MELLENTHINE – Marcus P. Mellenthine, 62, last night (Sept. 6, 1955) in his home, Ward Rd., St. Johnsburg. He is survived by his wife, Louise, nee Schaller. He was the father of Mrs. Melvin Voelcker of Bergholtz, and Ralph F. and Donald M., of the Town of Wheatfield. He is also survived by six grandchildren. He was the brother of Mrs. Elizabeth Broecker and half-brother of Edmund and Walter Williams. Services will be in the family residence at 2 p.m. Friday, and at 2:30 p.m. in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. J. Walter Thiemecke will officiate. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Mr. Mellenthine was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the St. Johnsburg Fire Company.

852 7 Year Old Dies of Asphyxia
Linda Pankow, 7, of Ward Rd Town of Wheatfield, died yesterday morning at DeGraff Memorial Hospital of asphyxia due to and acute case of bronchitis. The cause of death wass determined after a post mortem, according to Dr. G. Norris Miner, North Tonawanda Health Officer. Linda was rushed to the hospital by her father, Harold Pankow after he found her stricken in her room. Deputy Sheriffs escorted him to the hospital. Linda's mother Mrs. Jenice Pankow, 30, suffered a fractured ankle, when she fell on a flight of stairs when she hurried to a phone for a doctor. In addition to her parents, Linda is survived by a sister Betty, a brother Robin, and her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. William Pankow, and Mr. and Mrs. Felix Walck. Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm Friday at Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St. the Rev Walter J. Thiemecke officiating. Burial will be in St John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Joseph C. Miller, 85, of Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, entered into rest, unexpectedly, on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, Erie County, NY. Born on October 7, 1922 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Alice (Metz) Miller. On January 28, 1956, he married the former Rhoda Gayman in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada.Mr. Miller was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. Joseph served in the United States Navy, during World War II. For over twenty years, he worked at his grandfather's business, Metz Heating. Following the death of his grandfather and closing of Metz Heating, Mr. Miller worked for Chisholm Ryder, until his retirement in 1982. Joseph enjoyed lawn bowling and was an avid collector.In addition to his wife, Rhoda of fifty-two years, Mr. Miller is survived by many nieces and nephews and one cousin. Mrs. Louise Walck, 80 years old, died this morning at the home of her son, Rudolph Walck, Shawnee road, town of Wheatfield, after an illness of four weeks. She was born in Germany. At the age of one years she was brought to the town of Wheatfield from Germany by her parents and had since lived in the town. Besides one son she is survived by four grand children. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the late residence and half an hour later at the Shawnee church. Burial will be at Shawnee.

STOELTING – Mrs. Anna G. Stoelting, 77, of Shawnee Rd., Town of Cambria, died suddenly this morning, Aug. 8, 1953, in her residence after a heart attack. Helmuth C. Mellenthine, 40 years old, died this morning at his home on the
Ward road, town of Wheatfield, after an illness of two days with pneumonia.
Born in North Tonawanda, he had resided in this locality all his life. He
was a member of the Niagara Lutheran chorus and the St. Johnsburg fire
department. He leaves a wife, Eleanor, nee Stenzel; a son, Calvin; a
daughter, Viola; three brothers, Marcus Mellenthine, town of Wheatfield;
Edmond Williams, Tonawanda and Walter Williams, Lockport and a sister, Mrs.
Henry Broecker, Wheatfield. Services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock
from the residence and at 2:30 o'clock from the St. John's church, Rev.
Walter Thiemecke officiating. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery.

Herbert Goerss of Springfield, MA., Alfred of Oakmont, Pa., Paul Gertrude, William and Evelyn Goerss of North Tonawanda; sister of Phillip Broecker of the Town of Wheatfield and Mrs. Clifford Robbins of Tonawanda. Seven grandchildren also survive. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., and at 2:30 p.m. in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Frederick A. Hinners will officiate. Interment will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery. She was a member of St. Paul’s Ladies Aid Society and the Women’s Missionary League.

STRASSBURG - Harold K. Strassburg of 358 Miller St., North Tonawanda, Saturday (Dec. 6, 1975) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born in the Town of Cambria, he had been a resident of North Tonawanda for 62 years. He had been employed by National Grinding Wheel Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1972. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Air Force. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Wheatfield American Legion Post No. 1451, the Lutheran Layman's League, Dom Polski Club and the United Steelworkers of America, AFL-CIO CLC, Local No. 12419. He was the son of the late John G. Strassburg.
He is survived by his mother, Ella H. Strassburg; two sisters, Edna and Elda Strassburg, all of North Tonawanda; he was the nephew of Mrs. Rachel Van De Water and Mrs. Emma Strassburg.

MERKLE - Robert L. Merkle, 56, of North Tonawanda, unexpectedly Tuesday (December 8, 1981) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born in Detroit, Mich., he had formerly been a resident of Kenmore and was presently residing in North Tonawanda and was the son of the late Carl and Lillian Merkle. Mr. Merkle had been employed at Chevrolet Motor Div. (Metal Castings Plant) in the Town of Tonawanda for the past 35 years. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Laymens League, American Foundrymen's Society and was a member and past president of Brighton Volunteer Fire Dept.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. (nee Stolzenburg) Merkle; three daughters, Mrs. Alan (Nancy) Bolduc of North Tonawanda, the Misses Judy I. Merkle and Wendy S. Merkle, both at home; a son, Larry S. Merkle of Tonawanda; a brother, Ralph (Mary) Merkle of Brighton, Mich.; two uncles, John and Ben Miller, both of Mt. Clemens, Mich., and several nieces and nephews.

(Feb. 8, 1971) at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of North
Tonawanda, a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Buffalo and was an
accountant at the Buffalo Country Club for 25 years, retiring in 1965.

OGDEN – Mrs. Irene Mellenthien Ogden, 69, died Tuesday (Jan. 6, 1959) at Stuyvesant, N. Y., after a long illness.

She was the wife of Calvin Ogden of Stuyvesant; mother of Mildred Logan of the Town of Niagara, Mrs. Irene Miller of Tonawanda, Mrs. Gladys Daunce of Niagara Falls, Robert Mellenthien of North Tonawanda; sister of John Schreader of Lockport, Charles Schreader of Elba, Rudolph Schreader of Batavia, Rose Aderman of Niagara Falls, Mrs. Ida Krull of Niagara Falls. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

STOLZENBURG August J. Stolzenburg, 89, of 402 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, died Saturday (Jan. 6, 1968) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of Rescue Fire Company of North Tonawanda. August Stenzel, 74 years old, died this morning at the home of his son, Edward, 55 Steiner avenue. Born in Germany, Mr. Stenzel came to America 66 years ago, locating in the town of Wheatfield, where he resided until coming to Tonawanda three years ago. He is survived by two sons, Edward and William, the later of St. Johnsburg; two daughters, Mrs. Gustav Heppner and Mrs. George Pankow, St. Johnsburg, six grandchildren, and two brothers, Charles and Herman Stenzel, St. Johnsburg. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the residence and an hour later at the St. John's church. Rev. Walter Thiemecke will officiate and burial will be in the St. John's cemetery.

SCHOENFELDT – Benjamin A. Schoenfeldt, 72, of 105 Hagen Ave., North Tonawanda, died unexpectedly Saturday (March 6, 1965). He was pronounced dead on arrival at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, Mr. Schoenfeldt was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Sweeney Hose Company, of which he was a past president and the North Tonawanda Firemen’s Benevolent Association, of which he had been president the past 18 years. He was employed at Roe Tool and Die Co., Tonawanda. Surviving are his wife, Anna (nee Rathgeber); two sons, Robert and LeVant Schoenfeldt; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) Wiegand, Miss Bernice Schoenfeldt, Mrs. Erwin (Mildred) Krull and Mrs. Lois Erhart, all of the Tonawandas; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. James Jamieson of Tidioute, Pa. DEMMIN Helen L. Demmin, 83, of 414 Walck Rd., North Tonawanda, died Monday morning (Sept. 8, 1958) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. She was born in Sanborn, N. Y., and had lived in North Tonawanda 57 years.
She was the wife of the late August C. Demmin, and is survived by two daughters, Viola of North Tonawanda and Mrs. Edward Bielmeyer of Williamsville; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Fitzgerald of Rochester and Mrs. Cornelius Libbert of Newark, N.Y., and one grandson.

881 9/12/2004 LOCKPORT - Catherine C. Pokelwaldt, a homemaker and a defense worker during World War II, died Thursday in Briody Health Care Facility after a long illness. She was 97.
Mrs. Pokelwaldt was born Catherine Breitenbach in Wheatfield and raised in a farmhouse on the Amherst side of Tonawanda Creek. She lived most of her adult life in Niagara Falls, moving to Lockport at age 90. She had lived in the nursing home for more than a year.
During World War II, she worked as a riveter, assembling airplanes at Bell Aircraft Corp. in Wheatfield.
For most of her life she was a homemaker, enjoying what she called her "fancy work": knitting and crocheting, especially doilies and tablecloths.
Her family said she was a fine baker, specializing in a sour cream cookie recipe handed down from her grandmother. She also enjoyed playing cards.
Her husband of 43 years, Edward, died in 1970.
Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Palmiter of Pendleton, Audrey Smith of Ransomville, Carol Burnsworth of Lockport and Beverly Blaise of Prospect Heights, ILl.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon Monday in Grace Lutheran Church, 736 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls. Burial will be in Wheatfield Cemetery.

He was born February 26, 1932 to Burton and Lottie (Patterson) Snell and a was a life-long resident of this area.  Merle was a member of the Quaker Road Methodist Church, a Charter Member of the Hartland Volunteer Fire Company, an active member of the Town of Hartland Planning Board since 1974, and enjoyed gardening and cooking turkey dinners year-round.  He was also co-owner/operator of Snell’s Service Station.  Mr. Snell was predeceased by his wife Lois and a son and daughter-in-law: Michael and Suzanne Snell. 
He is survived by his children: Kim (Linda) Snell of Medina, Randall Snell of Gasport, Steven (Brandy) Snell of Burt, William Snell of Hartland, Bailey Snell of Royalton, his brother: Donald (Beverly) Snell of Hartland, his sister: Karen “Kay” (Tom) Doherty of MI, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Randall Paul Bane, age 80, died unexpectedly July 17, 2021 at his residence. 
He was born June 17, 1941 in Albion to Paul and Mildred (Stalker) Bane and had returned to this area in 2012.  Mr. Bane was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam era.  Randall was the founder of David’s House, a non-denominational place for people to use a worship center.  He travelled the world as a director and performer of the Feast of the Tabernacles in Israel.  Randall was an actor, dancer and a Christian Performance Artist who conducted trainings and seminars for interpretive dance and movement to Christian Music.  He also was an avid gardener, a woodworker and enjoyed making creative flags for his ministry.  Mr. Bane was predeceased by a brother: Kirk Bane. 
He is survived by his sister: Kathleen (Gene) Bane-Dinse of Lyndonville, as well as several nieces and nephews.  There will be no calling hours.  Private services and interment in Lynhaven Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.

He was born in Middleport October 10, 1935 to George and Elverda (Maess) Teifel and was a life-long resident of this area.  Norman worked at Lerch & Daly as well as Al Morgan Chevrolet and Heinrich Chevrolet prior to his retirement in 1980.  He enjoyed spending the winters in Zephyrhills, FL as well as buying and selling antiques and three-wheeled bicycles.  Mr. Tiefel was predeceased by his wife Lois (Washbon) Teifel, and 2 step grandchildren: Kenneth J. San Juan, TX/Lockport, NY - Peter J. Hallows Sr., 78, passed December 27, 2018, at his home in San Juan, Texas. He was born April 26, 1940, in North Tonawanda, NY, the son of John Hallows and Louis Smith Hallows.
Pete graduated from North Tonawanda Senior High, Class of 1958. Following graduation, he worked at Budweys Grocery from 1956-1958 when he then joined the United States Air Force where he served in the medical field from 1959-1962, from 1963-1982 he worked for Fleischman's as an office manager, and from 1983-2016 he worked as Traffic Manager at Lackawanna Products Inc.
Peter enjoyed Country and Gospel music, puzzles, watching and attending sports games, bowling, traveling, hunting, and most of all reading. He was a past member of the Niagara Frontier Coin Club.
Peter is predeceased by his father, John Hallows; mother, Lois Hallows McNulty; stepfather, Clair (Mack) McNulty; Joanne Huey; Carole Hallows; and stepdaughter, Tonya Scarborough.

Of Pekin, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, in Brockport, NY.  He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, on September 22, 1931, to the late George A. and Elsa M. [Buth] Ostwald.
Alan graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1949, Concordia Teachers College, IL in 1954 and Buffalo State Teachers College, NY in 1965.  He loved his career as an elementary school teacher at Holy Ghost Lutheran School, Central Lutheran School in Indiana, Newfane Elementary, and Centre Avenue, 93rd Street, and 60th Street Schools in Niagara Falls.   He retired in 1986.
He was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Pekin, NY for 60 years.
Alan loved traveling, visiting lighthouses, eating out in restaurants, and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan!
Alan was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Betty R. [Payne] Ostwald, who passed away in April of this year.
He is survived by his three children Paul (Maria) Ostwald, Beth (Carl) Dickinson and Lori Ostwald, six grandchildren Nicole (Mark) Thomas, John (Kristin) Ostwald, Julie (William) Webekind, Katherine (Matthew) Butch, Lia and Lin Dickinson, twelve

Albert Schmidt, 81, of Ransomville, NY, passed away on March 31, 2024. He was born on March 18, 1943.
Albert lived his dream retirement of having a cabin in the woods before returning to Ransomville in November 2022.
Before his retirement, he was a master carpenter. Albert's hobbies included ATV riding, watching deer from his cabin, tending his chickens, and befriending local chipmunks that would eat peanuts out of his hand.
Albert is survived by his sister, Linda Schmidt Lapress, his children Albert A. (Valery Lavery) Schmidt, Debra (Richard) Beutel, David J. (Christine) Schmidt, and Corilyn (James Craggs) Schmidt. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Albert was predeceased by his parents, Ruth Martha Lasker and Albert Herman Schmidt, and his sister, Donna Schmidt Desso.

Anna ”Helene” (Kromer) Reisig, of Niagara Falls, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 2, 2019 at her home after a long illness. She was born in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania on April 29, 1936, a daughter of Harry P. and Theda B. (Armstrong) Kromer. She was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and worked retail for many years at Osh Kosh clothing store. She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church participating in choir membership and always had a line of people waiting for a slice of her homemade pizza at the various church functions and fund raisers.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl A. Reisig in February of 2012 after 55 years of marriage.
Helene is survived by her children, Linda (Robert) Dean of Vestal, NY; David (Sharon) Reisig of Rochester; Gary (Debbie) Reisig of the Town of Wheatfield; Robert (Kelly) Reisig of Hilton, NY; grandchildren, Becky, Kari, Jena, Bobby, Karl, Sarah, Laurel, Connor, Tyler, Austin, Karli and Jake; eight great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Harry Kromer; Norman Kromer; Alvin Kromer; Alice (Howard) Bender and Patricia (Jack) Baer.

894 Anna (Reale) Amis, 94, of Medina passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at the Martin-Linsin Hospice Residence in Albion. Prior to that, she had been cared for at the Villages of Orleans with a lengthy and courageous struggle with dementia.
Anna was a daughter of the late Battista and Giovanna (Ferri) Reale, born in Medina on January 8, 1928. She graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1946 from Royalton-Hartland High School. Anna was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, both St. Stephen’s Church in Middleport and later on at St. Mary’s Church in Medina. Anna will be remembered as a joyful, compassionate and faithful caregiver to family and friends. Her selfless actions portrayed her belief in Heavenly Angels.
In addition to her parents, Anna was predeceased by her husband, Donald Amis and brother, Felix (late Frances) Reale.
Survivors include her sisters, Florence (late Daniel) Sanmarco and Madeline (late Harry) Merrell; brothers, Michael (Patricia) Reale and Louis (Donna) Reale; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Anna’s wishes, there will be no prior visitation. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Stephen Soares on Friday, June 24 at 11am at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 211 Eagle St., Medina. Interment will be in Boxwood Cemetery, Medina. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

895 Anna A. Bensley, 96, of Medina entered into rest peacefully on December 14, 2020 at the Martin-Linsin Hospice Residence in Albion.
Born November 12, 1924 in Middleport, she was a daughter of the late Julius and Rose (Kontos) Wasvary. She was a longtime parishioner of Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church in Medina. She was known to be a quiet and humble person. Anna loved taking her children on local field trips and adventures, like seeing Santa at Christmas Park. She was a frequent visitor to the library, bringing her children to read and experience the world. Anna loved music, was an avid reader, a wonderful gardener and enjoyed taking care of her various animals. Her love of nature took her down the Erie Canal for walks with the family dog. She was a dessert enthusiast, never turning down sweets and was known to enjoy a taste of chocolate daily.
Predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Bensley in 2001; beloved brothers and sisters in-law, Walter, Gerald, Raymond, Donald, Phyllis and Mary; her cherished siblings, William Wasvary, Lillian (Robert) Hayden and Mary Ellen (Robert) Spaulding.
Survivors include her children, Paula (John Borello) Bensley and James Bensley; granddaughter, Brooke Bensley; sisters in-law, Lucille Hotchkiss and Rita Barry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside committal service will be held Thursday, December 17th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Supportive Care of Orleans, P.O. Box 489, Albion NY 14411 or the Lee-Whedon Memorial Library, 620 West Ave. Medina NY 14103. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, Medina.

896 Anthony Joseph Iadicicco, Sr.
December 26, 1960 - March 23, 2023

Anthony J. Iadicicco, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at his home.  He was 62.  He was born on Grand Island on December 26, 1960, a son of the late Salvatore and Violet (Caimano) iadicicco, Sr.  He attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational School.
Anthony worked as a machinist and welder for several area businesses.  He enjoyed gardening and working on cars and fixing things.  He loved music, especially the Beatles and he enjoyed betting on horse racing at OTB but his greatest joy was his time with his family.
He is survived by his son Brandon Iadicicco, his daughter-in-law Tina (late Anthony, Jr.) Iadicicco and three grandchildren: Desiree, Dylan and Camren.  He is also survived by four siblings: Lynette (Ken) Lemaster, Donato (Delores) Iadicicco, Salvatore Iadicicco, Jr. and Augie (Rachelle) Iadicicco.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son Anthony J. (Tina) Iadicicco, Jr. and two sisters, Vincenza and Violet.

897 Antonette “Ann” Conny, 96, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on December 11, 2020, in Schoellkopf Health Center in Niagara Falls, NY, following complications from Covid. 

 
Born on January 8, 1924, in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Elizabeth Bongiovanni. Ann was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. She attended local schools and graduated with honors from Niagara Falls High School. 

 
On April 30, 1949, Ann married James V. Conny in the former St. Joseph Church (currently Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish). Ann loved telling the story of how Jim determined her wedding ring size by secretly wrapping a piece of string around her finger at the movie theater. The two met at Kimberly-Clark Corporation, where Ann was a machine operator and lab technician, and Jim was a millwright. After marriage, Ann devoted her time to raising a family. 

 
Ann later returned to the workforce as a bookkeeper for Kmart in the Men’s Department until she retired in 1983. She liked telling of the time during the Blizzard of '77 when she was marooned at Kmart for three days. Ann had a lifelong interest in learning, taking enrichment classes in art, Italian, and horticulture. She was well known in her neighborhood for her talents in gardening, cooking, and baking. In particular, she taught neighbors and grandchildren how to make pizzelles and the Italian meatballs.

 
Ann was kind-hearted and a great storyteller who found humor in everything. She loved animals, especially dogs, and enjoyed birdwatching outside her kitchen window. Ann was an avid reader who read hundreds of books during her later life, many of which were donated to the residents' library at Schoellkopf Health Center.

 
Ann is survived by two children, Joanne (Charles) James of Newfield, NY, and Joseph (Beth) Conny of Frederick, MD; four grandchildren: Rebecca Ann James of Brooklyn, NY; Michael (Caroline) James of Dryden, NY; Julia Mende Conny of Parkville, MD; and Jenna Mende Conny of Baltimore, MD; and two great-granddaughters, Ava and Amelia James. Ann is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Carlson, and her brother, Carmen Bongiovanni.

 
There will be no public visitation. A private funeral service will be held at OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS NY (716-297-9007).  Private prayers of committal and entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorial offerings in Ann’s name can be made to Niagara County SPCA. Arrangements were entrusted to the professional care of Michael R. 898 Arlene M. Hennebohl went to her eternal home in heaven to be with her God and Savior on May 2, 2024 at Hospice House in Lockport. Born in Cheektowaga, NY, in the year 1929, she was 94 years old.  She was the daughter of Philip and Marie Abt of Cambria, NY. She worked at Fisher Price in Medina and also for Mercy Home Health Care as a caregiver in Lockport for many years until she retired.  She is known for her love of her God and Savior and not a day would go by that she didn’t read her Bible and pray for each and every one of her family and friends by name.  She was called the ‘encourager’ in her family as she naturally encouraged each and every one to do better, be better and live better with God first in their life and Jesus as their Savior. Her most cherished time was spending time with her family and friends.  She loved to read and in prior years of growing up on the family farm she always loved all kinds of plants, flowers, birds, and gardening.

She had one brother and sister, both deceased: Norman Abt Sr (Marion), and a sister, Ruth Martin (Norman).  She had two sons and a daughter:  the late Larry Hennebohl (Deborah), and daughter, Cathy Linderman (Wayne) and Daniel Hennebohl.   She was grandmother to five beloved grandchildren: Julie Parsons (David), Steven Linderman (Regina), Danielle Hennebohl, Christina Syphax, and Mark Hennebohl.  She also cherished her 14 great  grandchildren: Luke, Seth, Joshua, Aaron, Jaylyn, Naomi, Jenna, Jackson, Alexis, DaShawna, Tahje, Tydan, Jonathan  and Kingston.  5 great-great grandchildren: Corey, Juliana, Carson, Melody, & Harmony. She also dearly loved her cousin, Janet Heinemann and all her nieces and nephews.   She had many friends over the many years of her life that she spoke of even in the last few years.    

A celebration of her life will be at a later date for her family.  She asked that everyone celebrate she’s in heaven, completely healed and that you reminisce over all the good times filled with love & laughter with her!

 passed away on July 17, 2019. She was born in Medina, NY on June 8, 1930 to the late Frank and Minnie (Hellert) Pafk.
Arlene married the late Howard Totten on November 14, 1946 and they had three children together. She and Howard were owner/operators of Totten Trucking, a long haul trucking company for forty- nine years. Arlene liked to bake and was a very accomplished seamstress. She especially loved quilt making. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother and enjoyed taking care of her family.
Arlene is survived by her son, Duane (late Cindy) Totten and a daughter, Bonnie (late Jerry) (David Leavitt) VanBuren all of Akron. Six grandchildren; Lyle Wagner of TX, Jeff (Kim) Wagner of IN, Daniel (Angie) DiPaolo, Michael Milhollen, Andrew (Tanya) Totten, and Stacey (Eric) Hess all of Akron; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild also survive her. Arlene is predeceased by her husband, Howard Totten and daughter, Carol Milhollen. 
Funeral Services will be Private. Arrangements were made by Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Avenue, Akron, NY. Arthur C. Sawyer passed away on November 25th, 2023. He was born in the Village of LaSalle to William J. and Isabel Sawyer (nee Ball). He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce M. Sawyer (nee Hildebrandt). He is survived by his three children, Nancy J. Gee (deceased Richard Gee) of Rochester, NY; Lynne N. and Thomas Curyto of West Chester, P.A. and Kevin A. and Cynthia Sawyer of Niagara Falls, NY.
 He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Leanne (Robert) McAllister, Richard (Michelle) Gee, Thomas (Kim) Curyto, Todd (Jen) Curyto, Tara (Jason) Adams, Corey (Charity) Curyto, Aaron (Samantha) Sawyer, Leah (Steven) Schul. Also, 21 great grandchildren, three great grand stepdaughters, and two great great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Kenneth Sawyer (Joanne) of West Palm Beach Florida, and one sister, Shirley Oldfield (deceased Gordon Oldfield) of Lockport, NY. He was also survived by many nieces & nephews.
 Preceding him in death are three sisters; Louise Mayville of Niagara Falls, NY, Dorothy Sawyer of Niagara Falls, NY, Irene McClain of Rochester NY and a brother, William J. Sawyer Jr. of Niagara Falls, NY. 
 During WWII he enlisted in the United States Navy at age 18. His discharge was November, 1945. The Navy awarded him various medals and a Battle Star during the Philippine Campaign.
 For forty years he worked at Mathieson Alkali Works, now known as Olin Corporation, retiring in 1985 as manager of both departments of Traffic and Purchasing. While at Olin he served many years on the M.A.W. Federal Credit Union, retiring as President. He is currently a member of the Lasalle Lodge 132 F. & A.M. and American Legion Post 1465. He was a past member of the Niagara Falls Traffic Club, Buffalo Purchasing Association and Lasalle Sportsmen’s Club.
 Art would like to give a special thanks to his two daughters: Nancy Gee and Lynne Curyto and husband, Tom Curyto, his son and wife: Kevin and Cynthia Sawyer, his nephew and wife, Bill and Dianne Mayville and nephews Thomas and Robert Sawyer. Art would also like to thank his neighbors; Ted and Gina Weed Sr., Sam and Mary Brandy, Sean and Rhonda Vekich, Jane Schulz and Frank Hansen.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls on Wednesday, November 29th from 4 to 8 PM where funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation at 8 PM.  Burial will be Thursday at 10:30 AM in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery in Lewiston.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Sawyers name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
