- September 4, 2013 Wilbert A. Ostwald Anonymous The Tonawanda News The Tonawanda News Wed Sep 04, 2013, 01:12 PM EDT TONAWANDA — Wilbert A. Ostwald, age 92, of Tonawanda, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Schofield Residence, after a long illness. Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Edward and Elsophine (nee Broeker) Ostwald and was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII. A lifelong resident of the Tonawandas, he had been employed at Spaulding Fibre until retiring. Along with his wife, Virginia, he had operated "Ostwald's Candies" in Tonawanda for more than 50 years, and was renowned for the quality of their products. Wilbert was an avid gardener and photographer. He was the husband of the late Virginia (nee Keyes) Ostwald, who died earlier this year. He is survived by his children, Dan (Sharon) Ostwald and Phyllis (William) Schnirel. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 1-3 PM on Friday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held at 3 PM Friday. Friends invited.
