    RALPH RUSSELL DEVANTIER

    Of Youngstown entered his heavenly home on February 9, 2023 with his family by his side.  He was born to Barney and Louise (Klute) DeVantier in Niagara Falls, NY on July 22, 1933 and attended St. James Lutheran School and LaSalle High School.
    He completed his Carpenter’s Apprenticeship in 1958 and was very proud to be a Carpenter Foreman on the building of the Niagara Power Project.
    He established Ralph R. DeVantier Building Company in 1951.
    Ralph served two years in the US Army in Germany.
    He was a charter member of the Town of Wheatfield Lions Club, serving as both President and Secretary. He also received the highest honor for a Lion, the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He  served as the Town of Wheatfield Building Inspector, Past-President of ARC (now Intandem), and various positions at both St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholtz and Messiah Lutheran Church in Lewiston.
    Ralph’s true passion was his family retreat and hunting camp in Canisteo. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.
    He and Joan really enjoyed traveling; especially trips to Germany during Oberammergau, the Passion Play of Christ.
    Ralph was the husband of 42 years to  the late Gladys (Walck), who predeceased him and he was blessed to marry Joan (Small) in 2000.  In addition to his wife,  he is survived by his children Duane (Debbie) DeVantier, Kent (Cindy) DeVantier, Sandy Retzlaff, Bruce (Kim) DeVantier and Amy (Jamie) Bessel, Ann (Jordan) Taylor, Cindy (Paul) Dollahite and Steven (Sybille Schubert) Small,  grandchildren Amanda (Erik) Holmstrom, Justin (Ashley Bower) DeVantier , Jacob (Alexa) DeVantier, Courtney Retzlaff, Devyn DeVantier (Keith Hingle), David (Samantha Epps) DeVantier, Danielle DeVantier, Lily Bessel, Claire Dollahite and James Dollahite and 4 great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Henry, Lily and Erik, a sister Elaine DeVantier and sister-in-law Helen DeVantier.
    He was the brother of the late June (Fremont) Ferchen and the  Rev. Glenn DeVantier.
    His family will be present on Monday from 3-8 PM at RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY.
    Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 915 Oneida Street, Lewiston, NY, with the  Rev. Timothy Anas officiating.
    Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be  made in his name to Messiah Lutheran Church or the Town of Wheatfield Lions Club.
    Interment with Military Honors in White Chapel Memorial Park.

    WHEATFIELD - Gladys M. (Walck) DeVantier, 62, of Lockport Road,. died Wednesday (June 24, 1998) m Buffalo General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
    She was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Wheatfield, the daughter of William and Selma (Walck) Walck.
    She had lived in the Sanborn area her entire life, attending local schools and graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1954. Mrs. DeVantier worked for the former Kimberly-Clark Corp. from 1954 to 1958, and later was a courier for the MDS Lab for six years.
    She married Ralph DeVantier on Nov. 3, 1956. She worked at his construction company as a bookkeeper and secretary for 37 years.
    She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Lewiston, and the Wheatfield Jaycees. She also had been active with the Niagara County 4H Program for many years.
    Mrs. DeVantier enjoyed gardening, bowling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
    In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Sandra Retzlaff of Sanborn and Amy Bessel of Niagara Falls; three sons, Duane DeVantier of North Tonawanda, Kent DeVantier of Cleveland and Bruce DeVantier of Lewiston; one brother, Edgar Walck of Sanborn; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was the sister of the late Irma Haseley.
    Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Friday at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn. The Rev. Milan J. Slahor will conduct services at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, 915 Oneida Street, Lewiston. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst.

    Gladys M. DeVantier, 62, of Lockport Road, a native of Wheatfield and lifelong resident of the Sanborn area, died Wednesday (June 24, 1998) in Buffalo General Hospital after a long illness.

    BERNARD DeVANTIER
    WHEATFIELD - Bernard G. (Barney) DeVantier, 74, of 2266 Niagara Road, died today (August 23, 1971) in Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. A native of the Town of Wheatfield he was employed as a millwright at the Carborundum Co. for 42 years. He retired in 1962. For the past 19 years he was active in tourism as owner and operator of the DeVantier's Motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard. Mr. DeVantier was a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bergholtz. He served as a trustee on the church council and as a member of the building committee. Surviving are his widow, Louise (Klute) DeVantier; two daughters, Mrs. Fremont (June) Ferchen of Sanborn and Elaine DeVantier of Resida, Calif.; two sons, the Rev. Glenn DeVantier of Warren, Mich. and Ralph DeVantier of Sanborn; four brothers.     Louise A. DeVantier, 94, owner of the DeVantier Motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard for 20 years, died Monday (June 20, 1994) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda.
    The former Louise A. Klute was born in Horeb, WI., and came to this area in 1916. She worked at the former Bell Aircraft Co. for seven years during the 1950s.
    She had been a resident of North Gate Manor Nursing Home since 1987.
    She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz, and the Women of the Church.
    Her husband, Bernhard, died in 1971.
    Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Glenn B. of Warren, Mich., and Ralph R. of Sanborn; two daughters, Elaine J. of Spokane, Wash., and June Ferchen; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

    Was Lifelong Resident of Bergholtz Vicinity.
    BERGHOLTZ, Dec. 11-Albert F. DeVantier, 77 years old, a lifelong and well known resident of the Town of Wheatfield, died yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herbert Stenzel, of the Niagara Falls boulevard. Mr. DeVantier was formerly engaged in farming, having retired about 12 years ago. He was a member of St. James church and in former years took an active interest in church and social affairs in Bergholtz.
    He is survived by six sons, Hugo, Harold and John, of Bergholtz, Edward and Bernard, of Niagara Falls, and Alfred, of Sanborn; five daughters. Mrs. John Voelker, of Buffalo, Mrs. Stenzel. of Bergholtz, Mrs. William Groening (sic), Jr., and Mrs. John Blank, Jr., of Sanborn, and Mrs. Edward Mueller, of Niagara. Falls; 22 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. August Kroening, of Sanborn.
    The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Stenzel home and at 2:30 from St. James church, Bergholtz. The Rev. Otto Bruss will officiate and interment will be in St. James cemetery.

    Walmore, N. Y.-Mrs. Albertina W. Walck, 84, of this village, died this morning at the home of her son William A. Walck, in the Lockport road, after a long illness.
    Mrs. Walck was born in Walmore and had resided here all her life. She was a daughter of the late August Haseley and the late Henrietta Goerss, early settlers. She was the widow of William E. Walck. Mrs. Walk was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, of this village. In former years she was an active member of the women's organization of the church.
    Mrs. Walck is survived by four sons and two daughters, The Rev. Alfred W. Walck, of St. Paul MN., Rudolph C., William A., and Hubert E. Walck all of Sanborn, N. Y.; Mrs. John W. DeVantier of Niagara Falls, N. Y., and Mrs. Eric F. Haseley, of Sanborn, N. Y.; 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    The funeral will be held at the home of the son William A. Walck Sanborn, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock and 2:30 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Edward A. Grabau will officiate. Internment will be in the Walmore Cemetery

    SANBORN. Feb. 20. - The funeral
    service for Fred W. Walck, 80.
    of Saunders Settlement road, who
    died on Sunday at Buffalo, was held
    Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the family
    home and at 2:30 at St. Peter's
    church, Walmore road. The Rev,
    Martin Pempeit officiated. Interment
    was in Si. Peter's cemetery.
    Mr. Walck was a son of the
    late Fred and Albertina Zimmerman
    Walck and husband of the late
    Helena Muler Walck.
    He is survived by three daughters.
    Mrs. William Walck, Mrs. Elmer
    Kroening, Mrs. Martin Pfohl; two
    sons. Edward and Ervsin Walck: a
    brother. Benjamin Walck. and sister,
    Mrs. Augusta Retzlaff. all of
    Sanborn; also 21 grandchildren.
    The bearers included Arnold
    Walck. Gilbert Walck. Melvin
    Pfohl. Edgar Walck; John Kroening
    and Martin Kroening.
    After his marriage to Helena
    Mueller. Mr. Walck purchased the
    farm on Saunders Settlement road
    from the late A. M. Barber which
    he operated until a few years ago,
    when he retired and his son Erwin
    W'alck, took over the farm. Mrs.
    Walck died in 1932. Mr. W'alck was
    ap active member of St. Peter's
    church.
