| 31106 | Tonawanda News Jun 10, 1927 FATHER OF 3 N. TONAWANDA RESIDENTS MURDERED IN WEST Word was received here yesterday of the murder of the Rev. William Wambsganss of Sheboygan, pastor of the German Lutheran Church, Wisconsin, and of Frank Doering, Sr, who was shot and killed by Walter Doering, seventeen, who then turned the gun upon himself and committed suicide. The Rev. Mr. Wambsganss is the father of twelve children, three of whom reside in North Tonawanda. The Misses Marie and Norma Wambsganss, prominent violinists of this city and Mrs. William E Schmidt of 100 Christiana street are daughters of the murdered man. No explanation has been offered of the triple tragedy and authorities are at sea as to a motive for the crime. Doering. 62 was the father of ten children. The slayer shot his two vixtims in the temple with a 32 calibre revolver. Mrs. Doering said she sent Walter on an errand just before noon and then went to the basement. There she found her husband's body. When the son returned from the errand, he was told of his father's death. While police were investigating, the boy, despite a paralyzed leg rode his bicycle to the home of the Rev. William Wambsganss where he asked for a private audience with the pastor, who was in the act of eating dinner. Mr. Wambsganss left the dinner table and escorted young Doering into his study. No shots were heard, but when the minister failed to appear the son Paul went after him and found him shot through the temple, as was Doering, with a 32 calibre revolver. Young Doering's body was a few feet distant but there were no signs of a scuffle. The Rev. Mr. Wambsganss, who was 57 years old, has been pastor of the Bethlehem German Lutheran Church of Sheboygan for 27 years. Born in Germany, Mr. Breitenbach came to the U.S. when he was 12 years old and has since been a resident of the North Tonawanda area. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church of Wendelville. He had been employed by the corporation since Aug. 26, 1930 serving first as a district representative. In December 1940, he entered the Twin Cities office of Niagara Mohawk as a salesman, becoming customer service representative in March 1945. Active in the Lions Club of the Tonawandas, Mr. Schoenfeldt formerly served the club as a director and as secretary-treasurer. He was also member of the Electrical Workers Local 1352-AFL.
