- Anita J. (Turrill) Kennedy, longtime resident of Niagara Falls and currently of Grand Island, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 26, 2021. She was 97. She was born in Orillia, Ontario, Canada on June 6, 1924, a daughter of the late Charles and Lila (Raymond) Turrill. She attended schools in Canada and then married Thomas H. Kennedy, Jr. in 1942 at which point she moved to Niagara Falls, New York. They remained happily married for 68 years until Mr. Kennedy’s passing in 2011.
Mrs. Kennedy worked as an ammunition inspector for the United States Government during World War II and then began her life as a homemaker to raise their family. She was a longtime member of V.F.W. Post 917 where she was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary and she enjoyed painting ceramics but her greatest joy was her time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two children: Anita (late Angelo) Fama and Patricia Kennedy and her longtime companion Andrew Noyse of Hillsdale, Michigan and her cousin Jill (Larry) Gibb of Niagara Falls, Ontario. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Shannon Fama-Barker, Sheri (Ryan) Fama-Parish, Angelo Fama II, Tammy DuBois and Kari (Todd) Birchfield and 5 great-grandchildren: Kyle and Christian Barker, Nicholas and April Shook and Jacob Birchfield. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by 5 siblings: Malcolm, Thomas and Edsel Turrill and Barbara Phelps and Isabel Turrill.
There will be no visitation and burial will be at a later time in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery in Lewiston.
