert Haseley of Sanborn, and Albert at home; one brother, William, of Sanborn, and ten grandchildren

Served many years on church council, sang in choir, assisted the pastor by reading sermons in services occasionally. In 1915, was a member of building committee for the present church building; good health all his life. Was in church last Sunday of his life. Survivors: 4 sons, Sigmund, John (in WI. is an A. L. C. pastor, ordained in 1928). WALMORE June 21 - The funeral of Mrs John Pfohl, 70, of the Walmore Road was held held Tuesday afternoon at St Peter's Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband John and nine children, Rev. John Pfohl of North Freedom. Wisc. Sigmund Pfohl, Niagara Falls. Mrs. Philip Kroening. Mrs Jonas Haseley. Mrs. Marcus Haseley, all of Sanborn. Louis, Max, Eleonore and Mrs. Mervin Haseley, at home. The bearers were Hubert Pfohl, Rudolf Walck, William Walck, Philip Haseley, Eric Haseley, and Harvey Haseley. The flower bearers were Rudolph Kroening, Herman Kroening, Esther Kroening and John Haseley. The Rev. Edward Grabau officiated. Burial was in Walmore cemetery.
