21752 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/19/1984 A Niagara County grand jury today returned an indictment charging a Niagara Falls man with vehicular manslaughter as a result of a double fatal auto accident on the north Grand Island bridge June 2. Charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter, third-degree assault, driving while intoxicated and changing lanes unsafely to Mark J Fiorentini, 22, of 2402 Woodland Ave. He was arraigned this morning before County Judge Aldn DIFlorio, who released the suspect in his own recognizance pending a trial date. The accident claimed the lives of Joseph P. Bruno, 34, and Teresa Sirianna, 14, both of Niagara Palls, who were passengers in a vehicle operated by Fiorentini. Rosalind Marrero, another passenger, suffered injuries. The vehicle was struck in the rear by a tractor trailer operated by Stephen E. 21761 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/2/1949 Charles W. Ackerman, 79, of 175 Keil St. died yesterday afternoon in DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A native of the Town of Amherst, he had lived in North Tonawanda most of his life. As a partner of Louis T. Fick, a former North Tonawanda mayor, he operated a flour mill at Oliver and Mechanic Sts. for 50 years. He retired a few years ago. Mr. Ackerman was a charter member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at Payne Ave. and Robinson St. He was a member of Electric City Lodge, IOOF. Had he lived until Oct. 24, he and his surviving wife, Emma, would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Siegfried Gromm, Miss Mildred Ackerman, Mrs. Clarence L. Braun and Mrs. August Wyrobeck, all of North Tonawanda; three sons, Arthur C. and I. Warren Ackerman of the Tonawandas and Edgar H. Hosts of a special dinner party at the Downtowner Motor Inn will be sons, Walter and David, and their wives. Mr. Arenz and the former Carrie B. Lindemann were married Sept. 3,1917, in First Presbyterian Church, Syracuse, N.Y., by the Rev. David R. Jones. Their honor attendants were Mrs. Oscar R. Clayton, who will arrive from Syracuse to attend the party, and the late Dr. Clayton. Mr. and Mrs. Arenz have been lifelong residents of the Tonawandas except for two short periods when they lived in Newark, N.J. and Harbor Springs, Mich. Mr. Arenz was a shipbuilder during World War I, interior decorator in Harbor Springs, employe of Roy Arenz Motors in North Tonawanda, and upon retirement in 1959, had worked many years in the service sales department of Twin City Auto Co., Buffalo. Mrs. Arenz is an accomplished organist and was organist-choir director of the Broad Street Baptist Church many years. They take great pride in their home, which is over 100 years old and have done all the remodeling work inside. Great enthusiasts of water, they do much boating on the Niagara River and Erie Canal in a cruiser. Mr. Arenz has made dozens of beautiful needlepoint articles, "while watching television in the winter," including five organ bench covers. Mrs. Arenz knits for her family. Each year, they travel to Connecticut to visit David and his family in Milford. They also have taken tripe to Florida, California and Oregon. Walter resides in Kenmore. 21768 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/20/1951 Vases of white gladioli decorated the altar of St. Francis Church Saturday Aug. 11 for the wedding of Miss Florence Schultz, daughter of Mrs. Matilda Reser of Tonawanda and Anthony Zipp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Zipp. The ceremony was performed by The Right Rev. Msgr. John A. Weismantel. The bride was given in marriage by her uncle Mr. Herman Lintner. During the ceremony Miss Bacon sang "Mother At Thy Feet is Kneeling," "Pontis Angilico," land Schubert's "Ave Maria." The bride wore a gown of ny- Ion tulle and Chantilly lace. The fitted bodice was fashioned with a sweetheart neckline, long sleeves pointing over the wrists, a short ruffled peplum and bouf- fant skirt over which lace flowers were scattered. Her fin- ger tip veil of illusion was held in place by a matching lace bonnet. She carried a colonial bouquet of white roses, baby mums and lily of the valley. The maid-of-honor, Miss Helen Dzuglo wore a gown of white eyelet organdy over pastel green. It was fashioned with.a sweetheart neddine and short peplum both outlined with organdy flowers. Her headpiece was a bonnet effect, and she caried a colonial bouquet of summer flowers. The bridesmaids were Mrs. Frederick Lindaman and Mrs. William Schreck. Their gowns and bouquets were similar to the maid-of-honor, one over aqua and the othe'r over yellow. Mr. Paul Zipp, brother of the groom, was best man. Messrs. Frank Wenske and George Zitzka, cousins of the groom, were ushers. The mother of the bride wore a dress of pale pink shadow lace and a corsage of roses. The groom's mother chose a light blue print crepe dress and wore a corsage of roses. The breakfast, immediately af- ter the ceremony was given at the bridegroom's home. The dinner was at the Kathryn Lawrence Tea Room and a reception followed at the American Legion. For a motor trip thru Canada the bride chose an aqua two piece dress with white accessories. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a life member of the Eldredge Club. Mr. Lawrence was also a member and organizer of the Twin City Checkers Club and was instrumental in arranging tournaments throughout the area including Ontario, Canada for almost 50 years. Thimecke officiated at an afternoon ceremony In St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church when the former Miss Jac quelyn Andrees, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Andrees, Falls Blvd., became the bride of Ralph Rogers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rogers of Lockport. Vases on either side of the altar were filled with white gladioli. Palms and ferns decorated the chancel. The arch, under which the couple .exchanged vows, was entwined with white carnations and huckleberry greens. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white imported French nylon tulle and slipper satin. An illusion neckline was trimmed with Chantilly lace and pleated nylon tulle. The bodice was softly shirred and an apron effect of pleated tulle and net accented the full tulle skirt over net and satin which extended into a court length train. A scalloped lace-edged fingertip veil of illusion, with inserts of lace, was caught to a nylon tulle bonnet trimmed with clusters of lilies-of-the- valley. The bride carried a cascade bouquet of white roses and stephanotis. The maid of honor. Miss Clarice Siegmann, wore a maize strapless gown of imported lace with a matching stole. Her bonnet was of nylon tulle trimmed with lilies-of-the- valley. The bridesmaid, Miss Sandra Andrees and Miss Esther Zeinvndorf were in similar gowns of orchid. Miss Beverly Moll, the flower girl v.ore a nylon tulle gown with sweetheart neckline and shirred bodice. The full tulle skirt was caught up at the hemline over taffeta and trimmed with flowers. Her match'ng tulle bonnet was enhanced with forget-me-nots. They carried cascade bouquet of camellias. Walter Ganshow was the best man and ushers were William Andrees and Gordon Voelker. The ring bearer, Bruce Moll, carried a white satin pillow with double lace edging. Mrs. Ernest Andrees welcomed her reception guests attired in dusty pink nylon tulle and lace over taffeta. The hammer commem- orated 60 years' service in the hardware industry. Grace Lutheran Church was or- ganized 53 years ago in the third- floor hall of Mr. Wilke's hard- ware store, on Jan. 21, 1906. His numerous activities in con- nection with the church include the position as a Sunday School superintendent for 25 years, and as the church's financial secre- tary for 20 years. He was the first president of the grace Lutheran Brotherhood in 1920 and 1921, and had served as president of the New York State Luther League, the Buffalo Luther League, his church's first bowling league, the Union Broth- erhood, the Grace Lutheran Church, the Retail Credit Bureau and the Church cabinet. He was vice president of the Twin City Council of Churches from 1939 to 1942. He regularly attended synod and other meetings all over the country, was several times elect- ed a delegate to the United Lu- theran Church conventions and held numerous offices in Luther- an groups. 21800 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/25/1967 ZUCH - Mrs. Amanda Zuch, 80, of 188 Fredericks St, North Tonawanda. died Sunday (Sept 24. 1967) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a long Illness. Mrs. Zuch was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, a member of S t Matthew Evangelteal Lutheran Church and of its Ladies Guild. She was the wife of the late Gustav C Zuch who died in September 1965. Surviving are a son, Irvin G. Zuch of North Tonawanda, six grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Edwin (Alma) Sahr, of North Tonawance, Friends mey call at Fretthold Funeral Home, 1261 Oliver St. at Ward Road, where services will be at 2 p.m, Wednesday. The Rev, A. W. Moldenhauer will officiate. Interment in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery.
