| 32054 | Webster NY Herald - 12/13/1951 With her father not only giving her in marriage, but receiving the vows as well, Miss Dorothy Helen Walck became the bride of Donald William Wendt Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Roseland Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Before the altar, decorated with white mums, palms and cathedral candles, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. A. W. Walck, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wendt of Sanborn, N.Y., exchanged their vows. Miss Gertrude Walck, sister of the bride, played th wedding music, and Paul Mehls of Niagara Falls, was soloist. For her wedding the bride chose candleight bridal satin made with a fitted bodice and long sleeves ending in points. The portrait neckline was bordered with imported Venice lace and the full gathered skirt ended in a cathedral train. Her veil of imported illusion was held by a satin halo covered with seed .pearls and she carried white roses and pom pons centered with an orchid. Miss Amanda Walck, another sister, was maid of honor. She wore rose taffeta made with a lace-edged nylon yoke and carried white 'mums and pink roses. The bridesmaids were Miss Har- Landers and Miss Anne Louise Wendt, both of Niagara Falls. Miss Gracelyn Wendt of Sanborn was junior bridesmaid. They were all gowned in turquoise taffeta made in the same style as that of the maid of honor. Bertram Wendt of Sanborn was best man for his brother. The ushers were William Wendt Jr., Kenneth and Glenn Wendt, also brothers of the groom, and Leonard Walck, a. cousin of the bride. For her daughter's wedding Mrs.. Walck chose a gown of fray with fray accessories and a cor- sage of gardenias and roses. Mrs. Wendt wore a blue dress, with matching accessories and a rose and gardenia corsage. Following the ceremony a re- ception was held in the Bethle- hem Church parlors Out-of-town guests were from Fremont and Toledo, Ohio; Bergholtz, Sanborn, Walmore, Pekin and Middleport, N.Y. Upon their return from a wed- ding trip to Montreal Mr. and Mrs. Wendt will make their home on the Lockport Rd., Niagara Falls. | 32057 | Webster NY Herald - 3/14/1990 Howard M. (Cap) Schlegel, 6078 Walworth Rd., Ontario, died Thursday, March 8, 1990 at Rochester General Hospital. He was 71. A 1937 graduate of Webster High School, he lived and worked on the family farm on the comer of Salt and Schlegel roads before entering the service in 1944. He served with the 311th U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and saw combat duty in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a holder of the Combat Infantry Badge and Presidential Unit Citation among other honors. After his military service, he worked for Eastside Distributor as a salesman for more than 30 years. He was a: charter member of the Webster VFW Post 9483, a member of the Ontario Meyer-Ingraham American Legion Post, the Disabled American Veterans and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Schlegel was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a lifelong gardener known for his gigantic pumpkins. A funeral service was held March 11 at the Smith, Lotze and Anthony Funeral Chapel, Webster. Interment was at White Haven Memorial Park. Rev. Eugene MacConnell officiated. He leaves his wife, Jean; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Carolyn of Red Creek and Robert and Diane of Webster; a daughter and son in- law Kathryn and Bruce Kroening of Gates; nine grandchildren; a sister, Irene Lash of East Rochester; and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Wanda of Fairport. | 32067 | Webster NY Herald - 7/11/1984 Wesley W. Bills of Pittsford died Saturday, June 30,1984 at his Larchwood Drive home after an extended battle with cancer. He was 71. ° Mr. Bills was born in Auburn and was a graduate of Auburn High School. Hereceived a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Mechanics Institute, Rochester, and did some graduate work at the University of Rochester. He was a 45-year employee of the Eastman Kodak Company, working in the paper mill as a chemical engineer before becoming assistant superintendent at Kodak Park. He retired in 1976. Mr. Bills was active in the Boy Scouts from 1944 to 1956 serving as a committeeman, merit badge counselor and as Great Northern District chairman. He also served as a trustee and treasurer of the Seneca United Methodist Church and as a committee member on the Rochester District Union of the United Methodist Church. Since retiring, he spent many hours volunteering at Genesee Hospital. In his spare time, Mr. Bills enjoyed woodworking, vacationing in the Adirondacks and traveling to Europe, Canada, and the South Pacific. A service in his memory was" held July 10 at the Seneca United Methodist Church, Irondequoit. Funeral arrangements were by the Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, Webster. Mr. Bills leaves his wife, Kathryn; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sandra, Alan and Sharon; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Richard Bushnell; 12 grandchildren; and two brothers, Roscoe and Allan. Mrs. Mead was born Dec. 3. 1907 in Fair Haven to Arthur W. and Clara Brace Scott and graduated from Fair Haven High School and Hannibal Teacher Training Class. June 2. 1934 she married Melvin A. Mead in Rochester. The couple have lived in Rochester, Ontario Center and Sodus Point. Mrs. Mead taught elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse in Fairdale and later was employed at the Shuron Optica] Co. in Rochester during the 1940s and 1950s. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, baking and remembering friends and relatives with cards and notes on birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions: She traveled extensively with her family and spent many winters in Florida. ' Predeceased by her grandson, Keith Yarbrough, she is survived by her husband of 64 years, Melvin; three children, Suzanne (James) Beachner of Webster. Donald married Sandra Scroger in May 1961 in Warsaw, where the couple made their home for several years before moving to Perry and living there for 15 years. They later lived in Chili and Bergen, and for the past 5 years have lived in the town of Ontario. An aircraft mechanic and inspector, Donald retired from Page Airways, Rochester in 1994 after 34 years of service. Prior to working for Page Airways, he had been employed by Mallory Timers in Warsaw and Perry KnitUng and Cutlery. Donald served in the United Sates Air Force form 1953 to 1957. A long-time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Warsaw, Donald was also a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Webster. Donald loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed improving and remodeling the homes in which they lived. Later in life, Don like to go country dancing. Mr. Benedict died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 at age 67 in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. The Rev. Lance D. Robblns officiated at the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Arrangements were by the Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave., Webster. Private Zellar, who won the award of Order of the Purple Heart for extraordinary perform- ance of duties in the North Af- rican campaign, returned in this country recently after recovering from wounds received in action. Miss Helen Gaynor, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and Hartland Zellar of Weedsport was his brother's best man. The bride was charming in a gown of white satin, with a long train. Her veil was of white net with a sweetheart crown and trimmed with orange blossons. She carried a bouquet of white roses. Her attendant wore pink velvet and net and carried an arm bouquet of pink roses. After a brief honeymoon the bride will return to the home of her parents and the bridegroom will report back to Camp Dix, N.J. for duty. The bride, who is a graduate of ??? The bridegroom is a graduate of Weedsport Central High School and has been in the United States Army for three years. He was predeceased by siblings, Lloyd, Joyce Bacon, Thelma Anderson, Elaine La Freniere, Fred Jr., Carl and Ethel Keirn. Loren joined the Merchant Marines when he was 16. He traveled the world. He served in the Korean War. He and Betty Ann were married February 6, 1951 when he was on leave. He worked for Prudential for 34 years. He enjoyed working at gardening, building or fixing. He was a role model for his children, all of whom have good work ethics. He enjoyed hunting, golf and traveling. A wonderful husband and father. Mr. Weinheimer graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1942 and served with the US Army, in the European Theater during World War II. He was an Electrical Technician with Wurlitzer for over 20 years and with Introl Design, until retiring in 1990. Mr. Weinheimer was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, the Wheatfield Cemetery Association and the Wheatfield Senior Bowling League. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth D. (Stowell) Weinheimer, who died in December of 2010. Mr. Weinheimer was the father of Donald (Barbara) Weinheimer of Shawnee, David (Rebecca) Weinheimer of Ft. He was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Alfred, the son of the late Lloyd and Lillian Fanton Cornelius. On July 9, 1955, in Elm Valley, he married Marilyn Pfohl, who survives. Ben was raised in Alfred and was a 1946 graduate of Alfred-Almond High School. He was a veteran the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953, and served in Germany during the Korean War. He was first employed by the Alfred Telephone Company and Alfred Atlas Sand and Gravel. In 1956 he began his career as a lineman for New York Telephone in Wellsville, and later was an installer until his retirement in 1989. In his retirement, he became a partner in East Dyke Depot in Wellsville. He was a member of the Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion, the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW, the Wellsville Moose Lodge No.601, Elks Lodge No. 1495, the Wellsville Lions Club, the Wellsville Country Club and the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was an avid railroad modeler, and enjoyed kit-bashing the Wellsville, Addison and Galeton Railroad for his extensive layout. He and Ron Tomah organized the annual "Indian Open Golf Tournament" at the Wellsville Country Club. In addition to railroad modeling, he enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching and hunting. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Louis "Ben" (Judith) Cornelius and Bradley Cornelius, both of Wellsville; a daughter, Karen Lane of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren, Justin (Kari) Cornelius, Matthew (Diana Gowdy) Cornelius, Brian Lane, Kelly Lane, Joshua Cornelius and Jacob Cornelius; a sister, Charlotte (Mac) Davis of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was born March 25, 1937, in Niagara Falls, the daughter of the late Martin and Viola Walck Pfohl. On July 9, 1955, in Elm Valley, she married Louis "Ben" Cornelius, who predeceased her Dec. 19, 2018. Throughout her life, Marilyn was employed in several professions, including as a telephone operator for New York Telephone; being a waitress for The Coffee Pot, Long View and Howard's; selling Avon; and working at the Allegany County Jail. However, Marilyn found her calling in nursing. She had been scheduled to be the valedictorian of her senior high school class but instead opted to follow her heart and marry Ben before having the opportunity to graduate. At the age of 45 she began to pursue her dream and career. She obtained her GED and enrolled in the Alfred State College nursing program. She not only had perfect attendance, but earned high grades and the respect of the younger students. They loved her so much, they nominated her their class president. Upon graduating with an associate's degree, Marilyn would work in both Olean General and Jones Memorial hospitals. Marilyn and Ben were members of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and Marilyn was a member of the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandma, aunt, nurse and friend to many. Her work on Earth is done, and she is home with her Lord. Born April 6, 1911 in Buffalo, he was the son of James and Lulu Ward Bannister. On Oct. 2, 1937 at St. Matheis Church in East Aurora, he married Barbara W. Swan who died Oct. 15, 1998. He was a graduate of Fosdick Masten Park High School and also attended the University of Buffalo. He worked for the former Sweet Kleen Laundry in Sales and Man- agement from 1930 to 1945. In 1947, he and George O'Don- nell purchased the J.R. Owen & Co. in Wellsville. They owned and operated that business until their retirement in 1973. In 1974, he worked as a meat cutter for Super Duper, part-time, until it closed in 1986. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf and bowling, where he was a 40 year member of the American Bowlling Conference. He and his wife spent many win- ters in Florida and their summers in Canada. He was active in the Allen- town community. A life member of the Southwestern, Allegany County and Allentown Volunteer Fire Com- pany where he had been their secre- tary for 30 years. He was also a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge 230 in Wells- ville. He was a school board mem- ber of the allentown School for eight years, after that school closed, he spent 10 years as a member of the Scio School Board. He was a member of the Allen- town United Methodist Church where he was a member of the board, lay speaker, and finance chairman for many years. He is survived by two sons, W. James (Paula) Bannister of Brock- port and Donald R. (Rita) Bannister of Irondequoit; one daughter, Joan (Jim) Hand of Wellsville; six grand- children; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Born Dorothy Walck in St. Paul, MN., she graduated from Minnehaha Christian Academy in Minneapolis in 1948. She moved to Niagara Falls the next year and worked for Republic Light and Power Co. She married her husband, Donald, in late 1951 and, together, they founded and operated Wendt's Propane Gas Co. from 1952 to 1966. Dorothy also worked at the Beacon Christian Book Store from 1972 to 1978 and 1984 to 1993. Mrs. Wendt was a counselor and prayer partner for the Christian Broadcasting Network's 700 Club for several years in the 1980s, and she and her husband had a satellite branch of the 700 Club in a warehouse on Lockport Road property where they lived for 35 years. Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, the Rev. Gary of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Douglas of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a daughter, Susan of Sanborn; two sisters, Martha Winnes of Minneapolis and Amanda Walck of Sanborn; a brother, the Rev. Lorna was born in Niagara Falls, New York on March 28, 1944, the daughter of Wallace and Cordia (Stoelting) Haseley, the second of six children. Lorna was a loving and devoted wife and her husband's best friend and confidant. She encouraged family and friends as a selfless guide and mentor. She was born with the heart of a farmer's daughter, loved the soil and was an excellent gardener. Lorna's yard and the surrounding area radiated her love for plants and flowers which she faithfully cultivated and nurtured. She will be sorely missed by the many whose lives she touched with her generosity and laughing spirit. Lorna fought valiantly against a disease that eventually consumed her body, but never consumed her love for her family and friends, nor her deep faith in the Lord Jesus. Lorna is survived by her husband of 51 years, Wayne Wentzel; five children and eleven grandchildren. Mrs. William Pankow, of St. Johnsburg; Mrs: Wilber Schmeichel. N. Tonawanda; Mrs. Neil Roberts of Lockport: Mrs. George Garlapo of Tonawanda. Mrs. Martin Herman of St. Johnsburg; 2 stepdaughters, Mrs. Edward Kick of Niagara Falls, N. Y.. Mrs. Rudolph Herman of Lockport. and a stepson, Albert Werth of Sanborn; 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; 3 sisters. Mrs. Bertha Behm. Mrs. Minnie Camann, Mrs. Ester Canosa all of Niagara Falls. Also a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver Street at Ward Rd.. N. Tonawanda and at 2:30 p. m. from the St John's Lutheran Church, the Rev. J.
