Mr. and Mrs. John J. Curtis of Washington will leave this week for
the Far East, where they will make their home in Djakarta, capital of the
new Republic of Indonesia. Mrs. Curtis is the former Miss Mary Jo
Bruehl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Bruehl of Liowood Ave., and
her husband is the son of Mr. and4
Mrs. Lawrence Mauck of Washington.
Mr. Curtis has been assigned to
the American Embassy at Djarkarta
as a public affairs officer in connection
with the State Department's
•Campaign of Truth** in Southeast
Asia.
The new Indonesian republic is located
directly south of the Philippines
and is made up of 78,000,000 people
who live on a chain of 3,000 islands
extending more than 3,000 miles.
During World War II, Mr. Curtis
was a photo-reporter for the U. S.
War Department in the West Indies
and adjacent mainland areas of South
America. He later served three years
with the U. S. Navy as a motion picture
production specialist.
Before her recent marriage, the
former Buffalo girl served as a retail
buyer for women's high-fashion accessories
in Washington
