A youth, one month from graduation at North
Tonawanda High School, died in DeGraff Memorial
Hospital today shortly a f t e r being injured in an automobile
accident on N i a g a r a Falls Blvd.
Three teen-age passengers in
the car were injured. Fatally in-
jured was Gerald f. Zastrow, 17,
of 44 Fillner Ave., identified as the
driver. DeGraff Memorial Hospi-
tal said he suffered neck and
chest injuries.
Injured and listed in fair condition
were:
Mary Ellen Feck, 16. of 356 Old
Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda;
and Jean Smith, 18, of Palm-
er Rd., Ransomville, both of whom
suffered possible fractured legs,
and Michael Jensen, 17, of 580 S.
Wall St., North Tonawanda, who
suffered numerous contusions of
the face and legs.
The two couples had attended
the North Tonawanda High School
Senior Prom last night.
The Niagara County Sheriff's
Department said the accident occurred
about 4:05 a.m. on the!
boulevard about one-half mile
east of Ward Rd. The youth died
at 8 a.m.
Deputies reported the east-bound
car went off the left side of the
highway and struck a utility pole.
They said the three surviving pas-
sengers were asleep at the time
and unable to tell what happened.
The accident was investigated
by Deputies Kenneth Runge and
Donald Stern.
Young Zastrow was a native of
North Tonawanda. He was a mem-
ber of St. Christopher's Church,
Falls Blvd., the 4-H Club of Lock-
port and the Saddle Dusters of
Lockport.
His survivors include his par-
ents, Elmer and Ann Meisen-
burg Zastrow; two brothers, Don-
ald E. and Robert F.; two sis-
ters, Barbara A. and Debra L.,
and his grandmothers, Mrs. John
Meisenburg of Tonawanda and
Mrs. Herbert Zastrow of North
Tonawanda.
