21952 | Niagara Gazette - 9/20/1935 Mr, and Mrs. Edmund Schoenherr, who have recently returned from their wedding trip, have taken up their residence at 2467 Pierce avenue. Before ber marriage, Mrs. Schoenherr was Miss Haak, daughter of Mr. Henry Haak and the late Mrs. Haak. Mr. Schoenherr Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Schoenherr, of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Schoenherr were married on Sept. 4 at St. Lucas Evangelical church, in Ottawa, Ont. The Rev. A. Dashner, pastor of the church, officiated and the wedding music was played by G. E. Hartwick. For the occasion the church was attractively decorated with palms snd ferns which were Interspersed with gladioli and other cut flowers. Attending the bride were Miss Wilhelmina Priebe and Miss Verna Schroeder. Miss Schroeder is a resident of this city and cousin of the groom. Mr. Schroeder was attended by his brother, Wilbert, also .of this city, and by the bride's brother, Walter Haak. The ushers were Edgar Schoenherr and Henry Haak An exquisite gown of Imported bridal satln_ was worn by the bride. Beltless, the bodice front was prettily cowled, while tiny satin buttons centered the bodice back. The very fun sleeves were tucked at the shoulders and the fullness at the wrists was held with closely-fitted cuffs, also-button-trimmed. The long, plain, straight skirt was fashioned^ in the back with four manon panels flaring very wide toward the bottom and extending Into a long train in fan formation. The folds of the long, dainty bridal veil of sills net were held In place on the head with double strands of orange blossoms. White, kid gloves and white sandals were worn and a bouquet of butterfly roses and Ulles-ofthe- valley In shower was carried. Similarly attired were the bridesmaids In quaintly-fashioned taffeta frocks. Miss Priebe being in pale yellow and Miss Schroeder in orchid shade. These beltless dresses were trimmed with tiny tucks in front and with a row of taffeta covered buttons in the back. The sleeves were short and the long skirts, fitted to the knees, were encircled with nar row rows of taffeta flares, the bottom forming a short train. Lace gloves and satin sandals of the same shade as the dresses were worn. Each bridesmaid wore a bandeau of metallic leaves on her head. Miss Priebe's bouquet was of bronze chrysanthemums, while Miss Schroeder carried yellow chrysanthemums. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at the residence of the bride's father. ALSO Niagara Gazette - 9/20/1943 Two young women, both residents of this city and both war plant employes, were injured fatally Saturday night at 8.45 o'clock when they were struck by an automobile in the River road, near Washington street, North Tonawanda, N. Y. The victims of the accident were Miss Jennie Vilardo, 17, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Vilardo. of 520 Twenty-second street, and Miss Ada Marie Pentz, also 17, who made her home with a sister at 604 Spruce avenue. Her home was in Eldred. Pa. Both young women were employes of the Local plant of the U. S. Chemical Warfare Service. Miss Vilardo was engaged to Private Gordon Hosking, of Stratford. Conn., and the announcement of her engagement was to have appeared in the Gazette today. With two companions, Marion Morasco, 24. of 1018 Fifteenth street, and Miss Mary E. McGonigle, 24. of 8516 Munson avenue, the two youthful victims of the tragedy had been on a bicycle trip and were on their way back to this city. They are said to have stopped to adjust lights on their bicycles when the automobile, operated by Colburn Blake, 43. proprietor of Lynch's park in the River road. Wheatfield. also traveling towards this city, struck Miss Vilardo and Miss Pentz. hurling them against the windshield of the car. Miss Pentz died enroute to the De- Graff Memorial hospital. North Tonawanda. while Miss Vilardo died a few minutes after having been admitted to the same institution. Blake is accused of having left the scene. He was arrested a short time later by Patrolman Frederick Hoefert, of the North Tonawanda police department, and was held by City Judge Edwin Messint today on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident without making himself known, until his release was order- ed by District Attorney John S. Marsh. He pleaded not guilty and gave bail of $1,000. Mr. Marsh said that he would present evidence in the case to the grand jury. Coroner Jacob E. Helj wig. of North Tonawanda. withheld issuing death certificates, pending completion of his investigation. He said that he asked Blake for a statement and that Blake told him that he prefererd to make no statement at that time. Miss Pentz was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pentz. of Eldred, Pa., and was employed as an accountant by the Chemical Warfare Service. Besides her parents, Miss Vilardo is survived by a brother, Lawrence. Jr., a sister. Joel Antoinette, and another brother. Anthony. She was a graduate of the Niagara Falls high school with the class of 1942 and was employed by the Chemical Warfare Service as a government inspector. Funeral services will be held from her late home tomorrow morning at 8.30 o'clock and in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary at 9 o'clock. He is survived by his wife Eleanor Fritz; seven daughters, Mrs. Henry Berndt; Mrs. Geahart Ooerss, Mrs. Henry Laucheur, Mrs, Albert Prill, Mrs. Clarence Miller, Miss Eleanor Fritz and Miss Vera Fritz; four sons, Alvin Fritz, Louis Fritz Jr., Clarence Fritz and LeRoy Fritz; a brother. George Fritz, all of the Tonawandas. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the residence. The Rev. 21977 | Niagara Gazette - 9/20/2010 NIAGARA FALLS - George "Chick" Heuer, age 89, was called to his heavenly home to be with our Lord and Savior on September 19, 2010 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on March 20, 1921 to the late George and Christine Heuer. George was predeceased by his loving wife, Helma (DeVantier) Heuer on December 26, 1986. They were united in marriage on August 3, 1946. George served in the U.S. Army in the 28th Infantry Division as a Heavy Machine Gunner during World War II. He was wounded in battle in Normandy, France on August 11, 1944, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. George was employed for 43 years at the National Grinding Wheel in North Tonawanda, retiring in 1984. He was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he held numerous offices over the years, including elder and sang for many years in the choir. He was chairman of the Building Committee during the construction of the church. He was a member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company for over 70 years and a former foreman and assistant chief. George was also a member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens. Survivors include two devoted daughters, Cynthia and Marcia Heuer of Wheatfield; a sister, Lillian (late Chester) Haseley of Sanborn and brother-in-law, Dennis (Doris) DeVantier of Wheatfield; and several nephews and a niece. In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by two brothers, Martin and Arthur Heuer and a sister, Hildegarde. Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road (Bergholz), in Wheatfield, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Philip N. Later he became a member of the Gillie Engine and Machine company. He then became local sales manager of the Weyerhauser lumber interests, a nation wide organization. After relinquishing this connection he became manager of the Hanna Lumber company in Rochester. In recent years he had been engaged in the grocery business in Kenmore. He was one of the organizers of the Y. M. C. A. here serving as president of the Board of Directors for a numbers of years. He also served on the North Tonawanda Board of Education. When the first Trust company, was known as the. First National Bank he was vice president of that institution. He was one of the organizers of Sutherland lodge, F. and A. M. He was also a member of Tonawanda Chapter and Lake Erie Commandery, Knights Templar in Buffalo. He was also a member of North Tonawanda lodge, B. P. O. Elks. ALSO North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/21/1936 A prominent resident of the Tonawandas for many years, Jacob H. Rumbold died at his home, 2518 Elmwood avenue, Kenmore, yesterday. He had been in failing health for several months, but it was not until a week ago that his condition became alarming. Mr. Rumbold was born in the Tonawandas. Educated here, he became identified with the lum- ber business early in his man- hood and in 1891 he and the late William Bellinger organized the firm of Rumbold & Bellinger to deal in lumber on a wholesale basis. When the firm was dissolved nine years later Mr. Rumbold be- came associated with the late Wil- liam and John Gillie in the Gillie Engine & Machine company. for many years he was sales man- ager of the Weyerhauser lumber interests in the Tonawandas. He remained in their employ for a number of years and then went to Rochester to take over the man- agement of the Hanna Lumber Company. President of state Assn. White in Rochester, Mr. Rum- bold became president of the New York State Lumber Salesmen's Association. In recent years he had been conducting a grocery store in Kenmore. Mr. Rumbold was president of the board of directors of the Y.M. C. A. for many years. He was a charter member of Sutherland lodge, F&AM. He was a mem- ber of Tonawanda Chapter and Lake Erie commandry, P.T. He was also a member of North Ton- awanda Lodge, No. 860, B.P.O.E., which he served as secretary for a number of years. As a member of St. Mark's Episcopal church he served many years as a vestryman. When the First Trust Company was known as the Frist National Bank, Mr. Rumbold was vice- president of the institution. On Board of Education He Served on the North Tona- wanda board of education and at one time ran for mayor of the city. He married Loretta M. Camp- bell of North Tonawanda on No- vember 22, 1888. 21994 | Niagara Gazette - 9/21/1968 LOCKPORT - Gerald J. Tremblay, 63, of 180 Corinthia St., died unexpectedly Friday (Sept. 20, 1968) at Lockport Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born in 1905 at Berlin, N. H., the son of Pierre and Helene Savar Trembfay. He had lived in Lockport since 1926, and had been employed by the United Paperboard and Carton Corp. here for 42. years. He had served as secretary-treasurer of the AFL-CIO Paper m a k e r s Union. He is survived by his wife, Anne Fuller Tremblay, a daughter, Mrs. Louis Belfield Jr. of Middleport; a son, Frederick G. Tremblay of. Westland, Mich.; three grandchildren; a brother, Rolland A. Tremblay of Lockport, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Taylor and Reynolds Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday. Joseph Sorice, 410 Burt Circle, Lewiston, and Stanley Zimmermaker, Niagara Falls. * * * GIVEN IN MARRIAGE by her father, the bride was attired in a silk linen gown with wedding ring neckline, long sleeves and Aline skirt accented with Alencon lace appliques. Matching appliques also trimmed her chapel length train. Her bouffant three-tier veilwas secured with a forward effect headpiece of lace leaves trimmed with pearls and she carried a cascade of white spider mums, roses and stephanotis. Miss Cheryl Deffine, maid of honor, was attired in an apricot gown fashioned with lace trim and ribbon at the high neckline, a high waist, and long full sleeves. Apricot flowers secured her long veil and she carried a cascade of bronze Fugi mums, orange carnations and ivy.,Similarly attired were Miss Sandra Fitzgerald, Miss Gae Ozzimo and Mrs. Dante Cipollotti, sister of the bridegroom, bridesmaids. 22000 | Niagara Gazette - 9/22/1922 Carl Toenniessen, 42 years old of 65 Filmore avenue Buffalo, was instantly killed here Monday when a shotgun he was carrying went off, the charge striking him over the heart. He was attempting to pass through a. hole in a wire fence when the trigger of. the run evidently caught in the. wire, causing the gun to accidentally discharge. It is thought that he had taken the gun and had gone out to hunt a hawk that had been making depredations among the chickens of that vlcinity When he was missed a search was made and his body was found on the farm of Mrs. Augusta Toenniessen, his sister-in-law. He was born in Wilson and resided here until 13 years of age when he moved to Buffalo where he had been shipping clerk in the John C. Posts Sons wholesale paint establish- ment for 25 years. He was here on a vacation. he is survived by his wife and one son, James, 9 years old; five brothers, Julius and Fred of Wilson, William and Walter of Buffalo and Aug- ust of Tonawanda and two sisters, Mrs. William Manweller of Buffalo and Mrs. Charles Israel of Barker.
