    LeRoy W. Garlapow, 93, of North Tonawanda Wednesday (March 14, 2012) in Medina Memorial Hospital. Roy was born in North Tonawanda on November 6, 1918 to William and Emma (Janowsky) Garlapow. Roy was a Army Veteran serving in WWII. He was a active member of Friedens Church where he sang in the chior. He retired as a stock clerk from Remington Rand. Leroy was predeceased by his sister and brother Marjorie (Raymond) Stevens, and Norman F. (Dorothy) Garlapow, he is survived by a nice Lind Beckenshal and many cousins. Burial was held in Friedends Cemetery.

    William Garlapow, 56, died this morning at his home, 463 Robinson, street, after a lingering illness. He was born in Germany and came to North Tonawanda to reside at the age of one. He leaves his wife, Emma; two sons, Norman and LeRoy; a daughter, Marjorie, all of North Tonawanda; a sister, Mrs. Alex Sutherland of Niagara Falls, and a brother, Gust of North Tonawanda. Rites will be held Monday afternoon at 2 oclock from the residence. The Rev. Theodore Mayer will officiate and burial will be in Friedens Cemetery.

    William Garlapow of 304 Fletcher street, a resident of Tonawanda for 53 years, died this morning in DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was born in Germany. He is survived by two sons, William Jr. and Gustave, both of North Tonawanda, and one daughter, Mrs. Alec Sutherland of Niagara Falls, and also by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from the Hamp funeral home, 31 Adam street, with the Rev Walter Hetzel officiating. Burial will be in Elmlawn.

    William Janowsky, Sr., died Nov. 1, 1947 in North Tonawanda. He was born in Germany 81 years ago, and was the husband of the late Gusta (nee Karkau) Janowsky. He was the father of Mrs. August Garlapo, William H. Janowsky, Jr., Mrs. Robert DeLacey, all of North Tonawanda, and the late Mrs. Emma Galapo. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive. Calls may be made at the home of his daughter, Mrs. August Garlapo, 375 Stanley street, North Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Friedens Evangelical Cemetery.

    MRS. AUGUSTA JANOWSKY DIES SUDDENLY FROM HEART ATTACK
    Mrs. Augusta Janowsky, 67, died suddenly late last night at her home, 384 Stanley street, following a brief heart attack. Until a few minutes before her death Mrs. Janowsky was conversing with members of her family and was apparently in the best of health. Born in Germany, Mrs. Janowsky had resided in North Tonawanda for the past 48 years. She was a member of the Frieden's church and the Ladies' Aid society and Martha Sewing circle of the church. Surviving are a husband William; three daughters, Miss Alvina Janowsky, Mrs. William Garlapow, and Mrs. Gustave Garlapow; a son, William H. Janowsky, six grandchildren, all of North Tonawanda; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Thom, Ellsworth, Wis., and Mrs. Fred Schulz, North Tonawanda, and two brothers, Gustave and John Karkau, both of North Tonawanda. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Frieden's church, Rev. Theo. Mayer officiating.

    Martin Karkau, 89 years old, one of the pioneer residents of North Tonawanda, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Schultz, at No. 140 Keil street, this morning after a brief illness. He was born in Germany. Three daughters, Mrs. Schultz and Mrs. William Janowsky of North Tonawanda and Mrs. William Thoman of Ellsworth, Wis; two sons, Gustave and John Karkau of North Tonawanda, and one brother, William Karkau of North Tonawanda survive. The funeral will be held from the Friedens church on Sunday afternoon.

    Martin Karkau, eighty nine years old a resident of the Tonawandas for many years, died early this morning at his home at No. 140 Keil street. His death was unexpected and followed an illness with which he was stricken last evening. Mr. Karkau was born in Germany and came to America at the age of fifty-two. He located in the Tonawandas. where he continued to live the rest of his life. He is survived by two sons. John and Gustave Karkau of North Tonawanda, three daughters Mrs. William Janowsky and Mrs. Fred Schultz of North Tonawanda and Mrs. William Thom of Ellsworth, Wis., fifteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one brother, William Karkau of North Tonawanda. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the late residence and half an hour later from Frieden's church at the corner of Vandervoort and Schenk streets, Rev. K. A. Schultz officiating. Burial will be made in the Frieden's cemetery. Dr. M. F. Nolan, who was called to attend Mr. Karkau last night, round the man suffering from a blockage of some of the vital organs.
