MILLS – Emm Kolbe (nee Proefrock) Mills, 90, of North Tonawanda, Saturday (July 29, 1978) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Mills was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda , a member of the Golden Agers, St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Women’s Missionary League.

Wife of the late Melvin Mills and William C. Kolbe, Mrs. Mills is survived by three sons, the Rev. Edward ( Norma) Kolbe of Appleton, N.Y., Herbert E. (Lillian) Kolbe of Lockport, N.Y., and Carl W. (Alice) Kolbe of North Tonawanda; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothea Tober and Mrs. Irene Guido, both of North Tonawanda; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews; four brothers, Fred Proefrock of East Bethany, Edward Proefrock of Tonawanda, Walter Proefrock of California and Arnold Proefrock of North Tonawanda; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Manth and Mrs. Regina Salisbury, both of North Tonawanda.

The family will receive friends at the Fretthold Funeral Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., North Tonawanda today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. A. W. Moldenhauer will officiate. Interment in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery. If so desired, memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Gustave Ziehm, 77 years old, died yesterday at the home of his son, Walter, Ward road, St. Johnsburg. Born in Germany, Mr. Ziehm came to America 46 years ago and had resided in the town of Wheatfield since. He leaves a wife, Helen, nee Balzer; six sons, Herman and Ernest, North Tonawanda; William and Charles, Detroit; Albert, Cleveland, and Walter; two daughters, Mrs. Elroy Kline and Mrs. Arthur Shamrock, North Tonawanda; and 28 grandchildren. Rites will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence and at 2:30 o'clock from the St. John's church. Rev. Walter Thiemecke will officiate and burial will be in St. John's cemetery.

GUSTAVE ZIEHM DIES
Town of Wheatfield Resident Had Lived Here for Past 46 Years
Gustave Ziehm, a resident of the town of Wheatfield for 46 years, died yesterday afternoon in the home of his son, Walter Ziehm, Ward road, St. Johnsburg. He was 77 years old and was born in Germany, coming to this country and to Wheatfield 46 years ago.
Surviving Mr. Ziehm are his wife, Mrs. Helen Ziehm, Wheatfield; six sons, Herman and Ernest, North Tonawanda, William and Charles. both of Detroit, Mich., Albert, of Cleveland, and Walter of St. Johnsburg, and two daughters, Mrs. Elroy Kline and Mrs. Arthur Shamrock, both of North Tonawanda. Twenty-eight grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the home of his son, Walter Ziehm, St. Johnsburg, and at 2:30 o'clock in St John's church, St. Johnsburg, with the Rev. Walter Thiemeck (sic) officiating Burial will be in St. John's cemetery

Born in Germany, she resided in the Town of Wheatfield the past 40 years. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz. Surviving are three daughters, Miss Esther Ziehm, Buffalo and Mrs. Martin and Miss Ariel Ziehm, Tonawanda; two sons, William and Grover, Town of Wheatfield; six grandchildren and three grandchildren; and a brother, August Zastrow, Wilson. Friends may call at the home of her son, Grover, Sy Rd. and Falls Blvd., where funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. and a t 2:30 in St. James Church. The Rev. Otto Bruss will officiate. Mrs. Helen Rubbert
Mrs. Helena Rubbert, 27 years old, wife of Edward A. Rubbert of the Niagara Falls Boulevard, near Bergholtz, died at the Memorial Hospital in Niagara Falls Wednesday night after an illness of two weeks with typhoid fever. Besides her husband, Mrs. Rubbert is survived by one daughter, Miss Matilda Rubbert, her mother, Mrs. Wilhelmina Roggow of Bergholtz; two sisters, Mrs. Melvina Buck of Niagara Falls and Miss Martha Roggow of Buffalo, and one brother, William Hidde of Bergholtz. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Rubberts mother and half an hour later from the Holy Ghost church at Bergholtz. Rev. A Starck officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Ghost cemetery.

Lee (Janice) Pitre of Indiana and a son Lyle (Judy) Stoelting of Indiana; ten grandchildren, a brother Allen (Margaret) Stoelting and two sisters, Mrs. Erna Scholz and Mrs. Leo (Doris) Peryea all of North Tonawanda; many nieces and nephews.

Benjamin E. Witt, Post Office Clerk For 34 Years, Dies
Benjamin E. Witt, 59, an employee of the North Tonawanda Post Office for 34 years, died Sunday in DeGraff Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Witt was taken to the hospital Thursday after suffering a heart attack in his home, 4 Louisa Parkway.
A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, Mr. Witt joined the Post Office staff in July 1916. He served as a stamp clerk and would have been eligible for retirement next year.
Commenting on Mr. Witt's long services, Postmaster Harold E. Bollier said, He was an exceptionally capable and faithful employee. Because he had been at the stamp window so long, he knew and was known by thousands of local residents.
Mr. Witt was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Sweeney Hose Company and the Postal Clerk' Association. He was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School.
Surviving are his wife, Alice, nee Wollenberg; a brother, Edward C. Witt of Waukegan, Ill., three sisters, Mrs. Emma Langbehn and Mrs. Anna Evig of North Tonawanda and Mrs. Martha Andres of Los Angeles.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Louisa Parkway residence. The Rev. Herman Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery.

Strassburg, Newfane; twelve grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Charles Stange, St. Johnsburg, and a brother, Henry Andres, Ransomville. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the St. John's church, St. Johnsburg. Rev. Born Saturday, June 2, 1827; Died Saturday, June 2, 1906. Mrs. Charlotte Wollenberg died at her home in Martinsville Saturday. Her death came on the same day of the week that she was born exactly 79 years before. Mrs. Wollenberg was one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of Martinsville. She was the mother of Gottfried and Martin Wollenberg, Mrs. Ernest Otterstein, Mrs. Mary Broecker and Miss Martha Wollenberg. The funeral will take place from the house at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon. Half an hour later services will be held from St. Martin's church. Interment will take place in Martinsville.

Mr. Moll is survived by a son, John R. Moll, St. Johnsburg; two daughters, Mrs. James Rothrock, Bellefonte, Pa., and Mrs. Philip Schultz, Niagara Falls, N. Y.; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

William Broecker
The funeral of William Broecker who died Sunday afternoon at his home on the
Ward road, town of Wheatfield, aged 86, was held this afternoon at 3 o'clock
from the late residence and half an hour later at St. John's Church, St.
Johnsburg. Burial was made in St. John's cemetery. Mr. Broecker has lived
in the town of Wheatfield the greater part of his life and was among the
best known residents of the town. For the last eighteen years he had been
an invalid.
Surviving are four sons, Albert Broecker, Youngstown, N.Y.; William and
Herman Broecker of North Tonawanda and Gustav Broecker of Martinsville; one
daughter, Mrs. William Heppner of St. Johnsburg; 31 grandchildren, eighteen
great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Christine Hamnemann of North
Tonawanda.

WHEATFIELD - Paul F. Mehls, a former railroad car inspector, died Friday at home after a brief illness. He was 87.
A Niagara Falls native, he graduated from Trott Vocational High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked 43 years for Consolidated Rail Corp. and its predecessor railroads, retiring in 1978.
Mr. Mehls was an active member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls. He was a former council president, sang in the choir, taught adult Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent.
He also belonged to a retired men's singing group, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and collected railroad memorabilia.
His first wife, the former Grace Boulden, died in 1988.
He is survived by his second wife of 10 years, the former Polly A. Fisher; two sons, Richard of Gasport and David of Franklintown, Pa.; two daughters, Karen Jackson of York Springs, Pa., and Linda Kurzik of York, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 18th Street and Cleveland Avenue, Niagara Falls. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Retired Carbo Worker Dies

SANBORN - Albert W. Strassburg, 88, of Saunders Settlement Road, died today (Aug. 6, 1962) at Ransomville General Hospital after a brief illness. A former employe of the Carborundum Co. at Niagara Falls, he had been retired for 20 years. He previously worked at the William A. Rogers Co. in Niagara Falls. Born at St. Johnsburg, Jan. 8, 1876. Mr. Strassburg lived in Sanborn for 35 years. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edwin Batt. Niagara Falls, a brother and three sisters in the States of Washington and North Dakota, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral of Charles Kriedemann, 72 years old, a former resident of North Tonawanda, who died Saturday at the St. Jerome's hospital, Batavia, was held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home of his son, John H. Wendt, 444 Schenk street. Rev. Ernst Schneppe officiated and burial was in St. Peter's cemetery.
Mr. Kriedemann resided in North Tonawanda until taking up his residence at Alexander, near Batavia, ten years ago. He was a mason contractor while residing here.
Surviving are a wife, Louise; three sons, Gust Kriedemann and John H. Wendt, North Tonawanda, and Martin Wendt, Buffalo; a daughter, Mrs. Fred Proefrock, Alexander; 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother, Julius Kriedemann, and a sister, Mrs. Herman Acksel, North Tonawanda.
