Mr. Beha was a veteran of World Wars land II serving as a captain in the invasion of North Africa and Italy. He was past commander of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post 25, Mohawk, and also New York State vicecommander. Burial will be in the Middleville Cemetery. Miss Wohler. a 1971 graduate of the Dion Central High School, died early yesterday when she was thrown from her car in the Dion Gorge and then pinned under the vehicle in Steele Creek which flows through the gorge. According to East Herkimer State Police, the accident occurred at 1 yesterday while Miss Wohler was driving north on Route 51 through the gorge. She lost control on a curve and the car struck a tree. Miss Wohler was ejected at this point, troopers, said. and landed in the creek. The car continued on into the creek, pinning her underneath. A coroner attributed death due to drowning. Thomas Jacquays, 25, of 340 Otsego St., a passenger, suf- fered a possible broken left wrist and said he would see his own physician. Miss Wohler was born in Ilion, daughter of Gerald and Helen Preston Wohler. She was a prac- tical nursing student in the Her- kimer County Board of Coopera- tive Educational Services Pro- gram. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a past pressident of the methodist Youth Fellowship. The couple was attended by Miss Rose Buehler, sister of the bridegroom and Roger Healey of Springfield, Mass. The bridde wore a gown of white Spanish lace over white satin with finger tip veil fashened to a lace cap in halo effect and carried white roses. Her maid of honor was gowned in heaven blue mar- quisette and wore a tiara of blue flowers to wich a short veil was fashened. Her bouquet was of pink roses. Mrs. Doyle's gown was of blue crepe, with accessories of a darker hue, and corsage of pink roses. The bridegroom's mother wore lavender crepe with matching hat and a corsage of yellow roses. Following the ceremony, the young couple left by motor for Washington, D. C. and other pooints of interest. He was bom in Utica, N.Y., August 1,1919, son of Vincent and Mary LaPorte Tropea, was educated in local schools, and he was a graduate of Utica College. On May 11, 1946, Joseph married the former Theresa Brindisi. Mr. Tropea was employed as a Logistics Specialist in the Electronics Systems Division for the Fwktal GovertuBeat- at Grifnss Air Force Base and Hanscom Field, Bedford, Mass., for over 30 years, retiring in 1974. During World War U. Joseph served in the U.S. Army and received citations for his involvement in the European Theater. He was a treasurer of the Twenty-five Club, and was an avid Bocce Player at the Sons of Italy. He was a communicant of St Agnes Church. He is survived by his beloved wife and mother, his two sons, Vincent and his wife, Theresa, Gary and his friend. Patricia Surace, all of Utica; three grandchildren, Ginny. ALSO North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 8/17/1938 Believed to have been the victim of a heart attack, Benjamin Achterberg, 23 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs, Charles Achterberg, Tonawanda Creek road, town of Amherst, sank in the Barge Canal while swimming with a number of other young people at Pickard's Bridge early last evening. The body was recovered IS minutes later by members of the North Amherst Fire company, of which the youth was a member. An inhilator was Used by the First Aid squad. of the Eggertsville Fire company in an unsuccessful attempt to restore him. Physicians said that no water was found in the man's lungs, giving rise to the belief that he was the victim of a heart attack. Not Expert Swimmer Achterberg was not an expert swimmer,..He had been swimming with other youths of Pickard's Bridge in the canal all Summer and was considered able to hand- le himself fairly well in the aquatic sport. The point where he went down was less than 1,00 feet from the Achterberg home and only a short distance east of the bridge over the canal in the small settlement. Ria Survivors Besides his parents the youth is survived by two brothers, Leonard and Maynard, at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Dexheimer, town of Wheatfield, and Lorna, at home. Medical examiner Charles E Long was called. The body was removed to Hamp's morgue or Adam street. Dr. Long has not issued a certificate of death.
