He had been in ill health for several years. Mr. Seefeldt was born Oct. 8, 1890, the son of Bernard and Sophia Doberteen Seefeldt. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Philip Schaal, minister of the North Ridge Methodist Church, at 2 p.m. at the Hardison Funeral Home, Ransomville. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Seefeldt was born in the Town of Cambria and lived in the Town of Wilson for 35 years. He was & farmer most of his life. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Ferris Seefeldt; three sons, Ervin Seefeldt, North Ridge, Douglas and Russell Seefeldt, both of this community; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Vonberg, Niagara Falls, Mrs. Harry Wilson, Sunbury, Pa., and Mrs. Lawrence Leggett, Ransomville; two brothers, George Seefeldt, Ransomville, and Charles Seefeldt, Buffalo; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was a 1941 graduate of Wilson High School and married Raymond K. Fredericks November 28, 1942 he predeceases her September 10, 1991. Janeta retired from Pfeiffers in 1988 and worked for many years at Kenzel Toys traveling with her son to tractor shows. A life long member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in North Ridge she was also a member of the Wilson Fire Company #1 ladies Auxiliary and then a founding member of the South Wilson Ladies Auxiliary and president along with other offices. Janeta was also a member of the Wilson Historical Society and loved gardening yard work scrap booking traveling spending time with her family and pets. Surviving is her daughter Randa L. Mrs. Werth was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Winnie as she was lovingly known by family and friends, was born in North Tonawanda to Edward C. and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Manth, nee Proefrock, on April 11, 1921. She started her career as a billing clerk for Wurlitzer and National Grinding Wheel. Her soon to be husband also worked for NGW. She married the love of her life Erwin H. Werth on July 3, 1941, five months after he proposed on Valentine's Day. After Erwin's death in 1981, Winnie became a Foster Grandparent at Meadow Elementary School. She enjoyed working with the students and teachers; it gave her purpose. She retired after 20 plus years of service. Winnie also enjoyed sewing and baking. We will miss her contagious smile, sense of humor, generous heart, soft hands and her homemade Kris Kringle cookies and fruit cake. She is survived by her daughter Carol A. Werth Poppe (Daniel), son Gary E. Werth (Carol J.), grandchildren: Michelle Hasch (Neal), Kelley Coons (Randy), David Werth (Wendy) and Marc Werth (Rebecca). She attended local schools and graduated from LaSalle Senior High School in 1940. She was awarded a scholarship to Syracuse University where she earned a degree in Interior Design. She married Sidney G. Walton, her high school sweetheart in 1944, and they raised their family in Niagara Falls, Lewiston, Orchard Park and Youngstown. As her children grew, she studied at Buffalo State Teachers College, earning a degree in Art Education and subsequently taught art at Lewiston-Porter Central School District for eighteen years. She volunteered her keyboard skills as a substitute organist at several Lutheran Churches where she has membership over the years. She was also active in local garden clubs, an extension of her love of color and design. She undertook the learning of loom weaving and was for many years a member of weaving clubs locally and in Queenston, Ontario. Predeceased in 2014 by her beloved husband after 70 years of marriage, she remains the dearly loved mother of Judith (James) Condino, Robbie (Larry) Krizan, Bradley (Debbie) Walton, Tim (Kelly) Walton and Sidney Jr. “Skip” (Gayle) Walton. Following that, he became a teacher at the Albion Correctional Facility where he taught building maintenance until his retirement. Peter was born on November 21, 1939, in Niagara Falls, NY, to Lucy (Sarro, Congi) Domorat and Peter Congi (both deceased). Peter was a graduate of Trott High School and a proud member of Laborer's Local 91 for over 50 years. Peter (aka, The Hawk) was a champion card and pool player, winning many local and national tournaments, one-pocket being his favorite game. Peter enjoyed traveling, and was a great patron of the arts and music. He was always eager to share stories of the many people and places he visited, and the friends he made along the way. Peter had friends from many walks of life and was always warm and inclusive to all. He will also be remembered for his love of Italian food; he made his own pasta with homemade sauce and meatballs. | 32272 | With sorrow and yet joy, we announce the passing into the arms of Jesus Warren (Bud) Ward on December 3, 2019. Bud was born Warren Francis Ward on March 26, 1926 to Roy L. Ward and Frances A. (Hannemann) Ward. Bud lived the majority of his life in Wilson, NY, where he owned and operated Ward Sales and Service Automotive Repair. Bud was also active in rifle training with the Wilson Conservation Club, was a member of the Lion's Club, and served with the Wilson Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years. With the fire department he served as Chief for eight years, instructed in fire training and as a civil defense instructor. He was active as well in scuba rescue and as scuba instructor. Bud served honorably as a WWII Navy Veteran, Firefighter Seaman First Class on numerous assignments, and on the USS Enterprise at Midway. He married Joan H. Hornsby in 1952, whom had preceded him in death. He was preceded also by two brothers, Wallace (Wally) Ward and Roger Ward. Bud has celebrated six children: James P.(Jim) Ward, Toni (Geering) Leffler, Randy C. Ward, Audre L. (Ward) Kimpton, Allison B. (Ward) Nungester and Timothy W. (Tim) Ward. He is survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Buckeye. Bud was blessed with health and long life, remaining adventurously active until death at age 93. Witmer, a retired structural and aerospace engineer and Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, died Tuesday in his Alden home after a lengthy illness. He was 81. A Buffalo native, Mr. Witmer grew up in Williamsville and was a graduate of Williamsville High School. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he also was an instructor and head of the Structural Model Laboratory. During his career, he participated in more than 1,400 projects, including pollution control, harnessing tidal power, cooling systems for nuclear and coal-fired power generation plants, portable radar towers, as well as several bridges throughout Western New York and suspension bridges in Cuyahoga National Park in Ohio. As an aerospace engineer with Bell Aerosystems for many years, he designed spacecraft heat shields for re-entry, the precursors to systems used on space shuttles. He also worked for other engineering concerns and as a consultant, retiring in the mid-1990s. Mr. Witmer was a descendant of Tobias Witmer, a surveyor for the Holland Land County, during the early 19th century. During World War II, Mr. Witmer served in the Army Air Forces' 765th Bombardment Squadron in Italy as a bomb sight mechanic. He rose to the rank of corporal. Mr. Witmer was active in community affairs and served as chairman of the Village of Alden Planning Board for 27 years. He also was town engineer for five years. Mr. Witmer and his wife of 58 years, the former Marilyn "Lynn" Booth, were active members of Amherst Dance Club for 25 years and served on the board of directors for 12 years. They were also actively involved with the Edelweiss Ski Touring Club for 25 years, traveling extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Mr. Witmer's other interests included environmental conservation, ballroom dancing, cross-country skiing, gardening and bridge. He enjoyed corresponding on issues and current events with The Buffalo News and Alden Advertiser. | 32280 | Witmer - On Sept. 27, 1903, Loren T. Witmer, aged 34 years, met a very sad and sudden death caused by coming in contact with a surcharged electric line, causing instantaneous death. He was the son of Martin and Elizabeth Witmer, and great-grandson of John and Barbara Witmer. He leaves a widow, one daughter and a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his untimely death. "In the midst of life we are in death." ALSO Niagara Gazette - 9/28/1903 Loren T. Witmer, a well known resident of t h e city was electrocuted a t his home No. 1307 Linwood Avenue early Sunday morning between the hours of 2 and 3 o'clock. . There was a cross on the incandescent circuit which caused tlie switch blocks to spark, and Mr. Witmer while searching for the trouble picked up a wire in the cellar and it is supposed that he received a shocK of 2,000 volts. Mrs. Witmer was aroused by the noise made by the electricity, there being a buzzing sound. She awakened her husband telling him there was something the matter with the electric light system. He arose from his bed and told his wife that he would go to the at- tic to throw off the switch. He returned In a minute and with his wife went to the cellar. It was dark and Mrs. Witmer left him s t a t i n g that she would go upstairs after a lamp. As she went up the stairs she heard a groan. "When she returned she found her husband lying on the cellar floor apparently dead. She called to h im and receiving no r e sponse she hastened upstairs and summoned Drs. W. H. Hodge and E. O. Mccarty. Upon the arrival of t h e physicians an examination was made and although it seemed hopeless an a t t e m p t was made to. rescusutate him by artificial respiration. The physicians worked over Witmer for an hour and then gave it up, the .man being beyond medical assistance. The exact manner in which Witmer met his. death will never be known. In the cellar beneath the stairs there was an Incandescent lamp suspended from a. hook. The Wire attached to the lamp was too long and a portion of it sagged in a loop touching the cellar floor. At the point of contact with the floor the insulation was burned from the wire leaving it bare. It is supposed that Witmer picked up the wire at the 'point of contact with t he floor and received . t h e full force or' the voltage of the wire with which the incandescent system was charged. He was thrown a distance of several feet from the point where he was .standing when he picked up t he wire. He grasped the wire with the left hand the physicians finding a charred burn on the wrist and also a burn on the instep where the charge of electricity left the body. Witmer was in his bare feet and the floor of the cellar being damp the circumstances could not have been more favorable for him to receive the full- voltage of t h e crossed wires. Coroner Slocum was called, made an examination of the wiring of t he house with Mr. McDonnell of the Buffalo & Niagara Fails Electric Light & Power Company. Everything was found as i t should be a n d a test of the wires made by Mr. McDonnell registered a voltage of 110 a s it should be. .Yes- terday afternoon the coroner wishing to be positive went to the Witmer house with a first-class electrician and made another examination. The wiring was pronounced to be perfect.- The only deduction left was that the incandescent system was crossed with a wire of higher voltage and this is t r u e as one ohe electric light circuits was clossed down for a short time early 'Sunday morning in order to locate a cross of the wires. Just how the electricity entered the house on the incandescent wire' is not explained. It is supposed that the switch was not thrown entirely off or if the disconnection had been made in a proper manner that the voltage was so high that the electricity leaped the Intervening space and made connection. Witmer was employed as a bookkeeper at the plant of the Carter-Grume and was 31 years old. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Witmer who formerly resided in this city but who now reside in Colorado. Besides his wife and child the deceased is survived by three sisters. At 2 o'clock Sunday morning Superintendent of the Fire Alarm M. J. Donohue was notified of trouble on the wire, the fire alarm having sounded several strokes. The pin on one of the cross arms of a pole at 18th and Niagara streets had pulled out allowing the the a l a rm wire to drop on a n arc wire. Word was at once sent to the power house and at 5: 45 o'clock circuit No. 4 was closed clown upon orders of Supt. Donohue he .believing it to be better to have the lamps on t h e circuit in darkness rather than to t a k e a chance, of someone being killed by a t t e m p t i ng to send in an a l a rm on circuit No. 2 of the fire alarm. In t he opinion of Supt. Donohue if a person attempted to send in an a l a rm from one of the boxes on No. 2 circuit with the electricity on the. No. 4 a r c circuit they would- have received a shock which would have caused death Superintendent Donohue had the system in working order and as soon as daylight arrived he went to work and pulled up the wire which crossed the arc system. Supt. Donohue is of t h e opinion that one of t h e Wires of the No. 4 a r c s y s t em was crossed with the incandescent- system and caused Witmer's death. He is positive t h a t death was not the result of the crossing of the a r c circuit with t he fire alarm wire at the corner of Niagara avenue and 18th street where the trouble was located at daylight. Soon after marriage they united with the Mennonite Church and remained faithful until death. On Dec. 22, 1888, he was united in marriage to Mamie Zeigler, of Columbiana, OH, who preceded him in death in 1931. Surviving are one son (Paul), with whom he made his home for the past 27 years, one sister (Mrs. Lucretia Weldy, Wakarusa, Ind.), 7 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son (Walter) and a daughter (Mary) who died two days apart in 1896; and a daughter (Edith Ziegler) who passed away in 1936. He was a lifelong member of the Mennonite Church, moving to the Columbiana, OH, community from Indiana in 1894. He was very active in church work, serving as Sunday-school superintendent and song leader for many years. In 1909 he was ordained to the office of deacon at the Leetonia, OH, Church. In 1914 he was ordained as a minister of the same church, in which capacity he faithfully served until his retirement in 1950. He also spent much time ministering to the Britton Run congregation near Corry, Pa., soon after its founding and was much interested in the work there. Funeral services were in charge of S. A. At the age of six years he came with his parents to Mahoning County, O., where in 1854 he was united in marriage with Mary Bixler. In 1865 he with his family moved to Elkhart County, Ind., and for 46 years lived on the farm where he died. Nearly three weeks before his death he was taken with symptoms of pneumonia, and gradually failed until he was summoned from on high to his eternal home. He was the father of 3 sons and 3 daughters; 2 sons died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his death his aged companion, 2 sons, John of Elkhart County, Ind., and Isaac of Leetonia, O., and 3 daughters, Mary at home, Susan, wife of Eli Wenger, and Lucretia, wife of George Weldy; also 1 brother, 1 sister, and 10 grandchildren. He united with the Mennonite Church 65 years ago, and was a faithful, devoted brother, for whom we need not mourn as those who have no hope, but may rejoice in the blessed assurance that if we are faithful to the Master's calling, we shall meet him with those who have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. He was buried Aug. 18, in Olive Cemetery, where a large concourse of people were assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to his memory. Tonawandan, Died in LaSalle William Gombert, 88 years old, a former North Tonawanda business man and a prominent figure in the public life of this city many years ago, died at his home in the LaSalle section of Niagara Falls yesterday. With the late James S. Thompson he erected one of the largest planning mills in the Tonawandas. Under the firm name of Gombert and Thompson the industry was operated until he sold out his interest. The firm of Thompson, Hubman and Fisher was then organized to take over the operation of the mill. Mr. Gombert also engaged in the coal business following his withdrawal from the lumber industry in 1892. He gave up the coal business in 1904 and went to LaSalle to reside, engaging in the real estate business on an extensive scale. Village President in 1883 Mr. Gombert was president of North Tonawanda in 1883. At that time the municipality was still a village. He also served for 25 years as a member of the Board of Public Works in this city. He was a charter member of the Columbia Hook and Ladder company. He was also one of the organizers of the St. Matthew's Lutheran church on Wheatfield street. After taking up his residence in LaSalle he became one of the leaders in the establishment of the Zion Lutheran church there. Mr. Gombert was born in Germany. He came to America at the age of seven and settled in Bergholz. In 1861 he went to Lockport to learn the carpenter trade. Eight years later he married Carolina Werth and took up his residence in Tonawanda. He later removed to North Tonawanda and became a member of the firm of Gombert and Thompson. Funeral Monday Surviving are a wife; six sons, Henry, North Tonawanda, Herman, Daytona Beach, Edward, George, Walter and Christian, Niagara Falls; three daughters, Mrs. Fred Goerss, Medina, Mrs. John Nussbaum, Niagara Falls, and Mrs. Benjamin Jagow, Bergholz; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at the late residence, 722 Cayuga drive, at 1:30 o'clock and half an hour later at the Zion church. Rev. G. F. Hoyer will officiate. Burial will be in Sweeney cemetery. - Niagara Falls Gazette WILLIAM GOMBERT IS DEAD AT FALLS HOME AT AGE OF 88 YEARS Former President of North Tonawanda Was One of County's Oldest Residents William Gombert, former president of the village of North Tonawanda and one of the oldest residents of Niagara county, died at the family home, 722 Cayuga. drive, at 3 o'clock this morning, following a short illness. He was 88 years old. A native of Germany, Mr. Gombert came to America with his parents when he was but seven years old. The family settled in Bergholtz and Mr. Gombert lived there until 1861, when he went to Lockport to learn the carpenter trade. In 1869 he married Carolina Wert (sic) and moved to Tonawanda. A short time later he moved to North Tonawanda and entered into a partnership with James S. Thompson. The company, known as Gombert and Thompson, built one of the largest planing mills in the Tonawanda's. Later Mr. Gombert sold out his interest in the firm, which them became the Thompson, Hubman and Fisher company. In 1892 he entered the coal business, which he conducted until 1904. In that year he moved to the former village of LaSalle, where he conduced a real estate business until his retirement several years ago. Mr. Gombert was elected president of the village of North Tonawanda in 1883. He later served as city treasurer and held many other important municipal offices. He served for 25 years as a member of the village board of public works. He was one of the organizers at the St. Matthew Lutheran church, of North Tonawanda, and the Zion Lutheran church, of the LaSalle section. He was the third last surviving member of the first fire company organized in North Tonawanda, the Columbia Hook and Ladder company, which was formed nearly 60 years ago. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pierson Tooker of Holley, . Miss- Luella Tooker and Harvey Hosford were married May 8, 1911, in Niagara Falls, Canada. A family friend, the Rev. David Moir, officiated. Attendants at the wedding were, Mrs. Molr and Milton Sinclair of St. Catherines, Ont. After a ten-day honeymoon hi the Catskllls, Mr. and Mrs. Hosford lived in Holley and other western towns. Mr. Hosford was employed by Ludington Construction Co. during the building of the Barge Canal. In 1915, the Hosfords moved to Savannah. They have two sons, Harvey E. of Seneca Falls and H. Elliott of Savannah; and three grandchildren. Mr. Hosford was a wellknown painter, until poor health made him give up t he trade. Until recently, he was employed by the state at Cayuga State Park. He has been in the hospital recently, but his wife enjoys good health and takes an active part in t he Legion Auxiliary. Jan. 11- John Buehring, 40 years old, a lifelong and highly esteemed resident of Wolcottsville. died late yesterday in the Medina Memorial hospital, from injuries received earlier in the day while cutting wood in this village. Mr. Buehring, as told in the Gazette Owl edition yesterday, was operating a power driven buzz saw on the grounds of the Niagara Furniture company, in Kelly avenue. for Thomas Pullen. of this village. According to authorities he slipped and his clothing became entangled in the saw. He was drawn into it and his left leg so badly mangled that amputation was necessary. He died while the operation was being performed. Loss of blood, shock and numerous other cuts contributed to his death. Mr. Buehring was born and lived all his life in Wolcottsville and was an an active member of St. Michaels Lutheran church and its societies. He is survived by his wife. Jan. 11 - Trapped on the carriage of a heavy lumber saw, John Buehring, 38, Middleport, was carried under the saw and fatally injured yesterday. Buehring died tonight a few hours after the accident. T. R. Pullen and Walter Mietz. Lumber workers witnessed the accident and said Buehring got in front of the carriage and was carried into the saw before he could reach a control lever a few inches beyond his fingertips or other workers could stop the machine. North Tonawanda. died on a New York Central passenger train just before the Exchange street station in Buffalo was reached at 7:30 o'clock last evening. The woman left North Tonawanda on the 7:09 train and was on her way to Unionville, Mich., to visit her sister, Mrs. Charles Riehman. Death was due to heart failure. Mrs. Zimmerman was accompanied by her son, Edward. She had been ill some time with heart troub!e and was stricken with more severe pain than usual as the train pulled into Buffalo. Several passengers lent their assistance in an attempt to revive the woman but she had expired. Death came suddenly. Mrs. Zimmerman hurried her arrangements for the trip to Michigan. This, together with the excitement, which the woman experienced over the thought,of visiting her sister, whom she had not seen for over thirty years, is believed to have been too much for her weakened heart to withstand. Medical Examiner Earl G. Danger had the body removed from the train to the morgue in Buffalo, whence it will be brought to the late home today. Mrs, Zimmerman is survived by four daughters. Miss Rosa Zimmerman, Mrs. Edward Kowsky, and Mrs. Albert Kowsky of North Tonawanda and Mrs. Adam Brietenbach of Shawnee, and five sons, William, John, Edward, Herman and Louis Zimmerman of the Tonawandas. The funeral will be held from the family home at 1:30 o'clock on Sunday afternoon and an hour later from the St. Peter's Church on Thompson street, the Rev. R. A. Salzwedel officiating.
