| 31310 | Two automobile accidents on the Niagara Falls boulevard yesterday afternoon and last evening resulted in the death of one child and the serious injury of another. .Norman Broecker, ten years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Broecker of the Niagara Falls boulevard near the Nash road, died shortly after 5 o'clock last night form injuries which he received two hours before, when he was run over by one of the big auto trucks of Jacob Moschels Sons, meat packers of No. 153 Peckham street. Buffalo. Broecker and a younger brother Donald, were riding on a bicycle which the older boy was operating when they were struck by the Moschels truck, bound from Niagara Fal!s to Buffalo. Norman Broecker was hurled under the wheels of the truck which passed over him. His right hip and leg were crushed. The other lad was thrown clear of the machine and escaped with slight injuries. Dr. J. E. Helwig was called. He found the seriously injured boy bleeding profusely. and ordered him rushed to the DeGraff Memorial hospital. While Dr. Helwig assisted by Dr. R. P. | 31311 | Tyler Ronald Emmick, 21, of Niagara Falls, NY, was called to eternal peace on Thursday, April 23, 2015. Born on July 14, 1993 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the beloved son of Michael and Lynn (Haynes) Emmick. Tyler attended local schools and later attended Niagara County Community College. He was an accomplished powerlifter and bodybuilder, winning several awards and also earned his Black Belt in Karate. Tyler also loved music and was a die-hard Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. He was active in his family's local church, Riverside Presbyterian Church, where he served in many of their volunteer services. In his younger years, Tyler was active in Boy Scouts, soccer and baseball. Tyler was very sociable, fun-loving and a friend to all who knew him. He had a smile that could light up a room. In addition to his cherished parents, Tyler will be sadly missed by two brothers, Paul (Katie) Emmick and Nicholas (Kim Banas) Emmick; his grandmother, Patricia (late John) Sparks; aunts, Kathy (late Julian) Sojka, Terri Hans, Tammy (Sherri) Wehrmeyer, Darlene (Jack) Placek and Sherry (Steve) Gordon; his uncle, Bob (Lynne Gryska) Emmick and many cousins and other relatives and close friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Robert and Marjorie Emmick and Ronald Haynes and uncle, Gary Kahley. | 31313 | udith Ann (Hepburn) Turgeon, formerly of Niagara Falls, of North Tonawanda, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 in Buffalo Mercy Hospital. She was 79. Born in Niagara Falls on June 4, 1941, she was the only daughter of William and Irene (Glover) Hepburn. She attended area schools. She was employed as a secretary for Nabisco in Niagara Falls and was a member of the Eastern Star. With arthritic hands, Judy knitted countless newborn baby caps for hospitals. She also made adult and children’s mittens, donating them to numerous community agencies and schools for distribution. Judy enjoyed crafting with family and friends, reading and book reviews, family visits, Sunday drives with her daughter, holiday’s with family and activities socializing with her very dear friends at Bishop Gibbons, where she resided for many years. She was a kind, humbled woman who will be dearly and beyond abundantly missed by her beloved family. Survivors include five children, Tammy E. Turgeon Fetto of Williamsville; Melinda I. (Barry) Boesken of Niagara Falls; Joseph P. (Camille) Turgeon, Jr. of Frederick, MD; Jean H. Turgeon of Geneseo and Matthew S. (Melissa) Turgeon of San Marcos, Texas; lifetime dear friend, Margaret Ellman of North Tonawanda; eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a niece, a nephew and several cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Phillip Turgeon, Sr. in 1974 and her son, Kenneth Gordon Turgeon in 2019 and her brother, William K. Hepburn, III. She, with her family, moved to Niagara Falls when she was a child. She was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School, class of 1965. Judy continued her education at Niagara University, earning her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education. She was a cheerleader while attending Niagara University. Mrs. Pero was employed for many years with the Niagara Falls Board of Education. She taught eighth and ninth grade English for many years, retiring in 2002 from Niagara Falls High School. Judy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls. She enjoyed crafting and working with stained glass. She is survived by her husband, John F. Pero, married February 13, 1971; their children, John "Jack" Pero of Niagara Falls; Jaime (fiance Peter Pietrangeli) Pero of Niagara Falls; her brother, Gary L. Barbara is the cherished mother of her 5 sons, Michael of Holliston, MA, Dennis of Abington MA, Thomas of Boston, Brian of New Smyrna, FL and David of Medfield, MA. She is survived by 11 grandchildren (+1 deceased) and 3 great- granddaughters. Born and raised in an era when wife, homemaker and Mother was the most highly expected pursuit for women, she was the quintessential example of that. Bravely raising 5 boys while James blazed his professional career. Barbara held the "fort" and trucked the kids wherever they needed to be, little league, band practice, doctor, dentist, clothes shopping, hospital, she orchestrated the feeding of 5 growing boys, cleaned all the fish we brought home, repaired all the holes in the clothes, picked up the frozen children from the skating pond and taught the kids how to sew. She happily donated her wedding veil and dress (once she realized she wasn't having a daughter) to make fishing nets and toy parachutes for the kids, constantly guided her children away from mis-adventure All the while performing as the Family CFO. She was the chief outfitter and base camp coordinator for all the many family camping and skiing trips. Later on, as the kids left the nest Barb took up skiing, but (mostly apres-ski) and embarked on antiquarian ventures with her close friend Alana. She was an expert at trivia, a graceful follower on the dance floor, a solid partner at Bridge and Master of budget recipes. Grapes, 91, died peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at her home in Sterling, IL. Bernice was born on July 21, 1922, in North Tonawanda, NY to William H. and Viola (Praker) Meisner. She married Stanley H. Grapes on October 15, 1947, who preceded her in death on February 7, 2004. Bernice graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1940, Bryant & Stratton Business School in 1942, and worked at Tonawanda Iron & Steel Works until 1950. After rearing her children, she re-entered the work force in 1970 and worked in the Guidance Office at Sweet Home High School, retiring in 1985. Bernice was a life-long member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda. She was the sole-surviving member of Inter-Amicas Club, a loyal group of friends since 1938. Bernice resided in the Town of Tonawanda, from 1952-2007, then re-located to Sterling, IL. Bernice was extremely well-read, enjoyed the piano, extensive travels, playing bridge and her beloved Buffalo Bills. And everyone loved her pies. Her primary focus, however, always remained with her family. She will be greatly missed. Bernice is survived by her children, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Grapes, Thomas (Paula) Grapes, and Martha (John) Benson; and her grandchildren, Christopher Grapes, Mary (Shad) Gregory, Philip Grapes, Michael (Nichole) Grapes, Stephen Grapes, Molly (Trevor) Wiggins, Sarah (Clyde) Anglim, Margaret Benson and Ellen Benson; and cousin, Walter ("Bud") Witte and his wife, Pat. | 31334 | Union Sun and Journal - 12/9/1944 While her parents worked at war jobs in Lockport, an eight-year-old Appleton girl—one of seven children—was fatally shot at her home in the Hess Road Friday afternoon by her nine-year-old brother who was playing soldier with a shotgun he didn't know was loaded.The full charge struck the little girl, Mary Helen Schurr, 8, in the middle of the back, causing almost instant death. Dr. Mabel Carmer, Newfane, coroner, said the spine was penetrated by the leaden pellets. She issued a certificate of accidental death. Old-Style Gun State Police reported the gun was fired by nine-year-old Rober Schurr. Three smaller girls were playing m the house and a 11-year old brother was in the bam, they learned. A 16-year-old sister was on a shopping trip in Lockport and the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Schurr, were both working here at Harrison Radiator Division, General Motors Corporation. The gun, an old-style double-barreled 13-gauge weapon was kept in the bedroom and State Police said the parents told them that they believed it was unloaded. As the shooting was explained by the children, Robert was playing soldier with the gun and fired at his sister through the bedroom door as she was crossing the adjoining living room. Funeral Monday When the girl fell wounded, the frightened children ran to the home of neighbors who summoned a doctor Later the body was moved to the Corwin mortuary in Newfane.The surviving children are, Raymond F , Robert W., Marjorie J.,Lina C, Betty M and Freda J. Schurr, all at home. A grandmother, Mrs. Cora Farewell, lives In Lockport.Services will be held Monday at 2 o'clock at the family home.
