Niagara Gazette - 11/1969

Funeral services were held
Wednesday for Edward J. Roth,
84, of 631 Third St., who died in
Buffalo Friday (Oct. 31, 1969).
Mr. Roth was born in Switzerland
on Oct. 7, 1885, and had
lived in Niagara Falls since 1901.
He was employed by the Niagara
Falls Power Co. from 1903 to
1950 and was a foreman when
he retired,.
He was a past noble grand
of the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows Lodge No. 81 and was
past chief patriarch of Frontier
Encampment No. 99.
Mr. Roth's wife, Hilda, died
Jan. 10 of this year.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
William Cecile Lenz, this city;
a son, Alvin F. Roth, Fresno,
Calif., seven grandchildren and
13 great-grandchildren.
Private services were held at
Memorial Park Cemetery
with the Rev. Paul R.
Swank officiating. Arrangements
were made by Cobler's Funeral
Home.

(same location as Lakeside Memorial Home) where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 8:45 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Basilica at 9:30. William J. Witkop

William J. Witkop, 75, died suddenly in his home, 27 Stenzel St., after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Witkop, a native of Tonawanda, had lived in North Tonawanda 40 years. Survivors include his widow, Julia, nee Heuer; two daughters, Mrs. Bernhardt Moll and Mrs. Albert Jendrian; two sons, Frederick and William J. Jr.; 10 grandchildren, all of North Tonawanda; two brothers, Albert of Tonawanda, August of Pekin, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Strassburg, North Tonawanda. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St., and at 2:30 p.m. in the St. Marks’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Fretthold will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Katherhie Mack, widow of
John E. Mack and one of the most j
widely known residents of the north!
end section of the city, died today at
her home, 1661 Ontario avenue. She
was 83 years old and had been ill
only two weeks. Plans for the funeral
have not been completed.
Born In Wurten, Germany, Mrs.
Mack came to Niagara Falls when
she was 16 years old and had lived
here ever since. She was held in
the highest esteem among a wide
circle of friends, she was a member
of the Zlon Lutheran church for the
past 67 years and was an active
worker in numerous church affairs
She was a member of the Ladles Aid
society of the church and of Riverdae
Rebekah Lodge. No. 195, I.O.O.P.
Mrs. Mack is survived by three
sons, Jacob, Charles and John Mack,
all of this city; four daughters, Mrs.
John Gassier, Mrs. Fred Winker and
Mrs. Louis Hudson, of this city, and
Mrs. Herman Quester. of Sanborn;
21 grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren
