of Lamont, died yesterday
(May 31, 1972) in Wyoming
County Community Hospital,
Warsaw.
She bad been hospitalized
for eight months. She was the
former Lena Perry and was a
native of Silver Springs.
She leaves ber husband,
Howard Billings; two sons,
Forrest of Perry Center and
Royce of Castile; two daughters.
Mrs. Virginia Snyder of
Castile, and Mrs. Donald Blankenship
of Perry; two brothers.
Darwin Perry of Oakland
and Dewey of Dansville; 10

Mary J.Grohs, wife of Louis A.
Grohs, Jr., of Scottsvllle, , passed
away at her home on Monday
morning, June 4th, after a week's
illness of pneumonia. She was
born in the town of Wethersfield
July 9, 1895, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Bennion.
In 1914 she married Louis A.
Grohs, Jr., of Orangeville. She
leaves to mourn her death, her
husband and four children, Eve-
lyn, Norma, Janet and baby aged
3 months; also her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Bennion of Church-
ville; eight brothers and three
sisters, Owen Bennion of Canada;
Joseph Bennion of Warsaw, Ches-
ter Bennion of Castile, David,
Donald, Frank, Raymond and
Wayne Bennion of Scottsville;
Mrs. Roy Tuttle of Johnsonburg;
Mrs. Homer Nevinger and Mrs.
William Witter of Niagara Falls.
The funeral was held at her late
home on Wednesday at two o'clock
and the burial was at Mumford.

Mrs.. Louise Davenport of 777
Clinton St., South, Rochester, a
practical nurse at Iola Sanitarium
died in Highland hospital in Ro-
chester on Saturday, Dec. 27th.
She was born in North Java on
September 5, 1909, the daughter
of Roy N. and Catherine Bosseler
Bookmiller. Surviving are three
children, Allen Roggen, Gordon
Roggen and Joyce Roggen of Ro-
chester, her parents of Warsaw,
and six brothers and four sisters
as follows: Mrs. Paul Roob, North
saw, William Bookmiller of North
Java, John Bookmiller of Snyder,
Raymond Bookmiller of Orlando,
Fla., Mrs. Eugene Sheer, Charles
Bookmiller, George Bookmiller of
Warsaw, Mrs. Aldie Peron of At-
tica, Mrs. Ronald Eccleston and
Roy Bookmiller, Jr., of Warsaw.
The funeral was held at St.
Michael's church on Tuesday, Dec.
30th at 9:30 a.m. following prayers
at 9:00 a.m. at the Weeks Fu-
neral Home, with the Rev. John
F. Donohue officiating. The burial
was in St. Michael's cemetery in
Warsaw.

Monroe T Blood, of 43 Washington
street .Warsaw, passed away
suddenly Monday morning,
January 9th at 2:30 a. m. He had
been employed by the Erie Railroad
as telegraph operator and. at
the time of his retirement in
March 1948 was chief train dis-
patcher. He was born in Linden
on September 9, 1880, the son of
Oscar M. and Mary Eastland
Blood and in 1904 he married Beu-
lah Monroe who survive him. He
also leaves a daughter, Mrs. John
Wheeler of Springfield, Ohio, and
two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Kidder of
Alexander and Miss Mary J Blood
of Rochester. The funeral was
held at the Weeks Funeral Home
on Wednesday, January 11th at 3
p.m. with the burial in the War-
saw cemetery. The Rev. Thomas
E. Asbury, pastor of the United
church, of which he was a mem-
ber, officiated. Mr. Blood was also
a member of the Order of Tele-
graphers. He had lived in Warsaw
forty-five years and three months.

Tuttle, daughter of Roy H. and
Nellie Tuttle ahd Maynard Baetzold,
son of Eli and Mildred Warren
Eaetzold, all of Johnsonburg
took place Saturday afternoon at
Sickley's Corners, the Rev. Pang
officiating.
They were attended by Mr. and
Mrs. Forrest Gilbert of Rochester.
Immediately following the cere-
mony, a reception was held at
Valley Inn, Warsaw. Guests pres-
ent were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Swartz and Cecil McTaggert of
Buffalo and Miss Margaret Baet
zold of Johnsonburg.
The happy couple left later in
the day for a trip to Thousand
Islands and Northern New York.
They will make their home in
Johnsonburg.

Roy H. Turtle of Johnsonburg,
a lifelong- resident of that area
died in." the Wyoming County
Community Hospital on Sunday,
October 16th. He was born in
Johnsonburg, December 4, 1877,
the son of Orange ; and Mary
Smith Tuttle and on March 4,
1914 he married Nellie Bennion
who survives him. He also leaves
six grandchildren and a cousin,
Orrin. Lawton of Attica.
The funeral was held at the
Weeks Funeral Home on Wednesday,
October 19th at 2 p. m.
with the interment in the John-
sonburg Cemetery. The Rev. Paul
Gingrich officiating. Mr. Tuttle
was a member of the Johnsonburg
Methodist Church. Mr. Tuttle retired
as postmaster at Johnsonburg
recently after serving for
thirty-three years.

Mrs. Rhode E. Browne, 83, of
25 Livingstone St., Warsaw, died
Wednesday Oct. 14, in the King
Manor Nursing Home in Warsaw
following a long illness.
She was born in Napanee, On-
tario, Canada, Oct 9, 1881,, and
had lived in this area for many
years. She was the widow of R.
Grant Browne.
Mrs. Browne operated the
Browne Dress Shop in Warsaw for
a number of years .until her r e t i re
merit in 1957. S h e w a s a member
of the Warsaw Methodist Church,
the Women's Society of Christian
Service and t h e Mizpah Class of
the church.
She leaves two sons, Grant
M., of Niagara Falls, Donald C.
of Warsaw; a daughter, Mrs.
Robert Conger of Warsaw; six
grandchildren and two greatgrandchilden.
Sevices were conducted at 8
p. m. Friday at t h e Weeks Funeral

at the Burdett and Sanford Funeral
Home in Oakfield at 10 o'

the Requiem High mass.
Burial was in St. Nicholas Cemetery
in North Java with the Rev.
John H. Trulin officiating.
The bearers, all grandsons of

George Bosseler Jr: and Robert
Bosseler.

Albert J. Brass, born and educated
in Strykersville died suddenly,
Sunday, Jan. 24, 1960 at
Mercy Hospital after suffering a
heart attack, while attending the
8:30 service at the Immaculate
Conception church, East Aurora.
A veteran of Wbrld War 1. Mr.
Brass served as a Sergeant with
the 77th Division in France and
he was a member of Strykersville
Post 637, American Legion.
Honorary member of East Aurora
Post 362, American Legion and a
Past President of the Posts Last
Mans Club composed of World
War 1 veterans. > __
Mr. Brass was a "menSber-of Ar
cade Barracks 1408, Veterans of
World War 1 East Aurora Lodge
370 Loyal Order of Moose and a
past president of the Immacu
late Conception Holy Name Society
For, many years Mr. Brass was
memorial Day parade marshall
and at the impressive closing cer
emonies at Oakwood cemetery he
was delegated to raise the Flag
to Full-mast as the East Aurora
High School band played the na-
tional anthem.
Mr. Brass was a son of Frank
and Elizabeth Brass born Oct. 26,
1894 in Strykersville, where the
Brass family lived as the father
Frank Brass ran a black smith
shop, who many will remember
the trfiop, doing horse shoeing
and all repair worki,
Albert became associated with
W. A. Kelver Studebaker Agency
at 765 Main St., East Aurora
as Service manager in 1920 and
continued in that position until
his' death. Before becoming service
manager 40 years ago he dp
erated the star mail route for sev
eral years between East Aurora
and North Java.
Besides his wife Mrs. Agnes
Glasner Brass, he is survived by
a daughter, Mrs. Howard Carrow
of East Aurora, a son Ronald
G., East Aurora, four brothers,
Luke of Arcade, Frank of Oneida,
Maurice of Niagara Falls, Edward
of-Buffalo and Fouk Grand
children.

ming County Community Hospital
on Sunday, March 19th. He had
recently been night watchman of
the Warsaw Button Company plant
but previous to*that had been employed
at the Morton Salt plant in
Silver Springs for twenty-five
years and then had worked as a
house painter in Warsaw. He was
born in Wethersfield on" October
7, 1888; the son of John and: Eliza
Dumbleton Morgan, and on Dee,
20, 19,11 he married Ida Billings
who survives him. He also leaves
three children, Mrs. Leo Simard,
Donald Morgan and Mrs. Kenneth
Bagg of Warsaw, give grandchild-
ren and four sisters and a brother
as follows: Mrs. Howard Gibson,
Nunda, Mrs. George Carney, War-
saw, Mrs. Thomas Hess, Bliss, Mrs.
Elmer Aiken, Mrs. Lester Tallman,
and Melvin Morgan of Silver
Springs.
The funeral was held at the
Weeks Funeral Home on Tuesday,
March 21st at 3:30 p. m. with the
Rev. E. T. Rowe officiating. The
interment was in -the Warsaw
cemetery.

Ezekial Billings, a life long resident
of the town, passed away last Thursday
at the home of John Mead in War
saw where he and Mrs. Billings had
been staying since last October,
Mr. Billings was born in Castile,
February 18th 1852 eldest son'of Par-
Son and Sarah Phillips Billings. He
was twice married first to Abigail
Hutchinson who died in 1907. In 1910
he married Hattie Alvers who survives
him. Besides the wife, he leaves
six children, Mrs. Hattie Anthony of
Buffalo. Mrs. Lillian Ziens of San An
tonio, Texas, Mrs. Mary Alvers of Wil
son. K. Y.„ Mrs. Bessie Houghton,
Frank and Moore Billings of Ferry.
He also leaves five brothers and three
sisters: Edson Billings of Lament;
Elijah, Joseph and Reuben Billings of
Castile, Mrs. Mary Phillips of Westfield,
Mrs, Nellie Wolfer of Centerville
and Mrs. Mildred Bemish of Fredonia.
The funeral service was held at his
home in this village Sunday afternoon
at two o'clock and the interment
was in the Castile cemetery.

George W. Brotherton of Fillmore,
a resident of Warsaw for
the past year and a half, died at
the Estabrooks Nursing Home on
Thursday, April 20th. He was
born in Wethersfield on April 13,
1862, the son of Joseph and Mary
Bryant Brotherton. His wife, Nina
Hinz Brotherton, died a number
of years ago, but he leaves three
children, Joseph Brotherton of
Cuba, Lorenzo Brotherton of Cleve
land, Ohio, and Mrs. Dorsey Cannon
of Fillmore, six grandchildren
and nineteen great grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the Weeks
Funeral Home on Saturday, April
22nd at 2:00 p. m. with the burial
in Warsaw. The Rev. Victor Great
orax of the Rock Glen Baptist
church was the offciating clergyiman.
Mr. Brotherton was affiliated
with the Wesleyan Methodist
church.

Supreme court continued over to
this week. A jury in the case of Lillian
J. Billings against Elijah Billings
of Castile an action for absolute divorce
was obtained late Wednesday
afternoon of last week and the case
was given to the jury on Friday afternoon.
The defendant in this case
brought a counter charge against the
plaintiff of the same charge which
the plaintiff charged the defendant
being guilty of. After due consideration
the jury found that both parties
-were: guilty of the same charge and
in such a case no verdict could be
given either parties. This decision
will prevent either the plaintiff or
the defendant securing a divorce at
any future time.

Mrs. Annie J. Bennion of South
Warsaw, the widow of Joseph Ben-
nion died at her home on Sunday,
May 13th and the funeral was held
at the Weeks Funeral Home on

with the burial in the Warsaw

officiated. Mrs. Bennion was born
in Orangeville on May 5, 1889 to

ber 2, 1936, but she is survived
by two children, S 2-c Henry J.
Bennion who is with the Navy
in the Pacific and Mrs. Henry F.
Mullett of Orangeville, seven

Mrs. Harry Stanton of Batavia and
Mrs. Earl Meacham of Perry. Mrs.
Bennion had lived in Warsaw
twenty-three years.

Mrs. Lucy Brotherton was born in
Little Valley, Cattaragus County,
November 22, 1849, and died at her
home in South Wales, N. Y., May 4.
1905, being 56 years, 5 months and 12
days old.
She leaves to mourn her loss a husband,
two daughters, Mrs Lillian
Calkins of La Grange, and Mrs. Lulu
Lewis of Akron. She also leaves one
brother, J. Hall, of Salamanaca, N.
Y., and four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth
Squires of Salamanca, Mrs. Emily
Braley of South Wales, Mrs. Janette
Plugh and Mrs. Prisoilla Drew of
Bliss.
The remains were brought to Bliss
where she formerly resided, and the
funeral was held at the Baptist Church
Sunday, May 7th, at 11 a. m.. Rev.
A. J. Wayman officiating, with interment
in the Smith Corners cemetery.
The deceased was a kind and loving
wife and mother, always cheerful and
companionable and will be greatly
missed and mourned by those who
knew her best.

retirement. He was a member of
the I. O. O. F. of Warsaw and the
Burke Hill Community Church
of Warsaw.

Mrs. Bernard Nevison of Hinsdale
and two grand children.
Funeral servicer were conducted
at 3:30 p. in. Wednesday in
the Weeks Funeral Home in

etery. Mrs. Bennion was born in
Buffalo on July 10, 1862 and was
the daughter of Joseph and Mary
Schoville Tasker. Her husband
died March 14, 1932, but she is
survived by seven sons and three
daughters, David Bennion of
Scottsville, Mrs. Roy Tuttle of
Johnsonburg, Owen Bennion of St.
Thomas, Ontario, Chester Bennion
of Castile, Donald Bennion, Mrs.

St Jerome. Hospital, Batavia.
Mr. McConnell lived at 43 Prospect
St., in Attica.
Born in Warsaw, he operated
the McConnell Insurance Agency
and later the Wise -McConnell In
aurance Agency to Attica for 45
years.
Mr. McConnell was active
harness racing throughout Western
New York until about five
years ago. He had also officiated
at races in Lexington, Ky and
was one of the first to insure
harness race horses in this area,
He is survived by his wife,
the former Ruth Peard of War-
saw and a son, James L. Decker
of Baltimore.
Funeral services were held Tues-
day at 1:30 p.m. in the Marley
Funeral Home, Attica. Burial
was in Warsaw Cemetery, War-
saw.

He was born on May 28, 1925,  in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Richard and Katherine [Reinhard] DeVole.
Art was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the European Theatre during WWII.
He was a Chief Engineer who designed and operated baking equipment and was responsible for numerous patents.   He worked locally at Acme Markets, Royale Rolls, Dunlop Tire, and Kaufman's Bakery, among others.
Art was also a Master Carpenter who built his own homes and did numerous remodeling projects for his family and friends. He was a generous person, who was never too busy to help out anyone in need.
He was a "jack of all trades" who enjoyed fixing things, traveling, dining, playing euchre, John Deere tractors, and spending time with his family.
Art was the husband of the late Rita Ann [Rutkowski] DeVole, who passed away in September of 1999, they were married on April 14, 1945.  
In 2001, he met a loving companion, Jeanette Dezaiffe, who was by his side up until the time of his passing.
Besides Jeanette, he is survived by a son, James (Sandra) DeVole, daughters Catherine, Madeleine "Mindy" (Gerry) Wick, Deborah Pace (late Ernie), Diane (Randy) Haseley, a daughter in law Deah  DeVole, eleven grandchildren Dawn Herling, Paul & Tammy Gaboury, Lisa DeVole, Craig Kijowski, Michael,  Danielle, Diana, and Aimee DeVole, Shawn & Grant Haseley,  12 great-grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Kenny DeVole and was  predeceased by four late brothers and two late sisters.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Monday at 11:00 AM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, with the Rev. David Hayes officiating, with military honors following.

32045 Wasik, Barbara (nee Gaylord) passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2024.  Beloved wife of 62 years to the late Frank S. Wasik; dearest mother of Debra (Bill) Hopkins, Diane (David “Jake”) Reed, David (Melissa) Wasik, Michael (Tara) Wasik and the late Frank T. Wasik; cherished grandmother of Emily Reed, Brooke Wasik, Natalie Wasik, Cameron Wasik and the late Benjamin Wasik.  Barbara is survived by her brother Richard (Carolyn) Gaylord and many loving nieces and nephews, she was preceded in death by her parents, Jane P. and Robert M. Gaylord, sister Nancy (John) Williamson and brother Robert (survived by Sheila) Gaylord. 
Barbara was a life-long animal lover and met her husband Frank through her love of horses. She bred and raised quality English Mastiffs.  In addition to raising her children, she immensely enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Barbara was a loving and caring mother figure to many. As well as working on the family farm, she held jobs at Eastman Kodak, as a supervisor at Wimbledon’s food truck service, and most notably was the first woman union carpenter of Buffalo Local Union No. 374.     
The family will be present Tuesday, April 9th from 4 to 7 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, NY where funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 10th at 10 AM.  Interment will be in Wheatfield Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or at www.niagarahospice.org would be appreciated.  Share condolences online at www.pruddenandkandt.com.

Mrs. Lucia R. S. Shaul died at her
home Sunday following a brief illness.
Mrs. Shaul was born at Westernville
the daughter of the late Thomas and
Sarah Shirley, and was 68 years old
the day she died. Her death occurred
on the birthday of both her and her
husband. She had resided in Deansboro
twenty-eight years. She was a
member of the Christian Science
Church of Rome. She was a charter
member of the Travelers' Club and
also of the Garden Club and always
took an active part in boht clubs.
Besides her husband, she is survived
by two sisters, Mrs.* Eliza
Grower of East Aurora, and Mrs.
Frank Grower of Frankfort, and several
nieces and nephews. Funeral
•services were held Wednesday at 1
o'clock. Rev. Mr. Davies officiating,
and burial was at Westernville.

32047 WATERSTRAT Dr. RICHARD WATERSTRAT, Ph.D Dr. Richard "Dick" Waterstrat passed away January 26, 2021 at Shady Grove Hospital after a prolonged illness at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Hankey Waterstrat in Maryland; his sister, Jean Waterstrat Schultz in Williamsville, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth (Strehlow) and Arthur Waterstrat; his brother, Carlton Waterstrat and sisters, Betty Riemer and Phyllis Hodge. Dr. Waterstrat graduated from Tonawanda High School. He went on to Erie County Technical Institute in Buffalo, NY. After receiving his degree, he joined General Elextgric Company as a member of their Metallurgy Research group. Dr. Waterstrat received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Illinois in 1961 in Metallurgical Engineering. Following graduation, he worked for the American Dental Association and conducted an abundance of research and dental metal-lurgy at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, DC. The work that he performed on metallic superconductors at the Naval Research Laboratory led to an invitation from the University of Geneva in Switzerland where he would eventually receive his Doctorate Degree. In 1978, he returned to Geneva for his oral dissertation and was awarded a Doctorate in Solid-State Physics. After he retired from the American Dental Association, he continued his research in Metallurgy at NIST (National Institute of Science and Technology) as a visiting researcher studying Atomic Structure of Metals. Dr. Waterstrat enjoyed airplane travel, especially during his excursions throughout Europe with his wife, Shirley, for both work and leisure. Some of his accomplishments include: 99 published scientific research reports "What's Best of What's New" medal from Popular Science Magazine Introduced the use of dental amalgam fillings made form spherical alloy powders and produced the first prevision dental castings of pure titanium. Developed the bio-compatible alloy with extraordinary resistance to fracture and wear, which has the unusual ability to toughen itself against propagation of cracks that would normally cause cracks and wear to the replacement. ADAMS - Mrs. Alice Achterberg, 90, of 115 E. Church St., widow of Charles Achterberg, died this morning in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where she had been a patient two weeks. The funeral is tentatively set for Thursday afternoon at the Brunner Funeral Home, North Tonawanda. Burial will be in North Tonawanda. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John R. (Lorna) Price, Adams, with whom she had lived 17 years, and Mrs Jacob P. (Caroline) Dexheimer, North Tonawanda; four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Born. Aug. 13, 1881, in Reed City Mich., she was married to Charles Achterberg, Jan. 1, 1901. He died in 1953.
