Belle Plaine Union Aug 1962

Cyrus C. Ridenour, 89, died Monday afternoon, July 30, at the Plaine Crest nursing home, Belle Plaine. Mr. Ridenour had been in failing health for several years and cause of death was due to complications of old age.
Mr. Ridenour, the son of Cyrus and Sarah Ridenour, was born Oct. 26, 1872, in Iowa county near Belle Plaine. At the age of eight years he moved to Belle Plaine where he had since made his home. He attended the Belle Plaine schools. His occupation during his lifetime was during vacations and on Saturdays worked as a printer's devil at the Lever newspaper office operated by Myers. In 1890 he began working for the Chicago & North Western railroad as a machinist and specialist and became a machinist and then mechanical foreman. Before his retirement with 50 years of service in October, 1940, he was a roundhouse foreman and then general foreman. He was a member of the Belle Plaine fire department for 30 years. The family attended the Congregational church.
He was married in 1893 to Grace Brentlinger at the Congregational church in Belle Plaine and to this union nine children were born. Mrs. Ridenour preceded him in death in 1943 and four children, Mrs. Mary Cronbaugh, Nellie and Gayle and Charles Ridenour.
In 1954 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Gates, who survives. Also surviving are five children: Mrs. Alice Gerard, Mrs. Ruth McCarty, and Tom Ridenour, Pasadena, Calif.; James Ridenour, San Bernardino, Calif.; and Mrs. Carrie Cameron, El Monte, Calif.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. at Peffers funeral home, Belle Plaine. Rev. Louis Cronbaugh, Ladora, will officiate. Mrs. Grace Morek will be organist and Dick Gatrelle soloist. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery
