30801 | Sybil Joyce Baker (Pope), 85 of Niagara Falls was joyously received by her heavenly father on April 12, 2017. Born in Bessemer, Alabama on May 7, 1931 to Lemuel and Vivian Pope. Sybil’s family moved to Niagara Falls when she was a young girl. She attended and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1949. Before graduation at a dance at Calvary Baptist she met the love of her life, John W. Baker Jr. Their life began together when they exchanged vows on August 11, 1951. Together they had three beautiful daughters, Judithann Baker-Tyrrell (fiancé Mike), Janet Baker Scott (Jeff), and Jacqueline Baker. In time, their family expanded to include seven beloved grandchildren, Stephanie Hummel, Carleen Krysa-Wills(Dan), John W. Baker III, Gina Bane, Christopher Fournier, Dana Tyrrell Jr. and Carolyn Tyrrell. Additionally Sybil cherished six great-grandsons, Bryce, Tyler, Alphonso, Cameron, Daniel, John and Cal. She is also the sister of Geraldine (late Ronald) Sutter, Janet Pope and Edward Pope. She was predeceased by four siblings, Floyd (Shirley) Pope, Joeanne Wagner, Mary Sutter and Darleen Hausser. Sybil had a rich life. She was employed by WT Grants and E.I.DuPont from which she retired. She was an active member of Niagara Community Church for more than thirty years. She was passionate about her service to the church. She enjoyed a variety of roles, including volunteering in the church office, running the food pantry and being a greeter. She enjoyed gardening and those who got to experience her gardens marveled at the beauty she was able to create. She loved reading, crocheting, baking but most of all being with her family. She was joyously reunited with her late husband John W. Baker Jr. in heaven. He predeceased her on April 9, 2000. Family will welcome guests to M.J. Born in the town of Amherst, he had resided in Tonawanda the greater part of his life. He was a charter member and a former president of the Eldredge Bicycle Club and a member of Tonawandas Aerie, No. 1411, F.O.E. Surviving are his wife, Mamie, nee Rogers; a son, Ralph of Tonawanda; four daughters, Mrs. Ervin O'Brien of the town of Tonawanda, Mrs. Bernice Mollnow and the Misses Mildred and Marion Harmon of Tonawanda, four grandchildren, five brothers, Valentine of New York City, Frank and William N. of Tonawanda, Edward of North Tonawanda and Aloysius of Honeoye Lake, N. 30805 | Sylvia (nee Siezega) Galas, age 70, a life long resident of the Tonawandas, passed away Saturday, July 8 in Hospice care after a long battle with cancer. Born on November 21, 1946 in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Hattie (nee Krzywda) Siezega. Sylvia was a member of St. Timothy's R.C. Church as well as their Rosary Society. She loved music, especially in church, as well as Polish and Celtic music. She was part of the Arien's singing group in her younger days. Sylvia was always singing and smiling. She loved traveling and was an artist. Her biggest passion, however, were her children and grandchildren. She never missed a game or event, even if she wasn't feeling up to it. She was their biggest fan. She was the loving wife of Michael for more than 52 years; mother of Debbie (Bruce) Milleville, Tammy (Sean) Kelly, Jessica (Christopher) Warthling, Mandy (Joseph) Lofft; Babcie of Benjamin & Emily Kelly, Carly, Mikaela & Ryan Milleville, Madison, Joshua & Kennedy Warthling, Alex, Jason & Kayleigh Lofft; sister of Jeanette (Ronald) Baron and the late William Siezega; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Sylvia and Mickey loved to travel and their adventures took them all over North America. Some of her favorite adventures were Hawaii, the Alaskan cruise, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and their road trip through Newfoundland to Labrador. 30806 | Sylvia Carol Hilts, 85, of Sanborn, NY, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 19, 2018 while under the care of Niagara Hospice. She was born on October 20, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Edward and Adelia (Ferchen) Eggert. Mrs. Hilts was employed for several years with Union Carbide and briefly for the Tonawanda News. Music was a strong passion of hers, singing in the Niagara Chorale of NCCC and Festival Chorus with Douglas Wendt, Conductor. She also sang in many local church choirs for Christmas and Easter Cantatas as well as being guest soloist for area church services, weddings and special occasions. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She enjoyed reading and cooking, especially preparing the fish and wild game associated with the hunting and fishing adventures of her husband and sons. She also loved to travel around the country with her husband Bill, attending various conferences and conventions. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her strong Christian faith carried her through 85 years. Mrs. Hilts is survived by her husband of 63 years William R. Hilts, they were married in March of 1955, her four children William D. (Sandra) of Lockport, Richard E. (Lynette) of North Tonawanda, David M. (Julie) of Burt and Susan Davignon of North Tonawanda, loving grandmother to Kiel and Owen Davignon, Christian Hilts and Natalie Adelia Hilts, step-grandmother to Marla (Kyle) Costello, Keith (Brandy) Brong and Kim Brong, as well as 12 additional step-grandchildren, a brother Noel (Joan) Eggert of North Carolina, also several nieces and nephews. Lutheran Church in Walmore, where she was active in the church women's organizations and church choir. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting and gardening. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Herbert A. She was an active lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore, and was employed at International Minerals & Chemical Corporation, Boeing Company, and the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, in Niagara Falls. Sylvia loved music, reading, getting together with friends, and visiting with her precious grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Dobbertean, on September 7, 2001. They were married on October 10, 1959. Also predeceased by an infant sister, Ellen, in 1945. 30814 | Syracuse NY Journal - 1/4/1930 Defying the mysterious bombhurlers who have thrown explosive missies at his home at 100 Olive st. five times in the last three months. Homer Michael Boccaccio, 22, and Miss Margaret Ann Corkran, 19, 100-1/2 Olive st were married In St. Brigid's Church this morning. Although both have narrowly escaped injury in the series of bombings, which created a furor in the west end of the city, the couple decided not to allow a small thing like five bombings to interrupt the course of their romance. An one time during the investigation of the bombings police were working on the theory that the romance, which was revealed in the city clerk's office, might have been the cause of the bombing. They could find no evidence to substantiate this belief. The first explosion occurred on Oct. 4. The second took place on the following night, the third three days later, another on Oct the most recent one on Dec. 18. Miss Corkran was sitting in the front window of the house when the last explosion occurred. Although the building was shaken by the blast, she escaped uninjured. Homer Boccaccio was in the home, owned by his brother, Anthony, a former deputy sheriff, on several of the occasions when bombs were exploded. They were married by Rev. Edward A. McDowell, assistant pastor of St. Brigid's Church. Miss Corkr ran said she is the daughter of George W. During World War II, he became a member of the 5th Ranger Battalion. During his distinguished military service he was awarded the Bronze Star. Upon discharge, he enlisted in the Washington State Army National Guard. He co-founded Television Service Center in 1952. Bob owned and managed this company along with his wife for 47 years, until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of Immanuel Celebration Church for 57 years during which he served as a Sunday school teacher, choir director, church moderator, day care board member, and Deacon. 30848 | TERRY A. GREEN, age 75 of Niagara Falls, NY and formerly of the City of Tonawanda, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 10, 2023. Loving husband of 55 years to Deborah A. (nee Stahl) Green, father of Scott (Renata) Green, Melisa (Karsten) Schwerinski and Christopher (Jodie) Green, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Son of the late Winfield and Edith Green and brother of Mary (William) Whitlock. Terry was a 1966 graduate of Tonawanda High School. Terry enjoyed his back yard garden and also his pet dogs that he loved throughout his life. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday Sept. 16, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at JOHN O. ROTH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts) in Tonawanda, where a Prayer Service will be held at 1:00 PM following the visitation. Everyone welcome to attend. The Rev. 30849 | TERRY G. FRITZ, age 80, of Pendleton, NY, entered into rest on February 13, 2021. He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, to Glenn E. and Rose E. (West) Fritz. Terry leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Jill M. (Phillips) Fritz; two children, Tracy (Dale) Selbert and Jeffrey Fritz; grandchildren, Chad Selbert, Amanda (Nick) Gonnella, and Rachael Fritz; a brother, Ronald Fritz; brother-in-law, Robert (Karen) Phillips; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.After high school, Terry served honorably on active duty in the United States Navy, on the USS Yorktown, from 1958-1962. He held various jobs afterwards, including ownership of a service station, tractor trailer driver, Ken-ton adult education instructor, teaching basic auto mechanics, and then joined the 107th. New York Air National Guard in Niagara Falls, working full time as a mechanic and retired as a Master Sergeant. After his retirement, Terry remained busy and worked part time driving dump truck, shuttle vans, school and tour buses. He enjoyed hunting, motorcycling, RVing, bean bag baseball and traveling the United States with Jill by his side, seeing all 50 states. Terry volunteered for Twin Cities Meals on Wheels, and was a Salvation Army bell ringer. He belonged to the USS Yorktown Association, the RATS/RAGS, the Pendleton Veterans Association, the NT High School Reunion Committee, and the American Legion Post No. 2 in Wauchula, FL. Terry loved his family, friends, and living life to the fullest. He will be in our hearts and memories always.Private services were held in the DuBois Funeral Home, Wheatfield, with the family.
