31902 Visitation for Virgil J. Guimond, 79, of Manteno, will be from 2-7 p.m. today, with a wake service at 2 p.m.,
at the Clancy- Gernon Funeral Home, Manteno.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Manteno, by the Rev. Mark Fracaro.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Manteno.
Memorials may be made to the Cemetery Association St. Joseph Church, where he was a member for more than 40 years.
Mr. Guimond died suddenly Thursday (Nov. 27, 1997) at St. Mary's Hospital emergency room.
He was born July 30, 1918 in Manteno, the son of Alfred and Cordelia Mathew Guimond.
Surviving are his wife, the former Catherine J. Boyd, whom he married Aug. 10, 1942 in Tampa, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodger and Candace Guimond of Ione, Cal. and Mark and Cathy Guimond of Manteno; two daughters, Virginia Guimond and Martha Guimond, both of Dallas, Texas; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Rita Blanchette of Bourbonnais, Aldine and Gordon Brown of Franklin Park and Luella Rockway of Kankakee; and four grandchildren.
Deceased are three sisters, Inez, Helen and Isabelle.
Mr. Guimond was resident engineer for the new phase construction of the Waste Treatment facility in Manteno. He had worked in construction all of his life. He had farmed in the Manteno area.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, served as a French interpreter and helped develop the radar used by air controllers today. He was a member of the Manteno American Legion, VFW and Manteno Apostles Table.
A graduate of Manteno High Schoo, he held the record for the 220 yard dash.
Mr. Guimond was on the County Planning Commission; chariman of the Manteno Planning Committee for more than 20 years; member of the Rock Creek Draining District Board; helped with Matneno Youth Soccer; former member of the Manteno Village Board; member and former president of the Chamber of Commerce; former president of the Manteno P.T.A. He wrote and published the History of Manteno Township and was on the Illinois Diversatech Steering Committee.

31905 Vito Nicholas “Nick” Pera, 89, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2020, surrounded by his beloved family at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Enicandro and Anna (Quaranta) Pera.
Nick was raised in Niagara Falls and a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. On January 27, 1951, he married Lois Vivian (Beemer) Pera at St. Joseph Church. Mrs. Pera predeceased him on April 5, 2016 after 65 memorable years together. 
Nick served during the Korean War in the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1957. He continued to serve in the United States Army Reserves as a First Sergeant for 32 years prior to his honorable discharge in 1990. 
Nick had a strong work ethic and was employed for over 30 years by E.I. DuPont Company as a millwright, and later retired as a skilled craftsman. He loved to garden and took great pride in maintaining his beautiful residence. Above all, he was a devoted family man who always made sure his family was truly cared for. Mr. Pera will be deeply missed by the many hearts he touched.
Mr. Pera is survived by his children, Deborah Leilani (Jeffrey Dudzinski) Pera, Susan (Ed Shaw) Watson, Nicholas Pera and Kevin Pera; grandchildren, Nicole (Andy) Van Dusen, Robert Sweitzer, Holly Beth Sweitzer-Allein, John V. (Megan) Kowalski, Douglas Ryan Watson and Kaelie Just; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Madelyn, Joseph, Niko, Jade, Evalynn and Genevieve; his siblings Donald (Dorothy) Pera, Virginia Pera, Andrew (late Jan) Pera and Louise Pera; as well as many nieces and nephews.

31906 Vito V. Alongi, 94, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Anthony and Phyllis (Cavallaro) Alongi; and beloved husband of Adeline (Parcey) Alongi.
Vito enlisted into the United States Navy in 1944 and served on the USS Missouri. He witnessed the surrender of the Japanese, which ended World War II on September 2, 1945. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, Vito returned to Niagara Falls and began working at his family’s business, Alongi Motors, where he worked alongside his brother, Stephen for many years. After many dedicated years to the community, Vito retired in 1998.
Vito was a former member of the Century Club, the Niagara County Police and Judges Club, as well as the Alps Club. He also was a devoted volunteer at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital for the last several years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards with his friends, tending to his garden and restoring old cars. Above all, Mr. Alongi especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Alongi is survived by his children, Anthony (Cammy) Alongi and Michael Alongi; his step-children, Barry (Melanie) Dunstan and Brian (Janet) Dunstan; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis (late Victor) Conti, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Carmella (late Thomas) Tedesco and Stephen (Carol) Alongi.

31907 Vivian B. Pearson passed away November 25, 2017 in Eastern Niagara Hospital. Born November 6, 1925 in Lockport she was the daughter of James and Catherine (Purtel) McKeever living on a farm wither her ten siblings. Vivian enjoyed playing BINGO, working in her flower gardens, walking down at Wide Waters Marina, and especially enjoyed having visitors with a cup of coffee or tea waiting. She was a member of the Red Hater Club. Vivian was predeceased by her husband Herbert G. Pearson on October 4, 1973.
Vivian is survived by her daughter-in-law Linda Pearson; her grandchildren David (Nicole) Pearson, Cindy A. Pearson, and Daniel (Rachael) Pearson; great grandchildren Victoria (William) Hackett, Jeremiah Pearson, Caleb Pearson, and Kyle Pearson; great-great grandchild Kayla Joy Pearson; siblings Geraldine (late George) Adams, LeRoy (Shirley) McKeever, and Edison (late Joanne) McKeever; also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased her sons Robert W. Pearson, Franklin G. Pearson, and David A. Pearson; and siblings Elizabeth Brauer, Catherine Bradenburg, Dorothy Pompa, Gladys Bascom, Evelyn McGovern, Alice McKeever, and James McKeever.

Born June 29, 1933 in Wilson she was a daughter of Glenn and Elise Rohring, sister of Janeta Fredericks who predeceased October of 2015. Married Ralph Austin August of 1954 he passed April of 2009. Viv graduated Wilson Central High School worked at the Wilson Bank Truesdell Hardware and Calkins Lumber in Sanborn with retirement as office manager and bookkeeper. Vandenbosch, 30, was killed in ac-
tion in Belgium on January 30, it
was disclosed today in a War de-
partment notification to his wife,
Betty Vandenbosch, of Rochester,
N.Y.
The doldier, who was serving with
the Gilder Infantry, sustained
wounds during the invasion of Nor-
mandy on June 9. In October, 1944,
he was wounded again in Holland.
He had been awarded the Purple
Heart.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
John H. VandenBosch, of Roches-
ter, and is sthe father of three sons
and one daughter.

Force in England is another brother,

31920 Vogt, Jacob B., was born at Niagara Falls, N. Y., April 11, 1852, a son of Jacob J. Vogt, a prosperous farmer of that place, now retired. Jacob B. Vogt was educated in the public schools at Niagara Falls and De Veaux College and later took a course in Bryant & Stratton's Business College at Buffalo. After finishing his schooling in 1871, he returned to his father's farm and remained there until 1873, when upon coming of age his father set off for him from his farm 150 acres of cleared land, which he cultivated and from which he received the proceeds until 1882, at which time he purchased that plot of land from his father and continued at farming, and in 1889 bought twenty acres more of the home farm. During the land boom of 1891 he sold 165 acres from his farm at a good round sum an acre and built for himself a handsome residence on the remaining five acres, where he now resides, leading the quiet life of a retired farmer. Mr. Vogt has dealt extensively in real estate and has been successful in all of his operations. October 18, 1876, he married Mary S. Whitney, a daughter of John and Elizabeth (Garrett) Whitney of Niagara Falls, and they have four children, J. Whitney, Catherine E., Charles W. and Clarence B.

Falls resident who died in Florida
on April 13, leaving an estate of upwards
of $50,000, was admitted to probate
by County Judge-Surrogate
William A. Gold, in surrogate's court,
at City Hall, today, and the widow,
Mrs. Mary S. Vogt, 4810 Lewiston road,
and a son, Clarence B. Vogt, Brooklyn,
were named Joint executors.
The value of the estate is listed
nominally In the petition for probate
as $1,000 and upwards personal
property and $1,000 and upwards
realty. Under the terms of the will a
$40,000 trust fund is created, with
the income going to the widow. A
daughter, Dorothy May Vogt, at home.
is bequeathed $1,000 and all of the real
property Is left to the widow.
Bequests of $500 each are made to
the following four grand children:
Charles F. and May Elizabeth Ackerson,

NORTH TONAWANDA, April 19. - Ernest Friellng, 73, of 14 Filner avenue, died yesterday at the Meyer Memorial hospital, Buffalo. Born in Wolcottsburg, he had lived here most of his life. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, the Rescue Fire company and the North Tonawanda Volunteer Firemen's association. Surviving are two brothers, Herman and Frederick, this city, two sisters, Mrs. Marie Hahn, of Tonawanda, and Mrs. Herman Rhode, this city. Last rites will be held tomorrow at 3:30 pm. at the home with the Rev. F. A. Hinners officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven cemetery.

Of Silver Creek, New York, formerly of North Tonawanda, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2024, surrounded by family members. He is predeceased by his wife, Joyce R. Vona, parents, John R Vona Sr and Ruth Vona, and his beloved son, John R Vona III. Dr. Vona lived life for his family, "La Familia." Nothing gave him more joy than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild Tony. He completed school at the University of Buffalo's Dental School in 1961 and immediately entered the US Army Reserve Dental division at Ft Riley, Kansas. After an honorable discharge, "Doc" set down roots in Silver Creek, NY. He had a thriving dental practice for over 45 years and continued to work well into his mid-80s for the Resource Center in Dunkirk, NY, where he retired after working 61 years as an area dentist. He prided himself on building relationships and patient care with a splash of humor. Besides his dental talents, he was also an athlete and musician. He played on UB's basketball and baseball teams, for which he was recently inducted into the Western New York Baseball Hall of Fame. A fifty-year member of Tri-County Country Club, "Doc" loved his golf, always looking forward to his annual outing with his Ganson Street boys and trips to Hershey, Pennsylvania. His musical prowess on his saxophone was remarkable, constantly filling the house with his smooth jazz sounds. For several years, he played with the New Horizon Band of WNY, performing in their seasonal concerts at Fredonia SUNY's Mason Hall. Dr. Vona is survived by his four children, sons Dr. David Vona (wife Judy), and Daniel Vona (Karin Scott) and two daughters, Linda Hart (husband Chris), Sandy Stewart (husband Randy); Granddaughters, Kimberly Tomasik (husband Zach), Haley Hart, Samantha Stewart, grandsons Brandon Hart and Matthew Vona, great-grandchild Anthony (Tony) and sisters, Carol Robek and Janet Remzi. His family and friends will forever cherish his memory. Although his presence will be deeply missed, he will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 20  at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 165 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY at 1:00 pm and a reception will immediately follow at the family's residence, 12202 Ludeman Dr., Silver Creek, NY. Born February 12, 1913 in Cambria, he was the son of the late Warren and Elizabeth (nee Fitzgerald) Smith.Lincoln was married to Ruth Myers November 11, 1939 at Our Lady of the Rosary R.C. Church in Wilson. Mrs. Smith died January 7, 1999. Lincoln had worked in the maintenance department at Wilson Central Schools, retiring in 1976 after 10 years. He had previously worked for Hill-Shardon Oil in Lockport delivering oil during the 50's and 60's. Lincoln was a charter member of the Wilson Conservation Club. He was a member of the Wilson Fire Company and their Fire Police, the Newfane Golden Agers and the Wilson Golden Agers. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowler. Lincoln enjoyed playing Euchre with his many friends.Lincoln is survived by his children, Karen (the late James) Welch of Wilson, Charolette (Robert) Hartis of Charlotte, NC, Lois Connor of Newfane and Wayne (Jeanne) Smith of Chandler, AZ. 31928 W. Roger Wendt, 97, passed away surrounded by his children, Sunday, January 29, 2023. Born in Pekin, NY on November 8, 1925, he was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Sanborn, NY.
He retired as a pipefitter from Harrison Radiator, Lockport, NY in 1988. He and his predeceased wife, Betty Fay (Lymburner) lived primarily in central Florida in a home on Oakwood Golf Course, Lake Wales. He was an avid golfer, gardener, enjoyed investing and was a loyal fan of the Buffalo Bills and Orlando Magic.
He is survived by his five children: Linda J. Miller (Thomas) of Williamsburg, VA, Douglas R. Wendt (Debra) of Pendleton, NY, Nadine A. Stom (Glenn)of Indian Lake Estates, FL, Gregg D. Wendt (Susan) of Sanborn, NY, Rodney J. Wendt (Karen) of North Tonawanda, NY; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He is loved, was loved and will always be loved by family and friends as we celebrate his life. We should follow his example and enjoy life as he did, one day at a time. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

WHEATFIELD - Agnes V. Walck, of Wheatfield, died Friday in Elderwood Health Care Center at CrestWood. She was 95.
Born Agnes Pfohl in the Town of Wheatfield, she attended local schools. She was a devoted homemaker and a lifelong, active member of St. Peter's Evangelical
Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Women of the Church.
She also was a member of the Sanbornite Senior Citizens and enjoyed many trips with the group.
Her husband of 52 years, Theodore J., died in 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Hildebrandt of Sanborn; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 A.M. today in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore Road. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his fiancee, Jennifer Mason of Houston, Texas; brother, James H. In August 1944, Wally enlisted in the Navy at the old post office building in downtown Buffalo, followed by Boot Camp at Sampson Naval Training Station atSeneca Lake, NY and a 12 week Radio School at Bainbridge MD. He served in thePacific Theater aboard the USS Arkansas BB33 and the USS Baldwin DD 624. In June1946, Wally returned to Niagara Falls, graduated from LaSalle High School andwent to work as a Mail Boy for American Salesbook Co. (later became MooreBusiness Forms). Spring 1947, he transferred to the NY National Guard and drilledat the Armory on Main Street. After his discharge from the National Guard, Wallygraduated from the Detroit College of Traffic Management and worked at Autolitewhere he met, then married the love of his life, Margaret Jean MacAllister.Following Autolite, he worked in the traffic departments at Hooker Chemical andThe Upson Company in Lockport. While at Upson, Wally was hired part-timeby Franklin Traffic Service (FTS) in Sanborn. After Upson closed he worked at FTS full time. Where he retired after working for many years. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran church in Niagara Falls. Wally enjoyed hunting with his family. In his later years if he shot a deer, over the two-way radio he’d say, “Boys I have work for you, but first, bring me a sandwich and beer”. He and Jean spent summers with family and friends at their homes in Saranac Lake and later on Lake Ontario. In his retirement Wally enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing and a few weeklong fishing trips in Canada. Private First Class Wallace C. Neubauer, formerly of Cayuga road, Route No. 1, this city, was killed in action on Mindanao, Philippine Islands, June 19, according to information received by his mother, Mrs. Mildred Neubauer Bender, of 710 101st street. He was a member of the Coast Artillery Corps of the U. S. Army. He was inducted January, 1942. A graduate of Trott Vocational school, he was employed by Buffalo Bolt company, North Tonawanda, before his army service. One brother, Private First Class Lawrence E. Neubauer, is in the Army Air corps, California. A sister,

Walmore, June 12.-Mrs. Augusta Retzlaff, 79 years old, widow of Frank Retzlaff, died late Saturday at the family home here. Mrs. Retzlaff is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Amalie Beutel and Mrs. Albert Jagow, both of this vicinity; one son, Rudolph Retzlaff, of Walmore; one brother, John Walck, of Bergholz, nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. 31944 Walter E. Strasburg Received Purple Heart in WW I
Walter E. Strasburg, who received a Purple Heart while serving in the U.S. Army during World War I, died in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Monday (Feb. 24, 1986). He was 89. A resident of Cayuga Drive, he was born in Niagara Falls' LaSalle area. Strasburg was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz and a charter member of the John J. Welch Post 381 American Legion. He worked at the Nabisco Co. for 49 years as a supervisor until retiring in 1966. He is survived by his wife, Dollie L. (Hartman} Strasburg and many nieces and nephews. Three sisters and five brothers died earlier. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Hamp Funeral Home, Adam and Seymour streets, Tonawanda, with the Rev. Lyle E. Larson of St. James Lutheran Church officiating. 31945 Walter E. Toellner age 88, of the Town of Wheatfield, April 9, 2009 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.Walter was a WWII veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a survivor of the HMS Rohna which was sunk on Thanksgiving 1943 resulting in the largest loss ever of American life at sea. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1451, the V.F.W. and was a 69-year member of the Adams Fire Co. Walter was active in Wheatfield politics, serving as an Assessor for 8 years and serving on the Town of Wheatfield Planning Board. He had worked a crane operator for Schebell Ready Mix for 20 years and retired from the Niagara County Water Authority. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He was the husband of the late Ruth E. Toellner who died in 2008. LOCKPORT - A Middleport man was fatally injured when he fell 15 feet onto a cement floor in a steam plant here about midnight Wednesday. Walter F. Mietz, 58, of 6361 Meadville Road, Middleport, was taken to Lockport Memorial Hospital by ambulance and immediately transferred to Sisters Hospital at Buffalo, where he died about 3:15 a.m. today. At the Buffalo hospital, he had been taken into surgery and died in the intensive care unit.
Had Climbed Ladder
The accident occurred at the South Street plant of the New York State Gas and Electric Corp. A spokesman for the utility said Mietz, who was working the late shift, had apparently climbed a metal stationary ladder to read the gauges, which tell the amount of coal being used and other data necessary in his job as stoker fireman. He had been employed at the plant since 1952. The spokesman said there were one or two other men in the plant at the time who summoned the rescue squad of the fire department. The utility, according to the spokesman, is conducting an investigation into the accident, the first of its kind. Native of Royalton Mietz was born in the Town of Royalton, April 30, 1910, the son of Herman and Christina Krebs Mietz. He is survived by his wife,, the former Irene Smith; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Hellert of Middleport, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Charles (Linda) Peterson of Columbus, Ohio; and John Hellert of Middleport. Friends may call at the Bernhardt Funeral Home, Akron. Services wil be held at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Rev. Hilbert J. Huth will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Ridge Cemetery, Royalton.

31947 Walter F. Smolen III of the Town of Wheatfield, entered into rest on January 23, 2022 at the age of 74. Walt was born on May 1, 1947, in North Tonawanda New York. He was the cherished son of the late Helen and Anthony Smolen Sr. Walt is survived by a brother, Anthony (Christine) Smolen and a sister, Marie (late Robert) Fleischman. He was a loving husband to the late Catherine Smolen.

Walt was the father of Walter Smolen IV, Marc Smolen, Sharon (Joseph) Kramer and Elizabeth (Casey Becker) Fedeson. Walt was an adoring grandpa and papa to Meaghan, Ryan, Zachary, Kayleigh, Cararain, Audramoon, Grant, Amanda, Aiden, Annessa, Joey, Cecilia and Sienna. He was the great-grandpa of Aubrianna, Felix, Reyna, and Dominic. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Walt attended North Tonawanda High School and Niagara County Community College.
He worked as a millwright at the General Motors Tonawanda Powertrain Plant and was a member of the UAW Local 774.

Walt was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the La Salle Sportsmen’s Club and the North Tonawanda Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 2163. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved travel, camping, kayaking and the outdoors. His many talents included wine making, photography, woodworking and home renovation.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m.- 6 p.m. on Saturday January 29th at Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda. A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Private interment at White Chapel Memorial Park.

31948 Walter G. Belling, age 85, of Pendleton, passed away Friday November 6, 2009 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport. Mr. Belling was born March 16, 1924, son of the late Henry and Auguste (nee Ewald) Belling. Mr. Belling attended Tonawanda High School, he served in the United States Army during WWII, he was a PFC with the 511th Airborne Signal Corps, serving from January 23, 1943 until his discharge on February 17, 1946. Mr. Belling was a self employed contractor, he was the Town of Pendleton Building Inspector, he also had worked in the display department for Sears and Roebuck. Mr. Belling was a active life time member of St. Martin Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was chairman of the renovation committee, in 1985 remodeling St. Martin Church, he designed and made the wooden cross for the church's altar. He headed the committee to build the addition to Pendleton's Historical Society where he also taught wood carving classes. He was a member of the Niagara Frontier all Airborne Chapter and it's Honor Guard. Mr. Belling was a expert wood carver, specializing in birds, he had built two homes and most of the furniture in them. Haseley was a lifelong resident of this city and a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He was employed by the Wurlitzer Company for 50 years. He is survived by brother Paul F. (Alma) Haseley of Niagara Falls; two nieces, two great-nieces, and two great-nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Fretthold Funeral Inc., 1241 Oliver St., with the Rev. A.W. 31950 Walter Glenwood Wade, formerly of Munson Avenue and currently of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at his home. He was 92. He was born in West Decatur, Pennsylvania on December 1, 1923, a son of the late Herschel and Mary (Myers) Wade. He attended Pennsylvania schools and then served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Wade moved to Niagara Falls and worked at Stauffer Chemical for 25 years and then at Olin Chemical from where he retired as a chemical operator.

Mr. Wade was a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

He is survived by two children: John R. (Donna) Cooper of Virginia and Sharon Docteur of Minnesota, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 5 siblings: Josephine (Jack) Lengen, Robert (Donna) Wade, Lois (Irvin) Brydges, John (Helga) Wade and Alice (James) Helton.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Mary Louise Wade (2015) and his brother Herschel Wade.

Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue on Monday from 4-7 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 A.M. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 616 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery in Pendleton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Wade’s name to St. Stephen’s.
