Our Lady of Angels Chapel at Niagara
university was the scene of a
pretty Autumn wedding on Saturday
morning, October 12, when Julia
Elizabeth Murphy became the bride
of Edmond J. Sklmin, Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Edmond J. Skimin, of this
city. The Rev. Thomas D. O'Connor,
CM., Ph.R., of Niagara university,
performed the wedding ceremony and
was the celebrant of the nuptial mass.
Several other priests, including Very
Rev. Joseph M. Noonan. CM., S.T.D.,
PhX.,, the Rev. Francis L. Meade,
CM., Ph.D., the Rev. Michael F. Nagle,
CM., Ph.D., the Rev. John J.
McCarthy and the Rev. Bernard J.
Magee, were present in the sanctuary.
The bride was escorted into the
chapel by her brother, Timothy J.
Murphy, and wore a Botticelli blue
velvet gown, made with princess lines
and matcning detachable jacket. The
sleeves were large and full and dainty
; velvet-covered buttons adorned the
back of the dress from neck to waist.
She wore a silver turban, with veil
and silver slippers. She carried an
arm bouquet of yellow roses and
baby's breath tied with silver ribbon.
Catherine Patricia Murphy, sister
of the bride, was maid of honor. She
wore rust velvet, princess style,
brown turban with veil and
accessories. She carried
roses.
Francis J. Sklmin attended his
brother. Dennis M. Riordan and
Thomas J. McCarthy were the ushers.
Mrs. Skimin, mother of the groom,
was attractively gowned in blue and
wore a corsage of gardenias.
Immediately following the ceremony,
a wedding breakfast was served
at the Samovar. Covers were laid
for 20 guests at the bride's table,
which was covered with an Irish linen
cloth and centered with the wedding
cake.
A reception was held at the home
of the bride in ' t h e afternoon from
2 until 4 o'clock. The tea table was
laid with an Irish linen filet cloth,
centered with a huge bouquet of
yellow roses and pom poms, flanked
on either side with yellow tapers in
silver holders.
Mr. and Mrs. Skimin left by motor
for New York City and the East. The
bride traveled in an olive green crepe
dress, with brown accessories, and
green cloth sport coat with fox trim.
Out-of-town guests were present
from Buffalo, Alexander, Kenmore
and Syracuse.
The following pre-nuptials were
held for the bride: A.O.H. Auxiliary
entertained at a bridge party and
blanket shower; Mrs. Edgar O'Donnell
and Esther Riordan entertained at a
variety shower and bridge party;
Mary Gorman was hostess at a crystal
shower and bridge supper.
Mr. and Mrs. Skimin were also entertained
at a dinner given by the
Adult Education faculty of Trott Vo-
at which they were
presented with a beautiful solid oak
breakfast set.
Mrs. Skimin will reside at 1022 1-2
Niagara street.
