NORTH TONAWANDA — Jane L. Selover (nee Schmidt), age 91, of North Tonawanda, October 15, 2012. Born in Buffalo, Jane had been a resident of North Tonawanda most of her life. She worked at a local aircraft plant as a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII and settled into life as a mother and homemaker at the end of the war. After her husband Edward's death, she worked at Ames Department Store and then at the Sugar Kake Cookie Factory in Tonawanda. Upon her retirement, she began volunteering as a foster grandmother with the Niagara County BOCES Head Start Program, working with pre-school children in the North Tonawanda schools. It was Jane's volunteer work as a foster grandmother that she most thoroughly enjoyed and remembered fondly for the rest of her life. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa R.C. Church and the former St. Joseph's R.C. Church. She also enjoyed bowling and ceramics.
She was the wife of the late Edward Selover. Beloved mother of David (Beverly) Selover of Forest, OH; Linda (Barry) Becker of North Tonawanda; and Robert (Carol) Selover of Littleton, CO. Grandmother of Michelle, Michael, Renee, Amy, Tim, Matt, Lindsey and Matthew; great-grandmother of eight great-grandchildren. Sister of Paul (late Bessy) Schmidt and the late Robert, Raymond, Francis and Howard.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St., at Ward Rd., in North Tonawanda on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 9:30 AM from Our Lady of Czestochowa R.C. Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Niagara County BOCES Head Start Program.
