Mrs. Brydges, mother of two "
other lawyers besides the
senator, was born on a farm
in the Town of Lewiston on
property which is now part of
the Niagara University Campus.
She and her late husband,
who was superintendent of the
former Defiance Paper Mill,
Niagara Fall*, lived at the Falls
until about 40 years ago when
her husband became superintendent
of the Bedford Paper
and Pulp Mill in Big Island,
Va.
Mrs. Brydges mmoved to
Bethesda from Lynchburg, Va.,
15 years ago, when her husband
died to live with a daughter,
Mrs. Harry Straus.
Survivingn besides the three
sons, Earl W., of Niagara Falls;
James of Lynchburg, a., and
Richard of Virginia Beach, Va.,
are three daughters, Mrs. Harry
Straus, of Bethesda, Mrs. Stuart
Camden,, of Alexandria Va.,
Mrs. Raymond J. Ryan, of
Tavarse, Fla., a niece, Mrs.
Joseph Haley of Lockport 17

Funeral services will be
conducted in Bethesda

survived by four sons, Robert (Laurie) of Los Angeles, Donald (Gloria) of
VirginiaBeach, Va., Norman E. (Diane) of the Town of Wheatfield and Thomas
(Carol) Pokelwaldt of the Town of Tonawanda; a daughter, Mrs. Jesse
(Kathleen) Carroll of Kansas City, Mo.; thirteen grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph (Janet) Marshall of Dunedin, Fla., a
sister, Kathleen Marshall of North Tonawanda.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver St., at
Ward Rd., North Tonawanda Monday 7 to 9 and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held from the funeral home Wednesday at 10 a.m., the Rev.
E. Werner Weinreich will officiate. Interment Acacia Park Cemetery. If so
desired, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.

ROCHESTER - Edith Emma Strothmann (nee Witkop), age 93, of the Town of Cambria, August 13, 2014, in Rochester, NY. Edith was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, in the Town of Cambria, and had been a member of the Altar Guild.

She was the wife of the late William Strothmann. Beloved mother of Randy (Karen) Strothmann of Brockport, NY and the late Gary Strothmann. Grandmother of Nicole (Mark) Thomas of Brockport. Great-grandmother of Zachary, Connor and Brynn. Sister of James Witkop, Robert (Joyce) Witkop and the late Evelyn, Norman, Kenneth, Erwin and Wilbert; aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., in North Tonawanda on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM from St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 3229 Upper Mt. Rd., Sanborn. The Rev. R. Peter Vogeler will officiate. Evelyn R. Maerten , 86, a longtime Sanborn resident who moved here three years ago, died Friday (April 11, 2003) in Lockport Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Maerten was born Evelyn Witkop in Lewiston. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School.
She worked for 15 years as an assembly worker in the Wurlitzer Co. plant, North Tonawanda.
Mrs. Maerten was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid Society, the Lutheran Service Society and the Parent-Teacher League.
She was also a member of the Friendship Club in Sanborn.
Her husband of 49 years, Philip E., died in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Gary Sr. of Lockport; a daughter, Beverly Zdrojewski of Hartland; two brothers, Robert Witkop and James Witkop, both of North Tonawanda; a sister, Edith Strothmann of Sanborn; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 453 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, North Tonawanda.

A 45-year-old Sanborn man died
yesterday afternoon after he
apparently suffered a heart attack at
the wheel of his car on Route 429 in
Sanborn.
Kenneth Witkop of 3842 Lockport
Road was pronounced dead at Niagara
Falls Memorial Medical Center about
2:30 p.m. by county coroner Oscar
Bell.
State troopers from the Wrights
Corners substation said Witkop's car
was northbound when he apparently
collapsed at the wheel. The car left the
roadway and ran into a ditch before
coming to a stop on the lawn of the
Stuart Ford home, 6663 Ward Road.

James H. Witkop, age 90, of North Tonawanda, November 24, 2014 in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a brief illness. James was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was the former President of the A. E. Gombert Lumber Co. and was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. James enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.

He was the husband of the late Althea A. and Doris Gombert. Beloved father of Jay R. (Nancy) Witkop of North Tonawanda. Grandfather of Christopher (Clare) Witkop and Rebecca (Thomas) Kitson; great-grandfather of Carson and Cameron Witkop and Kyle and Kayla Kitson. Brother of Robert (Joyce) Witkop and the late Wilbur, Fritz, Jack, and Kenneth Witkop and the late Evelyn Marten and Edith Strothmann; uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc. 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd. in North Tonawanda on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Funeral services will be held privately, interment will be in Elmlawn Cemetery.

Norman "Jack" Witkop, 73, of Lockport Road, a retired Niagara County highway maintenance supervisor, died Wednesday (Aug. 21, 1996) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda.
Born in Cambria, he moved to Wheatfield in 1945.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He was employed by the Niagara County Highway Department for 351/2 years as a highway maintenance supervisor until retiring in 1984.
Witkop was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda.
He was a charter member of Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion, and a charter member of the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company and its Benevolent Association.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Norma R. Masters; a son, Duane of North Tonawanda; two daughters, Rita Warszawski of North Tonawanda and Joan Adams of Niagara Falls; two brothers, James and Robert, both of North Tonawanda; and two sisters, Evelyn Maerten and Edith Strothmann.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Old Falls Boulevard, North Tonawanda. Burial will be in Wheatfield Cemetery.
